on top of general greed, the reason modern games are so utterly monetized in every way is because they have so many mouths to feed. decades of mismanagement have resulted in a completely bloated company. I don't think it's even possible for a company like activision to charge $20 for a AAA game and I don't think it's possible for them to also trim the fat because the bureaucracy is what defines a company of that size. no-one is going to propose to fire themselves or their department. A bureaucracy can only expand so the state of things can only ever get worse or implode.

Not everyone like these sorts of games. I found the first game boring and tedious. I'd rather play that Cronos game as it looks like a Resident Evil/Dead Space/Silent Hill/Evil Within type game and I enjoy those. And I think Dying Light 3 and Silent Hill F are out soon as well. All of those are much more appealing to me than Hollow Knight 2.

Metroidvania games should not be long games. I ahted this game but I loved games like Castlevania SOTN and Aria and Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait or ruin and Super Metroid and Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion. Modern Metroidvania games are all too long and boring. Even Metroid Dread was too long and boring.
