That kind of small low power chainsaw you posted isn't dangerous at all, they're not even very powerful or heavy or cumbersome.
I work in landscaping and we use those kind of small chainsaws all the time and they're only really good for removing small trees, branches, brush, bushes, etc.
The real dangerous ones are the ones the logging industry guys use, some of those have 20 inch long saws or longer and they cost like $2000 bucks.

Chainsaw bros how do we feel about electric? I think a lot of those problems can be solved with a smaller electric saw without much loss in killing power. Just rip it out and pull the trigger and you’ve got saw. Pretty light too

LMAO
>Slow start up
From a cold head yeah, but if it is already idling then it is just a pull of the throttle trigger
>Needs fuel
Literally the exact Stihl powerhead OP posted can let it idle for an hour and get 15-20 minutes of full throttle from a topped up tank
>As dangerous to the wielder as to the enemy
Absolutely. Real life isn't movies or video games and if you are running a 1/2 comp chain like the pic in OP it will absolutely kick when it first hits bone before it can bite and you risk catching that kickback in the face or legs if you aren't prepared.

You want to know how I know OP has never actually used a chainsaw? Because he doesn't bring up the most obvious thing any sawyer would think when asked about using a chainsaw as a weapon: The chain would throw the moment it got tangled up on warm meat. Slaughterhouses uses specific chains to decapitate animals, they tighten those chains to the max, and they pause between cuts to make sure sinew doesn't get into the bar guide, and if it does they either grab a different saw or pause the line so they can pull their scrench to clean the bar and reset the chain.

None of the niggers posting ITT has ever had a real job.
>>
>>719510387
Fine for limbing and small property maintence. Doesn't have enough torq to handle C-class and up. Also the batteries are heavy, rundown very fast the harder they have to work, and have to be carried out at the end of the day. Liquid fuel is superior for real work, but electric is fine if you just own a small property and don't have to really work.
>>
>>719510387
Electric saws, and most electric tools in general, just aren't up to par yet for anything beyond home use. For serious work you just can't beat the reliability of gasoline. It's much cheaper and easier to bring a jerrycan with you than having to worry about running out of batteries which stops your workflow. The last thing you want to do is end up having to stop and hope that the jobsite has a place you can plug in your equipment.
For some things like power drills its unavoidable which is why every guy that uses on carries around at least 3 batteries for it, in case one of those fuckers dies and your backup fucks up you can still work.
>>
>>719511453
There are no gasoline powered chainsaws on the market. Every single commercialy available chainsaw right now runs on a diesel/oil mix that the operator needs to mix himself.

Also no one uses jerry cans for fuel. This isn't the 1940s, we use Dolmar because they are lightweight, have pressure release valves, and you can measure your diesel to ensure you get the right amount of oil admix. Seriously who wants to lug around 5 pounds of metal on top of 15 pounds of fuel?
>>
>>719498394
>Cumbersome
Explain this then
>>
>>719511927
>There are no gasoline powered chainsaws on the market.
There are in my country. Echo, Ryobi, Husqvarna, etc all make gas powered ones. You just need to mix it with 2 stroke oil.
Jerry cans are very common we use them everyday, one of them is just gas and the other we keep premixed with oil for the 2 stroke machines.
>>
What does chainsaw combat look like? Are you going for dismemberment and bisections? The benefit of a chainsaw seems like it's just a guaranteed laceration where it lands without much skill or effort, so you'd be lazily slashing for arteries as opposed to chopping or stabbing
>>
>>719511927
>Every single commercialy available chainsaw right now runs on a diesel/oil mix that the operator needs to mix himself.

You basically get a single high-damage hit, but it's gonna be gummed up with meat afterwards. You're also likely to hit yourself with it too, so it would never be worth it.
>>
>>719512571
No one, and I mean no one, carries a jerry can as a sawyer. No one, and I mean no one, premixes because it seperates in 12 hours which is why you have to mix it on the job site.

Now go ahead and and spend the next ten minutes googling to look for a reason why you are right and I am wrong you fucking nigger who has never had a job and wants to larp like you know what the fuck you are talking about. Worthless larping nigger.

I don't work in logging I do landscaping. We keep the gasoline mixed with the oil and no it never separates and yes we keep it in jerrycans.
You might be surprised to discover that not everybody does things the same way you do.

Unironically one of the most dangerous tools you can own, far more than a chainsaw. These things spin a small fragile disc at 12000 RPM. These things kickback or explode the disc and send thousands of people to the hospital every year.
>>
>>719498394
Im very confused what kind of melee weapon would do more damage than one thats powered by an engine? If you think a chainsaw is heavy you sure as shit wouldn't be able to use a tradional melee weapon effectively
>>
>>719515130
An extremely sharp or precise weapon. In the right place a rapier for example can kill instantly and extremely quickly with great range as well.
>>
>>719514880
>people
cheapskates and retards*
Use the proper disc for the task at hand and change it before it breaks. And learn how to operate a powertool before you use it in earnest. That one looks like it has a polishing disc on, you wouldn't use that to cut shit.
>>
>>719498394
you could have made actual points like
>chain snapping and sawing you on hit
or
>cloth/flesh jamming the motor
but you're just a retard
>>
>>719499238
The only thing I'd use to cut a deckboard other than a skilsaw is a handsaw, and if a skilsaw is too slow for you I don't know what else you expect.
>>
>>719506870
is this a chainsaw advertisement or a yoga pants advertisement
>>
>>719515595
Even properly used its very easy to underestimate how dangerous they are. They spin a metal disc 200 times a second and even though the disc is designed not to explode sometimes it still explodes and in other cases its a small tool yet it has so much torque its many times more powerful than your whole body so a small kickback and easily send it into your body which can and does happen to thousands of people a year.
Don't fuck around with angle grinders.
>>
>>719510387
It's honestly not even a bad idea having both. Electric is good for quick jobs you don't give a shit about, but you really want gas for heavy duty shit or when you're going to be working all day
>>
>>719498394
I never played a game where the chainsaw didn't need fuel
>>
>>719498394
I have the 271 with a 20" bar. Great saw. Have lost countless ash trees to the bore the past year, so it has more than paid itself off.
>>
>>719514880
>safety glasses
>don't take the guard off for no reason like a fucking retard
>use both hands
And you're gold. If you're a real pussy you can get a face shield. Grinders are only scary on the inevitable odd job where the guard actually gets in the way or you have to use one hand to reach whatever you're cutting.

>>
>>719516607

>>
>>719510387

>>

>>

If I had to pick a power tool to use as a weapon I'd go straight for the recip saw. You get a big exposed blade violently shaking around with zero safety and the tool is designed to take a fuckton of abuse to begin with, I don't see it gumming up like a chain saw.

>Lumberjack
Lumberjacks are the guys that work at lumbermills. They take logs and make them into board lumber. Sawyers are part of the woodsmen class. Sawyers include the fallers (who exclusively fall timber [me]), and the loggers (guys that limb timber and cut it into logs). The union (Woodsmen of the World) doesn't just include us, but also extends to jobs related to sawyers like the donkeys (guys that load the logs onto trucks/trains), firemen (guys that come in after we are all done, cut the brush away, and burn the roots and scrub to the ground), and hoedads (guys that come in to plant new trees, and make barriers to keep the deer out). I really want you to ask me about forest fires, the unionbusting of the Clinton administration, and why the west coast has been burning for 30 years but I am not going to bring it up because I am a good boomer who did nothing but discuss NES/SNES/PS1 games and how shit modern metroidvanias are.

Low damage is a stupid point to make but it's not going to get far. It tears through wood but wood is hard enough that the saw is able to chisel off small, harmless chips and the rest of it maintains it's shape. Try to cut soft tissue with it and the teeth are going to grab on and pull chunks of flesh into itself. God forbid it catches a piece of clothing
