No they weren't. By the time he completed MGS3 Kojima was promoted to the CEO of the Konami game department. He had full control over what games are greenlit and budget structure. MGS5 was such a parasite of a project it siphoned the money from new Contra, Gradius, Castlevania, Silent Hill etc projects. Everything went to his own project. Saying he was doing it out of spite is beyond retarded as this leeching of money cost Konami tons of talent being fired. Kojima left the Konami game division in a dead state with all their veterans being fired by him before MGSV came out. Kojima is a egomaniac hack.

MGO is one thing, but the sneaking in the main game is just MGS3 with a few tweaks and shittier level design. I don't dislike how MGS4 plays, don't get me wrong, but I've never thought it was a massive improvement over MGS3.

MGS2's cliffhanger is a deliberate "...but Snake fights on and the adventure continues!" kind of story, fairly typical. It's a weird story, but the ending is bizarre in content more than structure. I don't fault people for wanting a sequel, but I think Snake's monologue at the end makes the intent of the game explicit.
