this one, no one knew what this was
>>
>>719472142
This is a weird one. It's the kind of thing you'd expect to be a cult classic, but virtually nobody talks about it.
>>
>>719472335
yeah I had a great time playing it, felt like quite a big game at the time
>>
this as well
>>
>>719472142
I feel like that tagline on the box should've been "This is no petting zoo"
>>
>>719472142
This game felt like a hidden gem even when it was brand new
Good times renting it
>>
>>719472142
I liked it when I played it back in the day, but trying to emulate it can be a real bitch
>>
>>719472210
I do, I fucking love AirBlade. It was on the demo disc that came with my PS2 as well so I thought a few people would know it.

I rented this from Blockbuster as a kid and had no clue what was going on. The only thing I can remember about it was the fat scientist dude.
>>
>>719473756
fucking loved this game
>>
>>719472142
Genius game.
I had so much fun with this by just goofing around.
>>
>>719473818
Yeah it was awesome, had lots of fun playing it as a kid
>>
>Vinny: Yeah, aside from Banjo Kazooie and Mario...the N64 lacked solid platformers
>Joel: Donkey Kong 64 is the best thing ever, and I will FIGHT you over it!
These two need to fucking play both Goemon N64 games.

It was a victim of timing mostly.
It released in october of 1998, ocarina of time came out the next month....
Nintendo owns the platform and the media around the N64, they swamped the advertising space with Zelda, this smaller game never stood a chance of breaking out.

Tonic Trouble, it sold over a million, but nobody ever talks about it. I thought it flopped all this time.
>>
>>719472142
It had a shitty PS1 port.
>>
>>719474191
did it?
>only for N64
>>
>>719472142
I still regularly play this game, I can't believe there still hasn't been another like it
>3rd person puzzle game
>robotic animals roaming around that you can control after you kill them
>each animal has different abilities
>need to use different animals to traverse and solve puzzles
>maps are decently sized
>every map has a secret trophy to unlock if you do an extra challenge (except for that dreaded tree trophy)
>4 biomes
>last stage in each biome is a unique challenge (rail shooter, jet ski race, flight sim, rampage)
the game is both fun and simple enough that it's been a dream of mine to learn game dev through making a spiritual successor, but coding filters me hard. maybe one day.
>>
>>719474138
tonic trouble was ass, you could tell they really tried making a good collectathon platformer only to not understand the core tenets of what makes a good collectathon.

That's because outside of the truly popular games like Banjo Kazooie and Super Mario 64, most N64 titles sold like absolute shit.
Comparing PS1 and N64 sales: Croc sold about as well as Banjo Kazooie did, Crash Bash sold as many copies as Mario Party 3, The japan-exclusive PS1 remake of Dragon Quest IV sold as many copies as Paper Mario did globally, The reboot of Frogger sold more than Majora's Mask and its sequel Frogger 2 outsold Kirby 64.
And ain't fucking nobody talking about Frogger 2 Swampy's Revenge.

kek I had no idea, thanks anon. they renamed it to get around the "exclusitivity"?
>>
>>719472142
KKnD seemed like a big deal to me but if anything today is only remembered as yet another C&C clone but post-apocalyptic.
>>

>>719472142
mfw it gets solid reviews but still never known anybody else to play it

posting this since I never see discussion around it. I really miss Midway, they had a knack for making unapologetically fun and edgy games in even if they were mid-budget. And then they went under, and WB bought their IPs, and now WB basically doesn't make games and even then they never made anything good outside of bamham anyway. What I wouldn't give for a legit new gauntlet game. Not seven sorrows, not whatever that shitty mobile-tier game on steam is, an actual successor to Dark Legacy.
>>
>>719473756
Everyones played rampage, it just kinda sucks
>>
>>719472142
This game was sick
>>719476729
This game was also sick

As for my pic related, I've seen more discussion of it recently than in the past, but back in the day, I played the absolute SHIT out of this game. Holds up to this day, and certain mechanics, like taking control of your enemies, have not been replicated to this day.
>>
>>719472142
It's weird because even shit games like Blast Corps on the N64 are more well known than this.
>>
>>719477706
That was made by Rare.
>>
bumping to make myself feel better about this game

Not just this game, the whole IP
I thought this was a pillar of couch multiplayer right there with Bomberman but turns out it only has traction in EU & even there it's not huge
>>
>>719481060
loved micro machines on N64 (and used to have a bunch of the little cars as a kid)
for me it's Dwayne
>>
>>719472335
This game is famous for not working if you have an expansion pak installed.
>>
>>719472142
It got a major magazine spread and I remember being really fascinated by it. But by the time my family could afford a N64 I couldn't find the game anywhere and the major titles were a priority. Mario, Zelda being the only ones we owned, the rest we had to rent.
>>
I saw a speed run of Body Harvest and was stunned by how long it would still take. As a kid who couldn't get past mission 2 its amazing how much content the game would have provided.
>>719474002
One of my favorite games sucks the 2nd one filtered me so hard.
>>
>>719481060
I have the N64 game, it's one of the first games I ever remember playing. Everybody sharing the same screen is cool in theory, but really stupid in practice. Unless both players have the same skill level, you're not going to actually race for more than five second intervals.
>>
>>719472142
Spacestation Silicon Valley was always rented out at my Blockbusters. Really neat game.

>>
>>719482868
The last level of the first world in the second Goemon game is fucking insane.
>>
>>719474042
it was also broken and you couldn't actually beat it without a gameshark since one of the trophies had no hitbox.
>>
>>719474002
dude I ran this one recently for nostalgia and to show my wife and man it did not age well at all.
it was good for its time but wouldn't rival BK/BT
>>
>>719489061
Yeah but the robot fights tho.
>>
Have you even thought a game is a bigger deal that it actually is simply because it got the main 4-6 pages review in a magazine and a place on the cover? For me it's pic related.
