Why did it flop so badly?Do people not care about Doom slop anymore?
I have sl*p buzzword fatigue
>>719469326I like the DOOM series but I still haven't bought this one. Why? Because it hasn't been long enough since Eternal released and I don't like the superhero mythical demi-god slayer. He should be a soldier again. A man going against Demons and coming out victorious. Now they added all this narrative garbage and removed the only part the original needed to be compelling. This change is similar to how 80s action men were replaced by comic book superheros in the movies.
this is gayshould've made quake instead
>>719470517>Enjoys Doom slop
this is straightshouldn't have made rage again
>>719469326I mean, why spend 70 plus tax for one game when you can get gamepass for 20 bucks and still have like 3 weeks of free games left once you beat doom. I got one month free with a controller I bought so I literally played dark ages for free and I still want my money back because it was so forgettable and mid
Because with each new game Doom series went further and further from original premise (Apart from Doom 64 and Doom3):Sci-Fi Action Horror
>>719469326It's an idea for over the top expansion but not for the sequel
>>719470945>horrorLmao, not even Doom 3 pulled off horror.
>>719469326Because they went the opposite way of Eternal.Eternal was fast and had you jumping around and styling on everyone. This one is slow and heavy.Mandatory RT didnt help.
It was just a boring game The shield and the weapons weren't interesting to use
>>719469326You are not going to get an accurate answer from this board, the shitskins of /v/ have a hilarious personal grudge against Doom because they insisted Eternal would flop and it didn't, and third world untermensch literally go insane when they are proven wrong.
It was just an amazing gameThe shield and weapons were interesting to use
>>719469326People wanted a sequel to Doom Eternal. They did not want a weird Painkiller clone that looks nothing like Doom 2016/Eternal.I'm certain they added the classic Doomguy face at the bottom of the screen, like in the first two games, just to remind players that this is a Doom game (in name only).
>>719469326The Goy Passers are probably still paying for it so they won.
>>719471578oh?
>>719471658Slop
>>719469326>fantasy game>cover has a gunmaybe guys who like fantasy want to hit things with swords and magic
>>719471581Eternal wasn't a doom game either
>>719470592Yep it kinda looked like a quake project from the first tease and then we found out it's doom again. What a disappointment
>>719470945retard, doom was never scary
>>719471774I'm sure the board of gacha and VN slurpers knows about Doom.
>>719471658Yes anon, playing on the easiest difficulty and using the max parry window option will make most games look bad. Please do attempt a semblance of genuine criticism next time or I'll banish you to the transmasc doom wads
>>719471658/v/'s skill in vidya is falling to IGN reviewer tier
>>719469326I found Doom 2016 pretty mediocre, Doom Eternal was worse. So I didn't even bother with this one.I also just don't like the Doomslayer. Doomguy was more interesting as a human.Doomguy is just a God who nerfs himself so he can have fun fights.
>>719470945this is actually one of the shittiest opinions I have ever read, calling doom horrorthis board is actually a goldmine for the most retarded takes I have ever seen holy shit lmao
>>7194693261. forced raytracing. a large part of the PC userbase still has a GTX16502. cost. 80 euros for this? it's a linear singleplayer campaign that takes like 10h to beat3. denuvo4. people have honestly had doom fatigue ever since the Eternal DLC part 25. public opinion turned against ID after Mick Gordon stopped working with them
>>719471983>people have honestly had doom fatigue ever since the Eternal DLC part 2False, it's precisely not resembling Eternal why it failed.
>>719471847>easiest difficultyIt's literally nightmare.>the max parry window optionIt's the shortest possible window.
>>719472018it's not about the gameplay loop. the nuDoom emphasis on lore and story and marvelization reached its absolute peak in The Ancient Gods DLC part 2. if you were online when that released, you remember that it was like seeing a dam burst and the flood arrive, people got fed up with the retardation of nuDoom's storyTDA came out after that, when people no longer had this innate respect for nuDoom being a serious thing
Mick Gordon won. Marty Stratton lost.
>>719472118>literally nightmareProof?>it's the shortest possible parry windowAnon, I'm not sure if you're aware or not, but that gif was sped up. You can visually see when parrying right side swings the length between bringing up the shield and the sword actually connecting. I'm sorry, but you're getting sent to play Darktran TC
>>719469326I haven't played the game, but from what I've seen from the trailers: the shield mechanics look gimmicky, you can't jump, the red and green attack mechanic is looks like a shit mechanic, the characters and cutscenes are written badly. But the most important reason why I haven't bought the game yet is because it's fucking OVERPRICED, it's only worth HALF its price. Jesus christ what were they thinking pricing a boomer shooter at 80 bucks? There are other boomer shooters at 2/8 and even 1/8 of its price that are way better in its genre than what they have to offer.
>>719472603It's not a boomer shooter, it plays nothing like old FPS games.Cultic is a boomer shooter.
>>719469326I can only assume the people now in charge of Doom have absolutely no idea what its appeal is. Doom Eternal was awful and the direction this took with standing and parrying did absolutely nothing make me think otherwise.
>>719469326I'll say I find it a bit weird how this board defended Eternal's Marauder enemy and claimed it "filtered plebs" because of the parrying and positioning, or whatever. Now those same people shit on TDA for being too different from Eternal, not realizing the combat flaw of TDA is based almost entirely on fighting the Marauder. From me, TDA is too expensive for what it is. A decent but nothing special FPS game of a dozen hours with no replayability, that costs 80 bucks. WTF?
>>719472758It's a boomer shooter anon, it's not as good as the others in the genre and it has lot of garbage added on mechanics, but it's in the genre nonetheless.
>>719473224You can't just call anything that isn't call of duty a boomer shooter
>>719472350>but that gif was sped upOh dear. So you aren't even aware you can slide the game to 150% speed? And you're telling me how the game works.
>>719470945doom3 is a pathetic hl2 clone
Too pricy for a game that crashed on me twice within the first 30 minutes
If you have more than 5 weapons that you can switch to, kill more than a hundred enemies regularly in a level, can dodge projectiles, move fast, then it's a boomer shooter.
>>719473705the shortest parry windows is still like 2 seconds wtf are talking?
>>719469326I think the real reason is quite simple, it just doesn't look cool. Just looking at that cover with that font and the doom guy with a cape and a shield, there's just something about it that reminds me of the most mediocre 7th gen era games. It doesn't feel like a proper sequel but rather like a cheaply made spin-off
>>719473705Ah jeez, I understand your mistake in assuming that it would be a case of 150% speed since you're not familiar with how the options function so I won't hold it against you. The enemy location indicator, the red signal that appears when parrying, isn't influenced by the game speed. Were it sped up like you mistook it for, it'd linger longer than what is shown. Since the gif was what was sped up though, it disappears faster. I'll let you off easy by making you play Administration Center this time
>>719473924Yes. The whole point of that webm is that at 150% game speed with the difficulty sliders set positions that make the game as hard as possible it's still easy to parry because the window is too generous. It becomes a chore to fight enemies like the cyberdemon because they hitscan you at range and all you can do is block until the gauge is broken so you have to close distance immediately and play the clang clang clang game.
It runs like shit.>inb4 get better hardwareI will, if the games would actually look better than 5 years ago
>>719469326The average time played on game pass is probably like 1 hour as well. Really, making an entry in a series as well-known as Doom and only being able to say that 2.2m players tried the game for free while 800k actually bought it is pathetic.
>>719470602>zoomer has a limited vocabulary due to his upbringing of ebonics
>>719474151>The enemy location indicator, the red signal that appears when parrying, isn't influenced by the game speedIt is when you have a game mod which removes the parry slowdown effect and impacts that directly as well. I had to wait for months to properly implement the slowdown removal.
>>719469326They wrote a script and then built the entire game around that, instead of building a fun game and coming up with a plot later. Doomguy doesn't do glorykills because the devs thought they were a fun idea or they found a cool new tech they could use for it, the glorykill system is only in the game because the writer said that's something the Doomguy does.As the nu-Doom series progressed they focused more and more on the plot and gameplay became even more of an afterthought
Its actually not a meme shitpost, they actually had 8 sections of dragon/robot slop (4 robot, 4 dragon). Might be the biggest waste of resources by percentage of the total game, of any game this past decade.Only 2 real bosses, Fat Makyr, and First devilman. The old one is a QTE sequence, and witch + makyr is a dark souls 2 copy paste fight that is less difficult than then previous fight by 2 times. And because there are so few bosses, you actually spend 5 levels without any new enemy types introduced, leading to fatigue and boredom. This is truly a deep discount game at heart, like 40 dollars max.
>>719474342Ah, my mistake then. Wasn't aware that a mod was being used. Apologies for my condescending responses, carry on anon
>>719472162this is it for me, I thought in 2016 it was a funny joke that the game was trying to tell me a story and the doom guy could not give less of a shit Turns out the devs were 100% serious and thought everyone loved their stupid fucking "lore"I remember starting eternal and in the opening just sitting there and thinking "aw fuck no one who made this game understood why 2016 was good"
I am the target market who brought all other doom games and didn’t buy this one. I knew from the trailers I didn’t want it. Doom is fast high volume all out attack. Adding a shield, blocking, long gay cut scenes with a guaranteed slop story, tedious no action turret and mech sections. It all just feels like it’s getting in the way. I just want high adrenaline fast chaotic fighting. Every single thing they changed from eternal made it worse. Hopefully they figure it out on the next release I’ll never buy this one.
I miss him
>>719474813I feel the same way. I genuinely wonder what the hell they were thinking with the shield
I think the problems started in Eternal; the increased story focus and enemies having singular 'right' weapons were mistakes that diluted the more open experience the revival Doom had Like, Eternal still sold like crazy, don't get me wrong, but with franchises like this it's never the problem game that sells poorly, only really the game that comes out after it
A true doom parry system would be doomguy grabbing a demons fist midswing and tearing it offInstead of the "body destruction" system they have now, make it limb based and let us literally tear them apart
>>719474943I liked the extra strategy of different weapons for different enemies, same as archers, knights, rogues all should need different strategies in other games. Maybe a mid point is having enemies only vulnerable to individual weapons at certain times ie if your enemy stumbles with a red icon they are vulnerable to rockets briefly or whatever, then you are reacting to icons and each individual enemy might have 3 weaknesses they can be vulnerable to at diff times. You want to force high speed decisions on players to keep it engaging.
>>719469326>adding parry slop to DoomDestined to fail. Should have made Doom 2016 again.
>>719470592You really want every good franchise to be turned gay by this man ?
>>719469326Maybe because the gameplay looks like shit?
>>719474725>"Doom 2016 was good because it made le funny xD"
>>719474943> think the problems started in Eternal; the increased story focusless mandatory story than 2016> enemies having singular 'right' weaponsThe game doesn't have this.I'm UN in both games btw so shut the fuck up and listen when I'm telling you something.
>>719479114>autistic retard doesn't even understand what they're mindlessly playing over and over
>>719469326It's not Doom.
>>719469326Mandatory raytracing means that a good majority of PC players can’t even run the game
>>719469326game isn't engaging enough and then they have those stupid flying and giant missions which are not fun
>>719469326Because it was on gamepass. I played it and had a ton of fun with it but I didn't need to buy it because I could just play it for free essentially. I would pay 30 bucks tops for it had i not played it on gamepass.
>>719469326Calling this game Doom was their first mistake. The game barely resembles any Doom game I’ve played. It should have been tweaked a little more and released as a Hexen reboot. I do plan on buying it eventually when I can grab it for under $40, but yeah, ID fucked this one up.
>>719479561>Because it was on gamepassThat cope again. Why is it that only bad games need this excuse, while good games sell well even when they are on gamepass?
>>719469326>gamepass>no multiplayer>doesn't even run without an RTXGee I wonder
it's OK but it's not what people that vocally disliked doom eternal wanted and it's not what people who vocally liked doom eternal wanted. it's just there
>>719474943>enemies having singular 'right' weaponsEternal doesn't do that until the DLCs (Spirit).I'm fine with you not liking Eternal. It's a divisive game for a reason. But if you think that "durr must grenade Cacodemon durr", you don't actually get the game's combat. You can still have valid reasons to dislike it - story, lore, art style, level design, arenas, music, sound effects, whatever. But you don't understand how it plays and have a warped perspective on that.
>>719473839you mean hl1? the new order is the hl2 clone
>>719471649Probably not. Every Gamepass user I've ever met is chaining trials or sharing or dropping after a month. The service is marketed to the poorest gamers, but the poorest gamers are well equipped to scam it.
doom wads are more interesting
>>719478279negative soul
>>719471658>DOOM Slayer>Demons are supposed to fear him>Standing and fighting like an unstoppable tank is inexcusable but running away like a pussy with faggy dashes in eternal is "le epic"
>>719469326I love DOOM even up to Eternal, have absolutely 0 interest in medieval "doom" with dragons and shit
>>719489285>have absolutely 0 interest in medieval "doom"Why? Doom 1/2 had "medieval"/fantasy aesthetics in Hell. Did you forget all that marble, gargoyle faces, candelabra, fountains, even book cases?
>>719489506dude I know you are not trying to draw this comparison
>>719469326It's not Doom. If it was Doom, like Doom 2016 was, I'd be fine with it.
>>719470945>apart from doom3retarded low IQ brownoid alertdoom 3 was slow boring dogshit
>>719469326I cant even fucking run it unless I get a new video card I imagine theres lots of people like me who thought they would be able to play it since we can run Eternal. And cant complain about this or just get made fun of for having old card even tho 90% of games run fine you just NEED ray tracing or the game literally cant function its absolutely necessary. I bet you this made them lose a lot of sales im not even kidding.
>>719483718Half-Life was faster and more open though.
>>719471658hes not a good enemy in isolation its made good because hes like a chess piece on the battllefield and when this is explained to you (you already know) you have a meltdown and move the goalpost >>719474168yea because the combat is about controlling a large field of enemies and bouncing their weaknesses off each other in a systematic order, it is well designed. What youre complaining about is literally as stupid as someone playing street fighter and bitching>WOOOOOW I HAVE TO BLOCK WHEN I AM ATTACKED ITS SUPPOSE TO BE FIGHTING GAME YET I HAVE TO QTE BLOCK CLING CLANG INSTEAD OF JUST PUNCHING
>>719489770The only big difference I see is that Doom 1/2 actually have bold colors. TDA is color corrected to hell.
>>719469326Eternal was unpopular, so it makes sense that it's follow up would have poor sales.
>>719491132are you blind? retarded perhaps?
>>719491180I'm not blind, so it's gotta be the second one.
The last good doom game is 64. They're trying to capture an entirely different market, they hate me and I hate them so fuck their game
>>719490343Ray tracing at this point is a seven year old gimmick. Not exactly cutting edge anymore. An RTX2060 can run this game at steady 60fps with 1080p DLSS, you can get that GPU for like 120 bucks used nowadays. If you're so behind in hardware that you can't run this or can't afford that, you shouldn't expect to be able to run new games.
>>719491228you don't see how the the clean cut gothic interior of a mansion and burnt out ruins in a wide expanse are dissimilar?
>>719470517i have 'people who can't use filters' fatigue
>>719470592Couldn't this have worked as some hexen reboot or something that isn't doom
I don't enjoy Nu-Doom. I hate the glory kills. I hate the extra attacks (flamethrower, ice bomb). It's all just useless bloat on what is supposed to be just a simple shooter. Dark Age was made for autists, it was made for speedrunners and other faggots.
>>719469326Man, I almost forgot this game even exists. Such a huge step back compared to what came before. The gameplay’s dull, and everything just looks kinda plastic. People complained Eternal was cartoony and requested a darker game, but Hugo clearly has no idea what dark means; he’s just turning down the contrast.Honestly, the only thing that could’ve made me put up with the parry-fest and Hugo’s wet dreams about the almighty DOOMSLAYA and actually buy the game is Mick's music. I looked through all Hugo’s sliders, but couldn’t find one to switch neuro-music to Mick’s tracks. Without it, this Doom is just boreDoom on steroids - not even worth touchin’.
>>719491291I see that they both are inspired by medieval/classical architecture when it comes to materials and (occasionally) shapes. Doom 1/2 don't really do complex geometry for reasons which are hopefully obvious, so their maps are obviously more angular.Oh yeah, and lore-wise Doom 1/2 have their medieval architecture in Hell, and in TDA you see this stuff in Sentinel worlds, but who cares lol
>>719491456>everything just looks kinda plastichuh?Eternal looked plastic. literally every other surface in eternal looks like polished plexiglass. TDA just looks muddy
>>719469326my pc couldn't run it and I didn't feel like spending 70 gamerdollars on itI don't mind them experimenting though, but it looked more muddled than eternal but in a different waymore bland wich mad the less skittles coloured signal colours look more out of place in comparisonalso just in general i'm not a big "open field fps" guy, i like tight small levels with lots of advanced movement and verticality
>>719490343I get it bro. Why doesn't it work on my Xbox One like Eternal did???
>>719469326Why would people buy a singleplayer game if its on gamespass?Nobodys replaying this game 500 times, they play it on rental and then its done.Shouldnt have put a new singleplayer game on gamespass
