An embarrassing number of Morrowind fans are just really attached to the weird lore/aesthetic. I actually love that aesthetic but it's not at all unique to Morrowind. Earth tones, ancient civilizations, primitives mixed with steam punk, and existential lore was all very common at the turn-of-the-millennium. Planescape Torment, Fallout, and Riven all had a similar vibe. Even IPs as mainstream as Riddick and Bionicle leaned into it. This was an era of fantasy conceived by creatives more influenced by the sci-fi zeitgeist of the 70s and 80s than medieval folklore (right before the LOTR movies revitalized the latter).

In terms of game design, the really unique thing about Morrowind is that it's a fully 3D physics environment that runs on a database-like backend which is why pretty much everything is persistent and interactable. There aren't a lot of 3D "action" games that behave like that, usually it's more of a strategy game or management sim thing. In that sense, what is the true Morrowind successor? It's fucking Skyrim and Bethesda Games in general which inherit the same game architecture.

I think a lot of Morrowind fans missed or don't appreciate the game engineering under the hood. What they really want is something more like a Riven successor--weird lore, intriguing mystery that doesn't hold the player's hand--but with some basic real-time action gameplay on top. But since Riven was much less popular than Morrowind (on account of lacking that real-time action component), they don't know to ask for this.

You guys clearly don't know enough about how autistic this guy is. It's also his full-time job because he makes all his money off YouTube.

I just fucking realized this is the same nigger who ported Halo weapons and game modes into Dark Souls. There is a non-zero percent chance he'll actually get it done, huh.

please be advised the video is hype and advertising PRIMARILY to call attention to the things he can't do and needs help with and there's no guarantee those things can come to fruition

even in its current state though it's good for a "look at this neat thing I made" video
