It is possible that they don;t see a good window to release this in the following months. But the reports that audiences had mixed responses at test screenings does imply that they might make a few changes before the final release. Reports claim that their will be changing nothing.

I have read either mixed test screening feedback or positive screen testing feedback. With a claim that 'being at the Mortal Kombat 2 test screening was like being at the Avengers End Game test screening' from one of the producers. Either the movie is done and they are waiting for the right time to release it, or they are retooling it at the editing bay (at least). I have no insider knowledge.
