>buy game called “Deadly Premonition” with this cover art
>assume it’s a gritty hardcore resident evil style
>wacky mario world ripoff music plays while the wacky main character eats a lollipop and talks about the lack of DVD special features on 80s movies
no wonder this game was so polarizing

Western box art strikes again.
>>
>>719444508
Even better. The game initially ahd very little actual combat other than "the killer" so they added in zombies. There's no in-game explanation what they are or where they come from. There should be like 80 missing people by the end of the game.
>>
>>719444508
I haven't played the game but I still know that the last point isn't exactly hyperbolic or a joke, then again, it's a Hidetaka ''Sweary'' Suehiro game, it was always going to be polarizing.

Never watched twin peaks, are these games anything like it?
>>

Ah, yes, the Destructoid logo really brings it all together.
>>
>>719446592
They're basically just ripping off Twin Peaks which isn't a bad thing because Twin Peaks is great.
>>
Man, talking to your head about random shit while driving through americana shitholes in the rain is so comfy, I wonder why no game had ripped this shit off...
And the NPC schedules are badass too. You can see them do shit around town, you can spy on them through their windows... Badass gimmicks for a dogshit videogame.

PC version may as well not exist. Either buy the Xbox version, emulate the Switch version, or emulate either PS3 DC or PS3 Red Seeds Profile. Even then there's no real reason to emulate the DC version unless you really have to have the three extra suits, the house, and like two or three small cutscenes you can live without since the gameplay changes just set the game to Easy difficulty.

Me too. Old school SBPF will never be topped, and there's never been a channel that captures that same feeling, and there likely never will be ever again. The fact that they're more or less indirectly responsible for series like Yakuza catching on in the West and Deadly Premonition getting a sequel is insane to think about. Not to mention how many careers they jumpstarted.

Always wondered how much of Metal Wolf Chaos's relevance was owed to them.

In a sea of streamers pandering to the latest popular thing they stood out just by being a friend group that was genuinely passionate about niche genres and weird-ass cult classics. I'll still watch Woolie's channel every now and then, now that he's the only one soldiering on with the feel of classic LPs, but I'll always have nostalgia for the old stuff.

I mean York will eat whatever random foodstuffs you find out in the field. Lollipops among them.
>>
>>719452229
Probably most of it. The fact that it got a remaster could likely be attributed to them, too. There really is no channel that just does the group of friends that are passionate about niche titles and seem to genuinely know their shit (more or less) when it comes to weird, obscure things. I mean, hell, this was back during a time when much of what was coming out of Japan was still in that same category, and it was before a time where western releases were being brushed with a fine-tooth comb to prevent any of that anime weirdness from being apparent. Not that they really even make those style of games anymore. It wasn't even that long ago, but era is so wildly different than what we have today. If it weren't for them, I would have never gone back and beaten Wonderful 101. Their appreciation of those style of games made me appreciate them in turn. Same with Monster Hunter.
>>
>>719452229
i really can't watch any of them anymore.

they were absolutely perfect together, and now that they aren't friends anymore(i seriously struggle to call what Woolie and Pat have now to be friendship desu, more partnership than anything) it feels like they're all washed out and aren't neither as funny or as interesting to listen to as they were before.
>>
>>719452185
There were tons of threads about it here when it released, and it gets brought up whenever a Deadly Premonition thread comes up.
>>
>>719452770
Pretty much. I also find it impossible to go back and watch their older videos. Everything ended on such a sour note that it ruined the stuff they made prior. Like when you play a shitty sequel to a video game you liked, so it just ruins your entire perception of the series.
>>
>>719452770
It's a real shame that it seems that Pat is now better friends with that aids golem from cyberpunk than he is with anyone from the old channel
On the plus side I have enjoyed the many years without ever having to see or hear about Liam

I still like tidbits from their podcast and the like, but Woolie's the only one I'd watch now because I don't get much out of solo streamers monologuing to themselves.

I think they need someone to bounce off of. And Hell, I like Reggie.

Nobody has ever though the game has good combat gameplay.

The game wasn't even supposed to have combat. Apparently the publisher came along partway through development and told them it looked like they were making a movie and not a game and ordered them to put some gameplay in it. They quickly whipped up some shitty gameplay just so they could tell the publisher it had some.

Yeah, they did. But unfortunately that time has passed, and DingDong really went off the deep end. Zach, Lyle, and Tomar really don't fit that same dynamic at all. Cory and Dave are at least game devs and old Newgrounders so they can relate to things, but the early days of OneyPlays were a lot more fun because you'd learn about random facts about niche games and cartoons.

A his games suck. They are just rip off, and bad ones.

Spyficition, D4 deadly premonition 2, all suck.
Even auteurs like Suda have at least 2 good games.
Sweary has one and even that is questionable. Starting to think people pretend to like it just to fit in.

>>
>>719460604
I'm "fine" with the Director's Cut changes, unless you mean the Switch version is worse than the original in some other way. If emulating the PS3 version actually lets me boost the framerate to something more stable I may just go that route instead.
