That's not to say that these comments from former developers/designers can't be useful, because they absolutely can be. But it's important to keep in mind that people are not infallible, memories are flawed, and not every idea they had that didn't make it into the final product should be considered good or valid by default. Fans need to be more critical of this kind of thing. "Word of God" isn't an excuse to turn your brain off and not believe your lying eyes.
