No, it didn't. By the time Back 4 Blood (or even just Evolve) came out, most of the people that actually made L4D work had long since left Turtle Rock Studios. Mike Booth specifically is actually one of the most important people regarding L4D, as he was amazing at making enemy bots/AI and is responsible for the Director that defined the original games (he's also one of the gods that's responsible for the gigakino that is Nox). Him and the actual worthwhile people at Turtle Rock, which had all left after L4D2, were what made those games work, not Valve as some niggers like to imply (which is especially funny for them to do, because we've already seen what the contributors from the Valve side of things have done since then: it's called The Anacrusis, and there's a reason you've heard of it even less than B4B)

So this is the first time that a L4D successor is actually being made by one of the people that had actually properly worked on it, rather than just grifters.

Hell, Mike Booth is responsible for creating a lot of the AI bot technology that has become standard in the industry to this day (Counter Strike's offline bots are his creation). He worked on Red Alert 2 and C&C Generals also. There's no denying he's legit. But he needs to get the band back together so to speak to really make a true L4D successor.

Phil Robb and Chris Ashton were real deal core contributors of L4D too but that didn't stop B4B from failing. Not to knock on Mike Booth because I'd rate him even higher than Robb and Ashton on contributing to L4D, but games never fall on a single guy's shoulders, and also depend on a lot of outside factors than just the developers. Even if you got all 3 to come back together it wouldn't work. Even if you got every original contributor back together it wouldn't work. You can't catch lightning in a bottle twice even if you use the exact same bottle.

The thing is we don't need a L4D3 for the same reasons we don't need a Marathon 4 or new game in the Doom engine. It's piss-easy to make your own shit. We're even nearing people managing to make real total conversions like Nightmare (quality of said mod notwithstanding) and custom special infected/survivors with Vscript.

The defining thing about L4D is the way the horde is controlled, how the infected navigate and attack, and how the Special Infected act as enemy player bots. That is ALL Mike Booth. It's a solid foundation that makes it so that playing on empty bullshit maps from the Workshop with all the characters replaced with 2hu models is still a fun experience, because everything else can be stripped away
