Fallout 2 flanderized the series long before Bethesda did
Old world blues is awful
But Bethesda did the most damage
>>

im playing the game right now and youre wrong
>>
>>719506472
bro there's already a Fallout thread.

OP is fine. We have to counteract the offsite normalfag and eceleb nonsense with actual vidya and japanese vidya.
>>

>But Bethesda did the most damage
i can agree with that, but i feel like a lot of the damage made by Bethesda can still be traced back to Black Isle in some way.
>>
Fallout 2 is easily the worst Fallout game. It's every terrible part of the first game amped up to 10 with none of the good.
>>
>it's "I saw video on youtube so I will parrot it to farm replies" episode
You never played original Fallouts
>>
>>719506472
it just wasn't avery good game, in general. the first one wasn't even THAT good, i played it last year and it was honestly pretty meh. like a 7/10 game or something, if i had to score it. truth is, the fallout guys just got lucky, they hit absolute gold when they created that ip and the ip is a hundred percent carried by the nostalgia googles that the fans have for it. just look at all the other post-apocalypse games there are out there, none of them managed to break through and create a solid cult following for their series, fallout is the only one on earth that managed to break through and gain a solid cult following in people's minds. the fallout tv show wasn't really that good, either. a solid 5/10 show, nothing more. perhaps 6 on a good day.
>>
>>719508973
the fallout guys apparently got lucky three time in a row with three different ips i give them solid 6/10 , if you ask me
>>
Dead thread dead ip

ive actually never seen anyone talk about Fallout 2 on youtube, it's always either 1 or New Vegas.

Fallout 2 was the Rick and Morty of pre Bethesda Fallout.

who was the Fallout youtuber that turned out to be a lolcow? SchizoElijah?

Old World Blues is worse than anything Bethesda has ever done.
>>
>>719506472
I think that the Bethesda devs did play fallout, but they only played fallout 2 and thus all their fallout games are just bad fallout 2 fanfics.

Fallout 2 adding the twist with the Enclave was great
Adding some Sleaze with New Reno, and the subplot about Myron and the Jet Antidote adds to the world building more than the followers of the apocalypse in 1

I cant quite put my finger on it but the game feels off. Mainly the world map feels cheap. Idk Im gonna play it a bit more but I dont like it so far. Also, it lags a lot on my machine

>Also, it lags a lot on my machine
Go back to 1998 you time traveling nerd, this is my dystopian future
>>
>>719508973
This is true. Fallout was never my thing back then, but before 3 even came out, friends would sometimes get on my case about how I had to play 1 and 2.
I eventually did play 1, but I didn't like it very much. When I think about giving it another shot, I feel like I'd rather try hard nova or 2400 AD again rather than do that. They definitely weren't for everybody.
>>
>>719506472
Nobody cares about this unc game series. The show is bussin tho
>>
>>719506472
Conversely, a lot of the lore and world-building, even quest design, that people love about NV takes after content in F2 (e.g. the Vault City/New Reno/NCR quest chain). Bethesda just chose the worst aspects of 2 to capitalize on.

I don't know what video you're talking about, but she was clearly intended to be the one "good" character that you were meant to trust and work with in comparison to the mutant freak and ghoul schlub.

I hate FNV and Fallout 4. Any chance I'll like these earlier games with their different gameplay?

You'll probably like the writing and world interactivity in 1 and 2

Always a chance. In a lot of ways Fallout and Fallout 2 are more immersive than the 3D games and most 3D rpgs in general.

I've already got them all free from EGS as well as Game Pass. Perhaps I'll check them out, as story and world is what I like most.

You're mad cuz I'm right. F2 starts out as an absolute joke with tribesmen and geckos that look like they belong in sword and sorcery, and culminates with toilet humour. New Reno were the only good part about that game, and the president was a cool character, but everything past that is just dogshit that felt like a mockery of what Fallout actually was.
>>
>>719530920
>and geckos that look like they belong in sword and sorcery
Nta but that's an odd statement, it's the us west coast desert of course there are lizards. I mean deathclaws look like they would be at home in a fantasy game too
>>
>>719530920
Fallout 2 should have done a better job of having your encino man character enter what would ultimately be a more advanced New Vegas setting. With much more rebuilt cities and infrastructure.
>>
>>719531015
Nah, deathclaws look gritty. Those stupid geckos are so glossy and cartoony I couldn't believe my eyes shit like this is in a Fallout game.
>>
>>719531118
Ah ok I guess I get what you mean. Guess my eyes just accepted it as the weird 90s 3d graphics shiny look
>>
>>719530920
Fallout 1 had literal orcs in it and this guy is complaining about geckos
Fallout purists will never make any sense, there's literally no consistency between any of the games
>>
>>719508973
100%. That and there's a lot of historical revision by falloutfags to make it sound like it was among the most popular games of it's time. It really wasn't, it was a niche (western rpg) within a niche (mid 90s PC gaming). You'd find way more Ultima, EotB, and Baldur's Gate fans back in the day than Fallout fans, to say nothing about console games. But Fallout had the hardcore cult fandom on its side that carried it into the 2000s. XCOM was kinda the same way.
>>
>>719531710
It still would've been nice if Bethesda didn't ruin the look with fo4
>>
>>719530920
it's incredible how a big part of San Francisco is just straight up real life references
>>
>>719532498
I honestly blame fallout 2 for Bethesda thinking they can do this shit, the fans being the other reason.
>>
>>719508973
>>719531964
Bullshit. Fallout broke incredible ground, especially when you compare it to the RPGs that existed shortly before it. There's a reason that the "classic" RPGs people still talk about and play go to Fallout and BG1 and mostly no further. Ultima by comparison is a weird curiosity.
>>
>>719533351
Fallout should get a lot of credit for being an rpg that dared to not be fantasy or conventional sci fi
>>
>>719533351
BG1 and BG2 are such different beasts i ended up dropping 2 midway through.
>>
>>719529395

>>
Play fallout sonora right now.
>>
>>719530920
The appeal of fallout has always been about seeing how the world has changed and how society has well begun to rebuild itself.with the mad max juvenile phase on its way out to be forgotten
>>
>>719506472
>But Bethesda did the most damage
Agreed: Bethesda should've left the series to rot and just created its own IP.
>>
>>719533351
>Fallout broke incredible ground, especially when you compare it to the RPGs that existed shortly before it.
I can tell you haven't played a single rpg that came before Fallout. Wasteland 1 is much more mechanically complex, it almost feels like a sandbox compared to F1-2 due to how much shit you could with it's world, thanks to it's based system that allowed to roll both attributes and skills for same tasks. You could also destroy every single door, even a plot important one, with any kind of explosives you've had; climb over mountains, and destroy walls. Hell, you could even fly a helicopter once, and it also had an appropriate skill for it.
>>
I wish more crpgs were structured like fallout. Theres an intended path that has a pretty natural progression but you're still free to go wherever you want.
I usually like to go through every area normally because I' a completions but just knowing I could go straight to Navarro or something if I felt like it makes the world feel so much more real.
>>
>>719533753
i wish more games used the targeting system.

it's fucked up how the only recent use of it i can think of is Owlcat's 40k: Dark Heresy game.
>>
>>719533753
And games like the Ultimas made that the standard for cRPGs of the time, whatever mr. assmad "fallout is the groundbreaker for everything!" back there thinks about it.
>>
>>719533884
all the way to Skyrim you can still feel the clear inspiration from Ultima, just like how you can still feel the clear inspiration from Wizardry in modern JRPGs.
>>
>>719533884
Yeah but Ultima is gay and lame. Theres a reason no one cares about it anymore.
>>
>>719533637
>it almost feels like a sandbox
Yeah. No shit. Grid-based sandbox with only the bare sketch of a plot was half the RPGs of the 80s. Like what you like. I'm not here to tell you Wasteland is a bad game, that's obviously not true. But again, there's a reason people generally don't go past Fallout and there was an almost total lack of CRPGs in the mid nineties.
>>
>>719534071
>agoo gaga im a faggot look at me
>>
>>719531710
Yeah the complaints about it being too sword and sorcery esque make no sense when Fallout took a bunch of tried and true fantasy RPG tropes and recontextualized them into a post nuclear sci-fi setting. The BoS are Paladin knights, Super Mutants are orcs, ghouls are undead, first area is a cave with rats, there's a literal thieves guild at one point, etc.
>>
>>719534076
>with only the bare sketch of a plot
Wasteland's story is a direct inspiration to Fallout 1. Except that instead of mutants and the Master, it had malfunctioning robots guided by a crazed Cochise AI originally designed to protect muricans from reds.
It might not be as serious or well-written, but it's definetely not a "bare sketch".
>>
>>719534343
That's a premise. Not a plot.
https://wasteland.protozoic.com/wasteland/wastedisk/paragraph.pdf
>>
>>719534324
Except that in Fallout 1 all of it was organic and tasteful and 2 was literally a fucking joke, and a rather bad one.

>>719534569
You do relize that a lot of these paragraphs are a spoof, because some of them are not even appearing in game, and exist solely to misguide retards who read more than the game tells them too? Judging game's story by reading it one after one like that is dumb. You also should consider a Survival Guide hintbook, it had a fair bit of game's story as well, written in first person.
