I bought some GameCube games from Facebook Marketplace and this disc was in one of the game cases. Does anyone know what this is? I put the disc in my GameCube but it didn't recognise it.

Looks like a development disc of Rayman Revolution. That game never came out on the GameCube. You should look into someone that can help you dump that. Maybe /hbg/ over on /vg/?
>>

Ebay has a dev kit but it costs €5600

on the off chance it's real, dump that shit
>>
>>719439082
You should mail it back to Ubisoft.
>>
this is obviously fake but if it weren't you could sell it on ebay for a chunk of change.
putting the pen you wrote with next to the disc would be good bait if this was something like gamefaqs where people took this lazy of bait.

Contact Hard4Games. He's all about preserving Nintendo prototypes

>>719440432
It's RNG since discs were made by different companies and they all vary in quality. Like how burned Sony discs held up better than burned Memorex discs.
>>
>>719440468
Or give to the people at didyouknowgaming
They'd probably pay OP for the disc

>>719440401
Yeah, you missed out. They were just e-waste you could fish from a dumpster behind NOA's HQ when they did their yearly spring cleaning for awhile.

Guess they stopped doing that.

all discs will get rot and wont last forever. Oxygen breaks down cds and chemicals on the disc. Although some disc get it slower or faster depending on how they were made.

>Do all games get disc rot or is it just caused by games being left in hot areas?
I worked in a used game store for years and have seen thousands and thousands of discs from every major console. The only time I ever saw something like "disc rot" was a couple times with old saturn games inside those third party sleeve cases that were left in storage sheds for years with no climate control and the labels basically started to disintegrate. The other discs i've seen from the same era are fine as long as they were taken care of.
People say the same shit about baseball cards "hurr durr they will disintegrate after a couple decades so you might as well unload them now" meanwhile people have pallets from the 60s that look pristine. Common tactic to get people to sell cheap. Just don't store your shit in wet sheds.
>>
>>719439337
There a youtube channel called Hard4Games that can dump shit like this. If this is a real post, you might contact them to see what is actually on the disc.
>>
>>719441694
disc rot does not mean the disc literally rotting. Just that it can not be read anymore.
>>
>>719439082
I'd reach out to people within the Gamecube and Wii hacking scene to see if there is a way to dump it with regular commercial hardware. If not, I'd reach out to one of many dedicated preservation groups to see if they can dump it for you.
>>
>>719441860
>disc rot does not mean the disc literally rotting. Just that it can not be read anymore.
Can't say i've ever seen that, we were required to test all our shit and the only games that didn't read were ones that had visible damage, you can hold them in front a light to see if there are any pinholes under the label (which is where the data is written to).
I never even heard heard the term "disc rot" until the last few years where people are suddenly claiming it is everywhere. Honestly seems like corporate fear mongering to push people to all digital.
>>
>>719442225
this
t. still have shitty bootleg CDs from the early 2000s that still work
>>719439082
hope you manage to dump the disc instead of sending it to some youtubers
>>
>>719442225
even a plastic bottle left for 50 years will show breakage and most people think plastic as lasting forever. Its still to early but cd failure will become common in 20 years, and I mean the older cds from 90’s and early 00’s
>>
>>719442586
found one in a trashcan that looked like it had been literally burnt and it still worked
>>
>>719439082
Another person that might be worth reaching out to is Modern Vintage Gamer. He's helped with dumping prototypes, and has said that even if he himself doesn't have the knowledge/equipment he will point you to someone that does.
Make sure the dump is shared publicly. Some shitty "collectors" will only circulate dumps privately for clout and bragging rights.
>>
>>719442658

This is an AI-generated image.

Look at the text on the disc, and how it appears gloopy and blurred around the edges. This is particularly noticeable on the "Nintendo" logo on the left side, which is so warped it looks nothing like an actual legitimate Nintendo logo.

OP should kill himself for having posted this slop.
>>
I need to start dumping my Dreamcast shit here soon.

I got some rare white promo disc versions of games, I am not sure if they're the same as the retail versions.

It's a haunted game based on a knock off of Raymane. Prepare for bloody eyes, monochrome graphics, increasing noise with every level until you finish the game and find out your family is dead. Police arrests you, you claim innocence but your fingerprints and blood are all around the crime scene.
So, a typical fare for games of that time.

Reminder that you can help preservation by submitting dump metadata to Redump (optical media) and No-Intro (cartridges and digital downloads, including DRM-free PC releases).
https://dumping.guide/
http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title=Dumping_Guides

For the record, this infograph (back from 2022) is not about missing official releases for those consoles. All of them were dumped. It's meant to indicate how many got a single dump, and how many got 2 or more.

>what drives do I need to dump CD games?
http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title=Optical_Disc_Drive_Compatibility:_CD
For PS2 and PC DVD games, any DVD drive will work fine.
>why are verifications important?
>Verifications are vital in verifying that the information in the database is accurate, and that a dump is reproduceable by another person using the same tools and methods. An existing dump could be erroneous due to a variety of factors, including user error, hardware and software issues, and more. Furthermore, even when someone is doing everything correctly and has adequate software and hardware, there is a chance that their dump could be incorrect, due to the way data sectors on a disc are read and validated (especially Compact Discs). In most cases, the data will be read and verified successfully, but the process of reading data is not infallible, so there are times when a second dump of the same disc could provide differing information. Verifications help to identify and correct some of these issues.

The software used for this purposes is MPF (Windows-only), which serves as a frontend for DIC and Redumper (and Aaru too).
https://github.com/SabreTools/MPF/releases/latest
You can also use their standalone versions (ALSO available for Mac and Linux):

>>
just in case this OP isn't a lying faggot
I second the posts saying to send it to that youtuber hard4games, not because I particularly like him, but because he's more likely to actually dump the content and share it than a random collector who happens to own a dev kit. He'll do it because it's content, chumps like me get to download the disc and try it, he gets updoots, OP will probably get way more money than he spent on it. Everyone wins
