If the Gamecube pad was so good, why did Nintendo switch to a Dualshock layout for all their later controllers?
>>719487006It didn’t. DualShock style is so retarded no one did it except Sony and they did it because the analog sticks were an afterthought and they just slapped them at the worst place possible
>>719487157I was just referring to the face buttons since that was the GC pad's differentiating feature. I think analog stick placement is totally inconsequential but if you want to count that then you're still wrong
>>719487006They came up with it first with the SNES, and it's much easier to reach the buttons quicker in the diamond shape. Smash fags are the outlier, hope this helps
>>719487765>Smash fags are the outlierWhat makes smash different
>>719487828I can't tell you because I don't play it, but it's clearly their preferred pad.My guess is big button = easier button mashing
If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?
>>719487006Why do people like the GC controller? It looks like shit
>>719487006It's an awful controller. Only one worse is the N64.
>>719487006>>719487346The Wii's Pro controller uses "Dualshock" stick and button layout because one of the Wii's defining features was the Wii Shop and Virtual Console that let you play older games. I.E. SNES games that had only the D-pad and the traditional four-button layout. They only put the sticks on the bottom coincidentally like a Playstation controller because they wanted the Pro controller to still be usable with the N64 games they later sold through the same service.TL;DR: it had nothing to do with the Playstation and everything to do with Nintendo wanting to create something that would be usable with the retro games they wanted to support.
>>719487157Stick on top of dpad is retarded and restricts movement, enjoy being punished because they don't want to admit Playstation did it right.
>>719488039Ok, zoomzoom.
>>719488202The N64 pad kinda has a DualShock layout too, so really, they could have kept the C buttons instead of the right stick and made the triggers bigger, and it would've been perfect for NES-N64
>>719488218>restricts movementliterally how
>>719488340Extend your thumb fully and try to move it, now bend your thumb and move it. Your thumb moves much easier whem bent. They had the N64 stick accessible whike your thumb was bent for a reason. Dpad with extended thumb is no problem, stick with extended thumb is not natural and has less dexterity.
>>719488539holy fuk never noticed this. right handed so it is a little smoother but left hand feels like shit with thumb stretched out and clicks into place when moving it
>>719488539>extend your thumb fullybut that's overstretching your thumb. It's much closer to the precision of a bent thumb, when you just rest it regularly, and much more importantly, on an 360° analog stick you usually don't need that sort of precision for movement, so of course an unbent thumb is much nicer
>>719488539>Extend your thumb fully and try to move it, now bend your thumb and move it. Your thumb moves much easier whem bentAm I missing some special type of autism needed to understand this reasoning? I can easily have my thumb fully bent or fully extended regardless of where the stick is placed, you just move where you're holding the controller the length of one thumb phalange
Symmetrical sticks are for pissbaby hands.Upper symmetrical sticks like Wii U Pro are an exception.
>>719488884>>719488975The more you extend your thumb the less dexterous it gets. So what is the purpose of the stick on top? Sticks on bottom is the smoothest option as d-pad and face buttons don't require as much dexterity. What is the advantage of having the stick on top that made Xbox and Nintendo choose that configuration?
>>719489837thw advantage is FUCK YOUMOTHERFUCK YOU TO HELL SNOY DRONE PIGGIE GO OINK OINK
>>719489837>What is the advantage of having the stick on top that made Xbox and Nintendo choose that configuration?you're not permanently stretching your adductor pollicis
I had two Wavebirds. Even with one turned off they would randomly spaz out and go haywire, forcing me to change the frequency but doing so would usually get me killed in whatever I was playing. People have some rose tinted nostalgia glasses for the Wavebird. It was a decent reasonably priced (30-40 dollars IIRC) with high battery life before you swap new batteries. But it was marred by the wireless disconnecting issues (made worse by having more than one in a household) and lack of rumble. Which didn't bother me, but no rumble during the GameCube era is eh. Some GameCube games went hard on the rumble, whereas Switch era games don't really go ham on rumble.
>>719490734I had 4 and never had a problem. I just set them to 1, 5, 9, 13.
>>719487006>>719487346Because it's ass and only autists like the face button layout. The only thing the gamecube controller has going for it is the high quality triggers which are scooped to keep your fingers in them.
>>719487006Lol, it's not good. The people who shill this garbage are autistic trannies who only play 1 or 2 shitty cubie games like smelee competitively>absolute dogshit d-pad unusable for fighters and 2d games>right stick is a little worthless knub>lacking a second z button>no select button
>>719488539with the Playstation controller I have to stretch my thumb downwards to reach the stick which defeats the purpose of the thumb being bent for ergonomics. Very uncomfortable in its own way. Only the Saturn, N64, Dreamcast, and Wii nunchuck have comfortable stick positions imo and none of them have two sticks.
>>719489837Did you understand what I said? You can have your thumb fully extended regardless of where it's placed on the pad. In fact the distance from your palmar crease to the analog stick is almost exactly the same in either the Xbox or Playstation layouts
