I don't give a fuck about any of that, it's gay, vain and the kind of people who make video essays about video games are losers.

why are certain people cursed to have 0 willpower and struggle to do basic tasks
I genuinely feel like I could have been a millionaire by 25 with the ideas I have (that then get made by someone else and makes them a millionaire) but I struggle to do laundry and wash dishes

The closest I got is this: I translated a couple of games into my language. My translations are considered good by both players and journalists. One person (that I'm aware of) wrote a graduation work for translation studies about one of my translations.
Well, that's small in comparison to what you said, but I'll just mention that I don't really feel anything about it, so if it was something 100 times bigger, not much would change.

you know all the trite things people say like "anyone can code" or "just believe in urself"? they're all true, you just have to open your mind to the idea that you're going to make it. failure to do so will result in more bitching and moaning without even having tried.
get to learning, son.
>>
>>719460897
Did you have anything fucked up happen to you in life that you never really dealt with? Unresolved issues in your mind are like random scrap getting jammed between gears; nothing works right until you remove it.
>>
a lot of people get into the hobby for the wrong reason. game developers are not artists, they are not rock stars. successful indie developers aren't touring the world getting laid and collecting laurels, they are alienated autists with a fanbase of mentally ill losers.
>>
>>719461690
almost sadly it was pretty much all little stuff that contributed to it. I'm mostly well-adjusted now but it took a while to get here. But there was no big single event that messed me up. Dad left sure but only a handful of yelling fits between my mom and grandparents. Bullied at school but honestly only a few years cus I got tall. Teachers would treat me different cus I wouldn't do normal work but I did good on tests. Got sent to special ed but whatever, I ended up relaxing in the retard closet most days. Just a bunch of little things, nothing huge.

Modern life is just too exhausting. Thirty or so years ago you could have a part time job at a diner and support a mortgage for a small home. Now even six figures can barely keep you afloat in most parts of the world, and said jobs tend to be very stressful. If you even get them, which most people can't, so we're stuck living in apartments with four other people sharing rent, some of which have to work multiple jobs.
I'm getting mentally exhausted just coming to terms with all this, and accepting that it's not going to get any better, at least not in my lifetime. I wanted to make video games, but I need to work two jobs just to keep the lights on and I simply don't have the energy to do much of anything with my extremely limited free time without sacrificing sleep. I barely even talk to friends and family anymore because work work work work work it's all so tiring I can't wait to go to sleep and not wake up so I can be the first dev to release a game from the afterlife.

Why even make a game if you're not going to bother putting any effort? Seriously, i just used Civitai to make some porn, and despite it looking "good", i just couldn't get it up, where's the passion, might as well get an actual job if you won't bother putting any creativity in a creative endeavor

That's just the standard autism experience. Executive dysfunction is part and parcel with retard disease (developmental disorders) and the tiniest little bit of trauma exacerbates it like 10,000%. C'est la vie.
>>

It's not my job, and it didn't. Last time I translated a game was 9-10 months ago, and by the year's end I'll be doing another one.
Machine translations into English may be okay sometimes, but my language is much too complicated.

Most people like that grew as spoiled kids who never had to do shit to get rewarded and have trouble dealing with failure as a result, if you're an adult the only way to fix this is too challenge yourself so you get used to failing BUT learning so you can be less of a nihilist bitch who thinks that just because he'll die someday it means he doesn't have to have any motivation or goal

To me the creativity is in the writing and directing, and it doesn’t matter to me if I’m directing people or bots.
Anti-AI is just elitism at the end of the day. Hideo Kojima hasn’t make a 3D model in his life either, but for him it’s ok because he can pay people to do it.
I can’t afford that so I pay the machine to do it. Same thing.

>>
>>719467293
This, didn't one of the devs behind the original Fallout say this more or less? You see a lot of successful game "ideas guys" in the industry but most of those fags had to work their ass off to get where they are now, and even then being a good ideas guy is unironically harder than what most fags think, it's not simple "imagine Halo but medival lol" shit, you actually have to make a concise concept with actual game design and philosophy, from simple shit like menus to the actual gameplay
>>
>>719467462
There's a huge, huge difference between "idea guy" and "idea guy with money".

that'S dangerous

ive been daydreaming my entire life and now i am 30 year old khv NEET who still does nothing but just mindlessly browsing the internet while imagining things in my head every single day

anythign else is circlejerky garbage

Yes, Timothy Cain did say that, although in a more elaborate manner. You can find the video on his YT channel.

Star small and make mods for games with good modding tools. Shit like (Literally any Doom-Engine based game), (Literally any Source Engine game), or (Any Nintendo game that's been decompiled).

I make Ring Racers maps, personally. It's fun, and people like them. If you make something that sucks ass you can even full-send the joke and lean into how badly you fucked up and see how far you can push it.
>>
>>719467703
>Star small
This is the most simple and effective tip ever, yet i have seen time and time again countless indie devs trying to make their first game their dream game who get their dreams crushed when they realize they lack the experience, budget, and staff to make it work

Are you anxious in anyway, anon? If so, use that. Angle fear pushing you into doing things. Don't worry about anything beyond what you're doing on the day.
The enemy is apathy and nothing else. If desire won't get you into motion, get angry, get sad, get frustrated. Something will.

You end up making a game, when not busy trying to survive, spending hundreds of hours of your free time, then decide it's a good idea to release it in EA so you can get some feedback and hopefully funds to continue working on it without thinking about an hero every day, get 0 views or sales which bolsters the idea that it's shit and you're a fraud. Trying is the first step towards failure.

You are out of your mind, bro. You know you can buy Risk of Rain 2 for less right now? If you want feedback on a game that looks like that, price is out of the question.
>>
>>719474804
Now compare that game with this.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3716600/Mage_Arena/
Why did that succeed and the other fail? Both are early access multiplayer games.
>>
>>719475363
>A co-op PvP experience about using your voice to cast spells
neat gimmick
actual creatures and worlds instead of shapes on top of a tiny cube in the void
lower price
>>
>>719475190
It doesn't play like risk of rain 2, and it's a new experience either way, it's more like rabbit and steel, which is more expensive.

>>719475363
I don't know. Likely much better marketing, good timing, voice gimmick, probably more fun with friends, price, luck?
>>
>>719474804
Every day I check every single game released on Steam in the last 24 hours. At least a quick look, more if it's something interesting to me personally.
And one thing I noticed and don't understand about first games released by new devs is this: why don't you get someone to write a fucking review. Since you're a dev, you know that you need to reach 10 reviews as fast as possible, otherwise your game remains pretty much invisible on Steam.
If you don't have friends who could do that for you, go around Steam and look at reviews. Sometimes you'll find people with like 500, 1000, 3000 reviews. Talk to them, give them a key, ask them to try playing and write something.
I often end up buying games that I'd normally leave for later and get on a sale, because I'm sorry for the devs. There are games on Steam that have exactly 1 review, written by me, months after the release. I really don't understand. Have someone write a couple of reviews, this shouldn't be that hard.
