Notice that the best parts of Heavensward, is going around the Hinterlands with the Batman, Robin and the dragon whore, picking up sticks. The best parts of ShB are Emet and Ardbert.It's not about job changes and content, because that's easily modifiable patch to patch. What matters primarily is character interaction.

In 2025, I don't think the subscription is worth it. For XIV AND WoW.Gachas pump out twice as much content at half the patch rate of XIV, and even the free to play MMOs are on par with XIV.I think there was a point in 2017 where the sub model was worthwhile to filter out bad f2p practices, but it doesn't hold now.

What WoW does is that every old expansion until and up to Dragonflight is basically equivalent for leveling a character because of auto scaling. This is trash and has a fuckton of problems. FFXIV story campaign is linear. Even if you were to split and rescale it into parallel segments it doesn't matter because MSQ gameplay is trash and non-existent and in every case you're better off leveling the way you do now which is with dungeons, either with friends or via trusts. And if the total speed is a concern then they're better off rescaling dungeon exp below 100 than doing weird expansion rescaling because for WoW it created an endless amount of pain and problems including fucking actual new players in the ass due to scaling mismatch.

They're too obsessed with it, and players hate even slight deviation: the desynced 1/2 during FRU was obnoxious because they've so heavily tied their game to the fight timeline. Unless they break the aggressive dedication to burst, the timeline will never go away.
