It was the first game with the entire party on the field and the first character with field models not being SD. The junction system looks complex if you ignore the tutorials or the automatic junctioning that works for the bulk of the game. A lot of people are dumb and get side tracked by the draw mechanic, thinking you need to stockpile spells in battle ad nauseum. It definitely can overwhelm people, especially the bottom feeders that typically play JRPGs and expect "select awesome to awesome."

>>719433319The only things the junction system really needs is for the menus to have something like the materia/crystal icons from 7/9 to not feel like you're editing a spreadsheet and for the game to more clearly make you understand that if you're going to draw you need a high magic stat on the character or to use alternatives otherwise.Though it should still not be done willy-nilly, drawing isn't that big of a deal if you're drawing 9 spells with three characters, but you're never going to get that if you don't really understand that the magic stat scales your draw rate.
