>all the moves unlocked at the start of the game
It’s actually over. They’ve removed a critical feature that makes Banjo-esc platformers good, which is the metroidvania aspect of unlocking new moves which further opens up the world for more discovery. The soul is erased. It’s gone. Now it’s a generic Mario clone wanna-be platformer. Fuck playtonic
>>
Game sucked anyways.

You know, they can make this the best game ever, and I still just wont like these characters.
They fell at the first hurdle when it comes to making YL work as a franchise.

That's the thing. This alone + removing the enlarging worls gimmick improved the gam,e drastically.

Basically the remake just proves the Banjo Kazooie formula just doesnt work anymore in this day and age.
>>
Didn't you buy the abilities from a shop anyway? That defeats the whole purpose of gaining abilities anyway. That mechanic is only interesting when the developers put them in specific places.
>>
>>719492564
Metroidvania and rogue likes are the most popular genres right now and both work on the basis that you progress to unlock bigger power retard

The mechanic that ruined the entire game is the flying one from the last level. It stops being a platformer at all and you can skip 90% of the content by just flying. It's horribly boring and one of the worst and most inexplicable design choices of all time because unlike Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie, you can just use it anywhere and it's only tied to a resource meter that you can fill up easily instead of a consumable.

And you're telling me they give it to you at the START? What's the point of even playing the fucking game then? It's not even a platformer anymore it's a shitty flight sim.
>>
>>719491531
This developer sucks. It’s 1 step forward and 2 steps back with everything they do. There shouldn’t even be a remaster of this game, this should be the release of the 3D sequel. Fuck them

>>719492564
expanding the world size was a flawed but intriguing idea that gave this game a sense of identity. Unlocking new moves is always fun, every time you enter a new world you wonder what move you’ll unlock that’ll alter how you play the game. Both of these are erased and instead playtonic has chosen the casual, safe, and simple approach. Now it’s truly just a generic platformer where you aimlessly run around and collect things with no rhythm or reason.
>>
>>719492827
and both of those genres arent banjo kazooie retard
>>

Who even designed the BK characters or old Rare characters in general? Was that guy even employed by playtonic when this was being made?
>>
>>719492564
It works fine. It's called Mario Odyssey and DK Bananza, along with higher quality indie games like A Hat In Time or Corn Kids 64.
You can't just conclude a genre doesn't work anymore, because someone makes a really half assed one.
>>
>>719497341
Idk, loot at Diddy Kong Racing dev names and see if there are any on the Playtonic team.
>>
>>719497341
Gregg Mayles, and no. He's actually still at Rare. Pretty much the last guy from that era who is.
>>
>>719497569
You have all your moves from the start tho in those games
>>
>>719497874
DK Bananza you unlock moves and abilities by both progressing in the game and with the talent tree. Mario always incorporates a new gimmick in each game and fully exploits it to its maximum potential by the time the game is over. A hat in time and corn kids have unlockable moves as you progress that alter the levels/game.
>>
>>719497874
did you play bananza
>>
>>719491531
Yeah honestly that's pretty stupid. The gimmick of adding to the maps was not super interesting but it was unique, and they removed that too.

I blame the autistic fucks that NEED to 100% complete a level before moving onto the next.
>>
>>719491531
The first game wasn't even made by the core developers of Banjo, it was mostly some former Rare artists who were not necessarily tied to Banjo itself but came in post-Microsoft buyout. Gregg Mayles who was the main creative force of the series and was directly involved with designing all the Banjo characters was not involved, and the original musician only contributed about half the tracks this time. The Stamper Brothers also weren't involved nor most of the core programmers of Banjo.
>>

>>
>>719504953
>Game takes out the things that make the first one shit
>the improved version that fixes everything wrong
Did they fix the generic designs? The constant recycling of NPCs? The constant insecure jokes about how shit the game is? The low enemy variety? The overly big yet empty level design? The low amount of unique setpieces in levels? The terrible quizzes? Did they fix the boring missions like travelling through rings for the millionth time or the Kartos sections actually good now? How about the terrible design language where it's unintuitive how some things will work (like how some glass cubes will break by using Yooka's sonar move, but some can only break by using the spin dash)?

A lot of the changes they've been hyping up - the controls, the camera, adding a map and fast travel, removing stamina and the God awful minigames - are good, but I wouldn't even call them the biggest flaws of the game. Plus the art style is much worse, it looks like some HIRE THIS MAN tier bullshit where some retard third worlder slaps some old game into UE4 and cranks up the post processing effects.

Except the vast majority of moves you get in Banjo-Kazooie are context sensitive, and you get everything you truly need to start the game in the first level. You're not going to come across a pair of turbo trainers before you're able to acquire the ability to use them for example.

The ironic part is that I actually wrote that down but deleted it from my post about how the only time you'd have to backtrack would be for the turbo trainers for Freezeezy Peak
>>
>>719507554
Yeah those are the only levels with any backtracking as you need the turbo trainers and beak bomb to 100% each level. Unironically all the backtracking is why tooie is one of my favorite games I try to play each level as autistically efficient as possible then do the backtracking all in one swoop. I do the same thing in majoras mask with the time cycles

>They’ve removed a critical feature that makes Banjo-esc platformers good
This game is meant to be a spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie. I can ensure you, unlocking moves was a forgettable part of Kazooie with every non-powerup move being unlocked by level 3 (Clanker's Cavern) and was an active detriment to Tooie because of the infamous degrees of backtracking it brought.
>>
>>719511018
You weren’t a 90s kid and you never played these classic Rare games as a child so you don’t know what makes them so beloved. I can assure you that one of the highlights of the banjo games was discovering what new moves you’d unlock next. Every banjo game, including nuts and bolts and banjo pilot, did this. Yooka Laylee marketed itself as “the new banjo” and now it’s turning into a super luckys tale slop-knock-off.
>>
>>719511018
No one genuinely cares about this remake. It's just ironic forced rivalry/ragebait for shilling purposes. >>719497305

>>
>>719505709

>>
>>719511246
I played Banjo-Tooie as a kid after enjoying Banjo-Kazooie and thought the backtracking was fucking lame and dropped the game by Grunty Industires. Good on Playtonic for realizing this shit is outdated design and axing it as such.
>>
>>719511609
How do they know you own the physical release...?
>>
>>719511718

>>
>>719491531

>>
If no one cares about replaylee then why is it the second best selling switch 2 game
>>
>>719505709
Ok to be clearer on each thing
>The constant insecure jokes about how shit the game is?
That's rare humor and will always be in the game
>low enemt variety
Fixed
>empty level design
levels are now packed with collectibles and feels more dense in general. I think there's twice as many pagies on top of a new collectible that's not finite, but acts as a currency like the quills in impossible lair
>unique set pieces
to be determined
>terrible quizzes
weren't they like, a small part of the game? anyways I heard they were removed
>travelling through rings
still in there but they added more variety unique to each stages, we saw one in the first level where get locked in an area and dodge flames
>Kartos
Heard they and Rextro's games were revamped, but we haven't seen footage of Kartos yet.
>How about the terrible design language where it's unintuitive how some things will work
this was mentioned in their QnA and is something they actively feel embarrassed about, that and basic things such as circular shadow always underneath the model lacking from the original release, so likely fixed
they go indepth of these changes in their hour long interviews but honestly I'd just wait and see, the game's cheap and also likely will be easy to pirate
>
>>
>>719491531
lol you can fly everywhere at game start ? what were they thinking ?
>>
>>719511925
There are no Switch 2 games aside from Shitnanza and Mario Kart World which people got bored of already
>>
>>719506251
>You're not going to come across a pair of turbo trainers before you're able to acquire the ability to use them for example.
There's a pair in the croc duel room in bubblegloop swamp (not required to use), and one in freezeeasy peak (required to win the boggy race), both of which you will most likely encounter before going to gobi valley.
>>
>>719511443
Uh oh. The thread got bumped again because of you :(
>>
Locking moves was always arbitrary nonsense. Mario 64 gave you all the moves you needed from the start. And surprise surprise, it's still one of the most well loved 3D platformers of all time.
>>
>>719513587
>Mario 64 gave you all the moves you needed from the start
You mean except the three cap powerups.
>>
>>719513741
Powerups =! inherent moves
>>
>>719513779
It is when you have to unlock them, then backtrack to earlier levels to use it.
>>
>>719511018
HAVING TO get new abilities doesn't make ANY GAME GOOD. The abilities is what makes them good, not acquiring them.
>>
>>719513853

>>
>>719491531
I still don't understand what the point of this was. It seems like wasted effort that could have went to a sequel instead.
>>
>>719502975
That's a bit of a cop out, you have the capture mechanic from the beginning that's correct. Saying it doesn't count because you encounter different enemies is like saying it doesn't count in any platformer game because the level design is different.
>>
>>719511018
I don't think a single person complained about yookas unlocks, so its a bizare thing to change.
The actual complaints were the roll not being enough, and the worlds again being too fucking big, even expanded. The same two issues everybody complains about tooie having, funnily enough.

>>
>>719514290
The worlds being "too big" always sounded like a cope to me because unlike Tooie, traversal was a lot faster in YL (yes the stamina sucked and shouldn't have been a thing, not denying that).
Galaxy Park and arguably the Casino are the worst offenders since the former is a ridiculously bloated and sparse Treasure Trove Cove with the only content being on the islands or inside the planets and the former sucked when looking for the last few Quills in the broken slot machines as the slow ass helicopter.

And I don't buy the excuse the worlds were "le too empty" either.
There was enough to do/find around every corner, it's just that the game was shit with its guidance with Quills, since those were just placed where ever the fuck the devs felt like which was purposefully trollish.
>Casino has some hidden on top of the entrance pipes where you can't fucking see them when entering
>Some hidden under small starting platforms in a few hazardous room
>One, literally ONE, was hidden in some gay little corner of the tower where you meet Shovel Knight
There's plenty of other instances like this throughout the game that I can't remember, but it was consistently annoying.
If they were going to have players put that much effort just to find less than 10 individual Quills or a few grouped together tucked behind a corner of a door-tier shit then they should've bundled them like Tooie did.
