I found the most perfect one but it’s only 14 inches. It seems kind of small but maybe that was a common size back then, I don’t even remember.

(Pic is something random I pulled off Google. Not the actual TV)

If you play at a desk or table, totally. I do, so I use one of those.

>but maybe that was a common size back then
it's roughly the size of a monitor on the smaller end of the spectrum. what they used in computer labs, mostly in schools.
also, how old are you?

If you use it as a PC monitor yes.
>>
It was a common size for kitchen TVs and TVs in children's bedrooms.

I have 3 CRTs, two are from the late 80's & they all work. Do these fucking things just have unlimited life expectancy as long as you don't store them in a damp basement for a decade?

CRTs die out of physical damage, capacitors going to shit, or using the tube too much.
If you display the same picture for too long you get burn in, if you use em every day the whole day, the picture gets darker and darker.
>>
Why don't we get more ""retro monitors""? Nothing fancy, just something 4:3 with CRT shape and maybe builtin shaders. Or without shaders. Even 4:3 is not available brand new anymore....well except pic related but it's expensive.

The perfect size.

17" was kind of the standard size for a CRT monitor, 19" being a big one.
That being said, 14 is fine to play retro games on, you'd only notice the smaller screen holding you back with more modern, graphically intensive games (think half life 1 and so).

34 but the CRT era is kind of a blur.

What if use it as just a TV in a bedroom?

Yeah, my grandma had one of those 14" Zeniths in her kitchen, mounted under the cabinet. Thing was indestructible and always had Wheel of Fortune playing on it. Also saw a ton of those in kids' rooms with built-in VHS players. People forget not every CRT needed to be a 32" Trinitron monster - those little guys had their place and still look great for retro stuff in a cozy setup.

I know CRTs are objectively better, but are they basically a ticking time bomb since they’ll eventually die? I can’t help but wonder if we should just settle for LCDs and use something like a Mister to fix input lag and other issues.

Plus, even back in the 80s and 90s we had LCD screens on the Game Boy, GBA, and so on. Using a CRT is incredible but it also feels like clinging to what’s left of the past.

Shit motion quality
>>
>>719414449
No, it wasn't. Never gamed on anything less than 19" back in the day.
>>
That's fucking tiny. Don't bother if it's under 20".

Small monitors are good for high scores.
Your eyes either don't have to move or take less time to scan across the screen.
