what the FUCK happened to MMOs?
>>
I've never heard of any of these bands.
>>

GW1 isnt even a mmo. Its a online rpg and i wish we got more of those.
>>

Cost too much to develop, constantly competing with existing games that have had decades to stretch their legs and flesh their features out, the zoomers aren't aging up into playing them like millennials did and the boomer market is becoming too decrepit to keep playing and so the western market is shrinking while the chinese market is very touchy and few western games ever break into it
>>
>>719466878
They all got casualised and woke.
There are still a couple of gems but we're not telling you what they are cuz we dont want you casualfags shitting them up.
We'd rather have a small, based community than some fuckhuge game full of normalfags.
>>
Modern players want a MMO where everything is already solved and they can do everything solo, which is pretty much incompatible with the genre.
>>
>>719466878
WoW brought in the unwashed masses of casual gamers
Every mmo decided it needed to chase this market to be successful
The casual market moved on
MMOs continue to chase this market to their deaths.
Even WoW itself fell victim to this.
>>
dude has been non-stop spamming this all weekend
i have no idea why mods are leaving it up

>and they can do everything solo
This is why MMOs stopped being the #1 genre really.

>Gen X and Millennials are too busy with wives, kids, 2 jobs etc to sink more than 2-3 hours a week solo
>Zoomers and Alphies dont find "being online with other people" special or novel enough to care about being in a game with other people
>all are too broke in this economy to sink $15-25/mo into a genre where devs actively shittify the game year after year for no reason
>>

Mmos are the original live service games. It served as the blueprint of monetization of other games.
>>

what's the difference
>>
>>719468265

it's more akin to diablo or phantasy star online where the actual gameplay is limited to 4-8 players even if the chat lobbies have dozens of players
>>
>>719467526
this is what happens when you have literal decades of faggots pretending like raiding kills mmos purely because they are all anti social faggot retards that can't into talking to people.
>>
>>719467526
>all are too broke in this economy
but they keep sinking $9000s into gachas and dlcs, makes sense
>>
>>719467526
Bigger problem is MMO features become ubiquitous.
>>
>>719466878
The logical conclusion.
>>
>>719466878
They didn't evolve at all since 2004's WoW
If anything they fucking devolved
I don't know how most of them are clunkier now but they just are
>>
>>719466878
Ironing out of all the rough parts that gave them character. Turns out you can't really have instant gratification 24/7 and expect to keep a long term player base.
>>
>>719466878
Bar has to be very low if SWTOR is A tier.
>>
There wasn't anything else to play at the time. It's not like Blizzard deserved any of that traffic to begin with.
>>
People realized they're all scams
>>
>>719466878
A large part is them pandering to casuals and retards, or people that don't even like video games to begin with.
The rise of social media also killed them.
>>
>>719470740
Archeage was truly an evolution for the genre...until it released and the p2w got added.
BDO was supposed to be an evolution as well but just turned into a mobile game.
>>
>>719470881
tor has a lot of good things but none of them are MMO related.
>>
>>719466878

Put it in the S ranking

>A large part is them pandering to casuals
Wrong. It's the opposite. Pandering to casuals is how we got vanilla WoW, the best mmorpg of all time. It's pandering to the 1% raidlogging poopsockers that ruined everything. The only fun way to play an MMO is leveling/questing, collecting mounts and shit, and running dungeons with randos/friends. They need to go back to pandering to casuals so these games will actually attract a playerbase and not just the same terminally online psychopaths who've been playing for 20 years.
