Play the WotL version. It sucked on release because the PSP literally couldn't keep up with the processing and so it would slow to a chug on each turn, but emulated on modern hardware it is snappy and by far the superior way to play.

I actually started a playthough of the og recently.

Kind of fucked up after a while, wanted to fuck around for a little bit with end game items so I used an every item code after saving.

It didn't work at first and like an idiot I decided to not to reset and turn off the code, no I played a few battles and saved. Then I changed jobs and suddenly had shit I'd never got appeared.

I didn’t say it was bad, but it didn’t sell that hot, same with Xenogears. I like these games a lot but they have more of a cult following and will require someone within the business willing to take a risk on it. The only somewhat recent example of that happening was Saito taking a chance on Nier and deciding to greenlight Automata. Not sure it’s that common, especially now they want to cut down on AA projects.
>>
>>719497349
I hope this does well enough, because they already did all the work via this game rebuilding everything from scratch, so they already have everything together if they wanted to shfit into a sequel. Matsuno expressed interest before.

But I already know that only Fire Emblem does well as a tactical/strategy rpg, and it's a niche genre. So it's just wishful thinking. But I can daydream.
>>
>>719513373
in this climate their expectations are probably beyond realistic
>>
>>719513442
I dunno about expectations, but I just don't think the demand is realistically there. The genre is too niche, unless it's FE.
>>
>>719513373
>Matsuno expressed interest before.
The last thing he said about an SRPG was that he wanted to finish out Ogre Battle before he died. Sakaguchi said he was working on something around the same time, but we've heard nothing for years. At this point it could be just about anything, or it could've been killed by FFXVI's lukewarm reception. Supposedly Taro has been working on something this entire time too. Company is in shambles, I wouldn't expect anything soon, or even at all.

>A few years after the ending of Final Fantasy Tactics, Ramza is still with his comrades, and in fact the group has grown even larger. The group is in Ordallia and helping out a resistance movement that opposes the country's oppressive regime. In this setting, there are rumors that as king of Ivalice, Delita is considering sending troops to Ordallia to help quash this resistance, and Ramza is prepared to oppose Delita once again in order to protect his friends, both new and old. While it is doubtful that the king himself would come to Ordallia, this nevertheless would put the two former friends on opposite sides once again.

Considering that the ending of Ivalice Chronicles (Enhanced version) is clarified a bit to make things a bit more clear, there are rumors that it's trying to ease a setup for a sequel

>>
>>719514223
Eh. They should leave Ramza out of the sequel. Matsuno was barely able to give him any character development after chapter 2 other than being good guy hero. His storu is done and over with.
>>
>>719514307
They're not using the other version's script.
They're using the other version's TRANSLATION.

The japanese version is using the original script, and not the WotL version.

>and Ramza is prepared to oppose Delita once again in order to protect his friends

>>
>>719514336
I'd be fine with Ramza being in the sequel, but I'd like it better if he was around more as an NPC (maybe you're part of his group, leading your own units). He can join back in late (like Orlandu in original) or something.
>>
>>719497349
>No War of The Lions
I get it. They wanted the OG stuff.
Thing is War of The Lions adds in a lot of new stuff people liked.
If they wanted a real remake, then they could've included War of The Lions and the option to either play the OG Ivalice Chronicles without WoTL content, or with it.
Simple thing to do, but they fucked it up. Typical Squeenix not using their brains.
>>
>>719514496
>Isn't Delita dead?
No. He's been saying in interviews this was the case for years.
Ivalice Chronicles ending is supposed to clarify that aspect better. People are stabbed but not killed.
>>
>>719514307
Remakes are a struggle for them, not sure why
>>
>>719514661
they don't give a fuck
>>
>>719514589
No so much a Square Enix issue in this specific aspect, but the original creators. War of the Lions was made with zero input from there in a time when Square was doing a lot of revisions of older games for their portables outside of the original creators' visions.

Now as a consumer, almost none of us are gonig to give a shit about that. But the people who created this stuff would care.

And while I liked Balthier (as a unit) and Dark Knight was neat, I didn't particular like some of their story alterations in some of the new cutscenes. Felt out-of-place and weird, like Delita popping in out of nowhere randomly everywhere.

I'm sure the OG creators didn't care for the story changes.

Disagree with decisions, yeah. But it's kinda false to claim not giving a fuck.
>>
>>719514764
Ok, but if they just stop being autistsic for 5 minutes, they'll realise a lot of people liked the changes, or that for a lot of them might even have been their first exposure to FFT so WotL IS FFT to them.
Just make a toggle when you start the game for the original experience or the WotL one and you'd make nearly everyone happy.

They confirmed that part of the reason MM11 exists is because the Legacy Collection sold well. Yet the X Collections and Battle Network Collections also sold well, hell I think BN sold the best out of all of them, yet there's zero signs for those series getting a new entry.
>>
>>719518139
>yet there's zero signs for those series getting a new entry
Because the guy who was championing the Mega Man games at Capcom (I forgot his name... NOT the guy who left longer ago who did Mightly No 9) left Capcom, so there's nobody using those numbers and pushign for a new Mega Man.
>>
Why I think there's a better chance of a FFT sequel happening is that Yoshi-P (even if you hate him) is well-liked by the upper people at Square Enix, and he's always been a huge Matsuno fan. So if there's a case of this doing well enough, he'd be the guy who'd be championing for a new one with Matsuno.

But realisitically, this is a Tactics game. It's delusional to pretend it will do well enough to justify a sequel. This one will do "well enough" largely for nostalgia.

Known gameplay improvements seem to be 99% UI related so far. Even the random encounters could be modded to not be random for years. I never considered FFT a weak game in the UI department so I'm hoping they did something more interesting if they want to charge that much money for what seems to be a nice port.

I knew /v/ was fucking all young and shit zoomers at this point, but holy shit
Companies didn't keep source code past when they were needed in the 90's, unless a random dev decided to store it themselves personally. Storage space was an actually concern then (not like now where 150 gb games are the norm and nobody gives a shit)

Capcom had to rebuild the original 3 Devil May Cry games for their collection since they had no source code. It was outsourced to a western group, and they used rentals from Blockbuster as reference to rebuild all 3 games.

It's also why Icewind Dale II does not have an enhanced edition. Absolutely nobody they can find has the source code at all for that anymore, while all the prior Infinity Engine games had random devs who happened to have it on them (wasn't saved by any actual companies). IWD2 would have to be completely rebuilt, but there is not expected to be a big enough audience to justify that effort (unlike older games like these)
>>
>>719527205
>Capcom had to rebuild the original 3 Devil May Cry games for their collection since they had no source code.
That's bullshit, or at least partially. We know this isn't completely true because we got a Devil May Cry 2 source code leak.
>>
>>719527205

>On November 1, 2020, Capcom was targeted in a ransomware attack by the hacker group Ragnar Locker. This resulted in the theft and release of personal information, as well as development assets (including source code, in many cases) for several Capcom projects - Devil May Cry 2 being one of them. Present in the leak is full source code and various other development assets for the game in all languages (including the elusive Chinese version.)

Or did you trick yourself to think that a 2020 leak was the original source code for 90's/early 2000's?

A lot of developers made back ups of their games, probably out of love to their work or because they saw profitability in keeping that material. Nintendo, Al Lowe, William Salvador/Rebecca Ann Heineman, John Calhoun, John Romero, Dave Ashley, Digital Eclipse, BioWare employees, Kevin Edwards, Climax Studios, Electronic Arts, David S. Maynard, Chris Shrigley, Williams Electronics/Bally Midway Games, Ed Fries, Telltale Games, Microsoft, and even Tose Software preserved a lot of material.
>don't know if I ever told you, but the Tose pres told me they have all of the source code for every game they've done
https://x.com/frankcifaldi/status/851263162670133248
>>
>>719527612
And they weren't often maintained by the companies themselves, but individuals.
>>
>>719527594
The source code leaks has abandoned ideas that could only come from the original development.

>>
No really what's the reason why WOTL stuff isn't in? It's not like there was a lot of additions.
>>
>>719527790
Because it was made in spite of the original creators, and different people made story changes than the original.

Whether that's a good reason or not, depends on who you are, but that is the reason. The original creators are involved in this remake.
>>
>>719527612

I want:
1. The source of your quote.
2. An explanation of why would Capcom create a script for the game with unimplemented ideas for a game that was a simple port of the retail games.
We also had source code for The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, a game that was never ported nor remade to newer systems, so it would've been absurd to just recreate it for no reason.

The modification dates, and the fact we have source code for a game that was never ported, remastered or remade tells me it's bullshit. It was a leak that happened because Capcom got hit with ransomware. It was taken from their servers.

Because unless there were plans to reuse it for another project, there was no need to spend resources/space on it beyond a certain point. This was well before preservation was on man people's minds.

The reason the few people who did even did it in the first place is largely because of pride in their own work and wanting to keep it themselves (or again, if a future project would be based on it)

Obviously gaming in general has changed, storage is cheap and plentiful, and rereleases are huge.

>“In 2012 when 2K games wanted to reissue Bioshock they didn't have it,” says Alex Handy, director of the Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment, an organization that has committed itself to archiving a medium that has historically had zero concern for its own history. “They had to run around, computer to computer, asking ‘does this guy have Bioshock?’ This is one of the biggest games of the 2000s and they couldn’t find the source code.”

a fft game like this you should be able to live in it, it should fulfill all my needs, but I know it's just shit slop. THey should make a new game that isn't shit that makes fft that game from a hundred years ago look like a joke, isn't the industry advancing and not stagnant or my god regressive? Where is the result of all this time? It's not there, that's the truth, they are lazy greedy nips.

The post they were responding to was someone claiming that anyone was defending "Japanese idiotic practices". They're pointing out this was a worldwide thing, not Japanese only.

This is a verified list of video games whose source code was lost at least temporarily by the copyright holder. If anyone wants sources that verify that the source code for a particular game was lost, feel free to ask.

ZZT (1991).

There's only beta source code surviving for Disney's Beauty & The Beast: A Boardgame Adventure (1999), Donkey Kong (1983) [Atari 8-bit], The Little Mermaid II: Pinball Frenzy (2000), Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee [PSX], Silent Hill 2 (2001), and Silent Hill 3 (2003).
It's a pity that source code releases aren't more common.
>>
>>719530060
Again I get the assets but the actual code would of been incredibly easy to store, even for a big company.
I guess thats what makes it so foreign and intresting. The mindset not too, that it wasn't on people minds.

Example: This thread
>>
>>719530303
BioShock (2007): Recovered and it compiles fine.
Blake Stone: Planet Strike (1994): Recovered, released under the GPL.
Virgin Games' Disney's Aladdin (1993): Recovered by the Video Game History Foundation.
Ecco the Dolphin (1992): Recovered by CodeFire to make a Game Body Advance port.
Fallout (1997): Recovered by Tim Cain. It does not compile.
Grim Fandango (1998): Recovered.
Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete (2000): Source code for the Mac port recovered.
Prince of Persia (1989): Recovered, available on GitHub. https://github.com/jmechner/Prince-of-Persia-Apple-II
Saints Row 2 for Microsoft Windows (2008): Recovered, an update it's on the works. Deep Silver and Volition promised Mike "IdolNinja" Watson that they will finish the update no matter what. The likelihood of Volition actually delivering, however, is pretty low, considering that they are now dead, and six feet under.
Sonic Spinball (1993): Recovered by CodeFire to make a Game Body Advance port.
Virtua Formula (1993): Recovered, used as the basis for the Virtua Racing port for Nintendo Switch.
ZZT (1991): There's a byte accurate recreation on GitHub under the MIT License with the blessing of Tim Sweeney. The actual source code from 1991 was recovered in 2023.

>>
>>719530318
I didn't really save any of my projects in High School and College after awhile, because their purpose was served.
The idea of re-releasing a game wasn't really a thing early on. They largely made brand new games for each new console, not just rerelease stuff. Hell, the collection of NES Mario games for the SNES collection distinctly feels different physics-wise when playing Super Mario 1 because they didn't have code for the first game, and you can tell in the controls.

Nowadays, games get re-released almost every new console release. Completely different mindset
>>
>>719530345
No fucking way. Chapter 1, I 100% agree. As the game goes on though... and Catuia.
Tactics gets better the more you play, TO gets exponentially worse.
>>
>>719530451
>Hell, the collection of NES Mario games for the SNES collection distinctly feels different physics-wise when playing Super Mario 1 because they didn't have code for the first game, and you can tell in the controls.
>Present among the numerous assets in the July 2020 Nintendo leak was source code and a small amount of other assets for Super Mario All-Stars. Notably, this includes source code for the games included in the compilation, which was modified from the source code for the original games. However, the source code for Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario World is missing, as well as the majority of the code for Super Mario Bros. 3. This may be due to the code being taken and repurposed for the Super Mario Advance games.
https://tcrf.net/Development:Super_Mario_All-Stars_(SNES)
It was written in ASM, anyway.
>>
did they fix the translation of the chapter 4 title?

I will never buy it without multiplayer or something that really sells it, adding in shitty british accents that aren't even saying things the shitty looking units in upscaled shit would even say is cancer. Every time a unit talks it feels like I'm being degraded.

they r-r-r-ruined it~

I would pay nothing for it since it has no reason to exist, it's 2025 and there's no multiplayer at all?
>>
>>719530470
nta but it heavily depends on what you find more important in these games. I can definitely see someone preferring TO
>>
So I'm taking a few of these posts is one really weird person trying to troll, with how... weird I'll say... some of his "complaints" are.
>>
>>719530550
They added being able to undo your movement, rejoice.
>>
I didn't even pay $50 for the original when I bought it new iirc it was like 10-15$ for a good game, complete with manual and all, this is just so insulting that I don't know how to take it.
>>
>>719530487
Well I stand partially corrected on that one.
So what was the reason for Super Mario Bros 1 having different physics than the NES version? I always heard it was the absence of code for that one specifically
>>
>>719530580
Yes, anyone who just replays that glorious first chapter over and over again. It was better than anything in FFT.
>>
>>719530691
I never found the first Chapter all that good for anything other than the last decision point and setting up the rest of the story.

What I loved about TO was the full "Lawful" route and the questionable decisions needed to make that work. Made for a much more interesting story and complex main character in that route.

FFT always felt like "what if we took the Chaos route, but focused on it and made it actually good"
>>
the industry is weird, I think it really does function on "well they will just be such suckers it will go well" this thing should be destroyed, and it's already too late to "add multiplayer", that should have been a given. Why change anything, why give me shitty British voice acting? TO scam me. To scam people out of their money. It is a scam slop game. All that keeps it going is delusion and if that literally sells copies then it's scary.
>>
the way the ui contrasts with the shit and with the voices is so gross...I hate this game.
>>
>>719530673
Good question. I swear I saw the answer somewhere, but I can't find it, either in the archives nor Twitter.
>>
I think there's a no-shit bot posting in here now.
Some of these newer posts are very weird.
>>
>>719530857
Huh. I'm curious now, I'll have to look around if I can find it later as well.
>>
>>719530838
instead of the graceful silent units they were with no mouths that you can see because graphics are shit since it's a ps1 and that's the excuse.

Why not since it's 2025 just remake it in Unreal? and simulate all the little details of what it is to be in the tactics world down to the fibers on their ass. Then you can add shit voices, then you can single player it, then you can give me nothing but the same shit, and even then I wouldn't buy it since it's unoriginal.
>>
>All the seethe here when we haven't been able to see how hard Tactical mode is and the so-called added dialogue and improvements
I'll wait until the game is fully out to assess if it's worth my money on sale of course.
>>
>>719530470
the story is straight up better in 2/3 routes with actual conclusions to the themes and tying up of loose ends. FFT completely swerving from the oligarchies vs commons in favor of demons and the complete lack of final confrontation between Ramsa/Delita will always leave a bad taste in my mouth. TO has better gameplay, variety, and maps. TO's customization is more interesting. Don't get me wrong, every version has some annoying shit to it like leveling or some of the skill grinding, but as an overall game TO is much grander and more ambitious than FFT which includes being more fun to replay to me
>>
>>719530979
why not just make a product....I could have anger problems because of this game...why not make a product worth a fuck instead of slop? Wouldn't you rather spend your short life doing that? do you have any honor?
>>
>>719531070
This game is an insult to my intelligence. It should be a crime, you can't just sell shit to children.
>>
>>719531032
Only some seethe, I think one of these was just a troll, and some of the latest ones might be a bot.
There's some legitimate complaints here and there though for people whose first experience was the PSP version. I may disagree on it being better, but it's a very fair point of reference for how they view the game.
>>
>>719530451

>>
>>719531119
I was referring to seethe outside of here too.
>I may disagree on it being better, but it's a very fair point of reference for how they view the game.
This is a fair reason for not being happy, but I also remember that the added content was pretty contentious and it was never in the original. It's not surprising to me that the team decided to just work with the original and tried to address complaints related to it.
>>
>>719531164
I don't have anything to play this month.
I already beat TO:R, so I'm just doing some post-game Disgaea 5 (yeah, I know it's all about grinding and isn't actually Tactics or anything, but ti's fun grinding in it)
A full month is annoying.
>>
It is so lame that they would do this, because it's a business decision not just oh I can fuck over my family or freinds, this is about their real reputations and income. It's barely an even polished turd, oh god they have the war of the lions dialogue and they added in voice acting so it's like the already ruined game amplifying how shitty it is, something about those brittish voices is so toxic. "have at you" while you perform dash. It's not real time, it's awkward.

>>719531417

>>
>>719531504

that's will never last, the iq to money spent will somehow collapse into death/poverty for the little minions they feed on

I actually may take a stand and just never buy it, I didn't buy any of them after advance, I didn't like 12 too much either.

It was extrapolation by people who weren't happy that Ramza can't get cool sword skills, which is ridiculous to me because said 'cool sword skills' are the property of actual recognized vets, something that Ramza never was.

>According to the Final Fantasy Tactics collaboration in Lord of Vermilion III, which Matsuno says is canon, a few years after the ending of Final Fantasy Tactics, Ramza is still with his comrades, and in fact the group has grown even larger.

Can have multiple 100% procs, like stun and poison, can use blowguns, level as rk or cleric for high mind, stagger and dodge makes them dodge tanks, steelstance works well, too. Blowguns+Eagle eye are devastating, alternatively high mind and blowgun. Can go poison and short bow to dish out status procs fast, raise int do have ninjutsu deal damage and use the ninjutsu proc to dish out stop to everyone.
Dualwield or katana + statstick.

Iwd2 has an ee, but ok.
>>
>>719530287
Both are hot. Fft has more appeal, but I like to better. Killing a pirate and his gf. The gf dropping 3 sending stones hit different, knowing she was pregnant.

IWD2 has a fan mod that they called an EE, which overrides things of the original release.

It's not a remade version with enhancements. The source code (unless some random dev never heard word that people were looking for it) is no shit lost.
>>
>>719538374
No it doesn't. It has a mod.

Anon, the post that >>719538374 was replying to is clearly referring to an official release, hence the talk about source code.

If someone were to name their mode "The Official Expansion" for a game, that doesn't mean the same thing as "an official expansion" being released for the game.

Meaning a name alone might not be sufficient in all cases, I see.

I love how people these days will never understand that data / storage used to be the expensive part of computers (and hardware was relatively cheap in comparison) and now it is the opposite.
>>
>>719548731
>Large gaming companies couldn't store their most valuable assets for the future, it was too expensive
>Random devs totally could do that tho.
They were just incompetent anon, it was never about the price.

just came to say you're a dirty fucking xiever kys

How many times are they going to remake Matsuno's tactics games?
>>
>>719497349
Stop buying demakes
>>
>>719549917
Not buying fftr leads to less sales, leads to lower chance for an actual srpg coming out. The ones announced suck big league.

Stop buying demakes

holy fuck, i was trying to find an old strategy rpg that i forgot, that was it, hoshigami, thanks anon

When you've got to count yourself standing alongside Muslims to prove a point, you know you've lost.
>>
>>719550361
buying demakes = more demakes with lower budgets
they're just trying to fleece you, they aren't trying to make games
they have money to make games

Purse weapon can bypass monk "no weapon" requirement. Iirc damage is a bit random but its still stats vs nothing
>>
>>719531582
You dumb nigger monk gets a damage boost when unarmed due to the brawler passive, the fist damage scales on a percentage with bravery a 97 bravery monk can nuke niggas by punching them and dual wield monk kills every single unit in the game except some bosses with a single attack, at some point dual wielding him becomes irrelevant since killing an enemy twice doesn't matter.
Good hp scaling not best stats tho, the leveling system is a bit fucked up and I don't like it.
>>
>>719550526
>>719551026
I won't buy fft demake. It's objectively the worst published edition. Fft selling well will raise the chance for a proper srpg in the future.
>>
>>719551337
Equipping a purse on a female monk is actually less damage, the purses are useless except if you use them to give their passive abilities to units that will never attack anyway, and they're only very fringe cases since every mage has a staff or rod that is way better.
>>
>>719551851
This has not, and does not happen, stop trying to make up excuses to shill demakes.
>>
>>719531260
Did you know that this "Christian" calendar actually predates Christianity? It was made by Julius Caesar.
What does that have to do with anything anyway? Just because a religious person touched something doesn't instantly make you religious if you use it, just like saying "oh my god" in shock when you're not religious doesn't suddenly make you a saint.
>>
>>719552034
Why are you daft? Have you been raped (again)? Companies produce games. They choose games that promise profit. If a game has been profitable, they might make a similar game (again). Not difficult, is it? This version is shit, not all remakes are completely bad.
>>
>>719552504
>Julius Caesar
Gaius julius, if you want educated people to take you seriously. Every other roman emperor was julius caesar. You are referring to gaius julius.
>>
>>719552668
Everybody knows who THE Julius Caesar was. Every Roman emperor had a million titles but they weren't their actual names.
You are either supremely autistic or are trying to bait me, in which case you've won I guess.

Who gives a fuck, XIV is a shit game and an insult to XI (that it loves to ape)
>>
>>719552623
They see that DEMAKES sell, and continue to make them instead of new games because retards will gladly pay for old games again and again with this misguided and equally as retarded notion that they will get new games when that is not the case.
You are an idiot, go fuck yourself with a cactus.
>>
>>719552856
Is there a third possibility? Preferably one that includes vidya.
>>
>>719553248
>fuck yourself with a cactus.
Had your mother yesterday, can't recommend.
>continue to sell demakes
Certainly, but to and fft are/will be successful, so they might release a new tactics game. Ideally it will be a good game. Additionally I'd like to see a full remake of vs.
>>
>>719523207
tell that to a muslim, muhammad. he was a fucking pedo.
disgusting, aidsridden subhuman piece of shit
