So are this game and Cyberpunk actually "good now"? I thought claiming that shitty games were somehow fixed was just a marketing stunt.
>>
>>719513141
No, they’re not “good”. Just fixed as you said. So, they’re mediocre at best
>>
>>719513141
Cyberpunk is still bad because its Nightcity: Florida Edition.

NMS is what it is at launch, an exploration game, that concept is basic as shit and lots of people find it boring, lots find it fun. Whether you like the idea of just flying between planets to see things you haven't seen before is a brain rot you either have or don't. But they have updated every aspect of the game to make it better including the diversity of shit you can see when exploring.
>>
>>719512987
god damn that picture encapsulates everything wrong with white men
>>
>>719513130
My nutsack would be mega chafed about that if they didn't keep adding a shitton of free content and fixing bugs. If the game was stagnant since launch I'd expect it to be like $10 or less. As of right now, $60 is a fair deal, was a total rip at launch tho. The Worlds updates and now Voyager update has pushed it way over the line for me into great territory.
>B-b-but you just shoot rock and get resource!
Explore a lot more, do more varied shit, fill out some quests. There's base building and other stuff but there's also colony management, storylines, lore delving (shitty desu), lots of upgrades for gear in a psuedo loot system. A bunch of vehicles, space combat, artifacts, archeology stuff for more base decorations.
At the start it's easy to fall into the loop of mine, craft, repeat, and there's plenty of jank here and there. But on the whole, I think it's worthwhile enough and unique that a game like this even exists. Not for everyone, but my crippling and terminal autism makes me like it.

Derelict freighters seem decently lucrative
Going to planets with salvageable scrap yields good as well, can just shoot the scrap from your ship no need to land
Get a good scanner and just scan shit can pay upwards of 10k per scan
>>
>>719518372
>10k
Go to a multi tool mod merchant and look for s class scanner mod. Reload the game and buy another. Reload again and buy the last one. Enjoy over 100k a scan. Want to move fast? Do the same but at an exosuit mod vendor and look for movement modual s class. Melee then jetpack during melee animation.

>game is finally fixed 9 years after release
We are a stagnant culture. In 1997, a game released in 1995 was considered old and outdated and you'd be a sucker for not playing the hottest thing on the market. When I built my first budget gaming PC in 2007, I installed Jedi Knight II because it was an "old" game that it could run but I felt embarrassed about it since Crysis was coming out.

Now here we are in 2025 and a game nearly a decade old is not only still full price, but drawing in 100k players. What the fuck man, it's like time stopped progressing in 2010.

You are just extremely insecure.

People are still playing Diablo 2/Tetris/AOE2/pacman/etc.

I appreciate that these niggas are still going strong strong with updates after being a laughing stock almost a decade ago, they probably got a good few people genuinely liking their game and I believe they now have most of the features promised originally. But they also seemingly pioneered this model where publishers and developers are ultimately lowering the resting equilibrium by releasing dogshit on release and then maybe patching up to a milquetoast state at best.

This except don’t bother making a trade route between the same 3-4 systems because it takes time for the economies to restock/resettle prices, and frankly it’s boring to stick around the same handful of systems

Bake trading into your exploration. A nexus mission brought you to a random mercantile system? Take some extra missions from the space station, do them while exploring, drop by a trade depot to load your freighter with all the goods, get your missions done, warp to a materials processing system, grab some missions, stop by the trade depot, so on and so forth.

The ones who pioneered this are all of the popular as fuck eternal early access indie games that you fuckers praise the fuck out of. Games that release barebones as fuck and take a decade to finally release (with missing features that might get added later) while cranking up the price every update.
NMS got utterly trashed for years, and most of said praise is pretty recent. Hell, with the example of CP2077, people are only really praising their comeback because of the fucking anime.

Yep, that's basically the whole game. There's some dishonest faggots trying to claim its a "make your own fun" kind of game, but there's not much of anything to do without a fair amount of grinding FIRST, all of which pretty much revolve around shooting rocks or mining blobs. Also finding all the fun planets that don't look like boring shit is gatekept by 4 tiers of grinding for hyperdrives, one of which is locked behind the end of the storyline.
I had some fun. Mainly the honeymoon phase and basebuilding. I wouldn't recommend it.

NMS eventually became what they promised, even though what they promised wasn't actually that impressive or interesting. Cyberpunk never became more than a glorified Far Cry game. The bugs were the least of its problems, put people pretend it's really good now, even though it's still mechanically a shallow mess.
>>
>>719512987
>>719514757
There's been no case of a redemption arc like it actually. Every time there's been a game that promised to deliver something in which it didn't, 99% of the time the developers did nothing but just took the money and then run off. We've seen pic rel happen quite a few times in gaming, but at no point did anyone try to improve what state it was in, but also just put in content that wasn't even originally advertised and created a far bigger scope. NMS is truly something to marvel at in that sense. Some people can nitpick about what the point of the game is, but there's clearly something to do in it. Opposed to the release of nothing to do. In that sense it's now met how it was advertised in most regards.

That being said it probably took until 2022-2023ish to get there. People were amazed by just doing some basic work on it way too early in that i thought people were still too overly forgiving towards it from my perspective. Even if Hello Games had still done something practically no one did. It's hard to be cynical towards how it turned out.

The game sucks but they added additional grinding mechanics to try to hide how much it sucks. Like now you can build bases on planets that don't actually have any purpose because your freighter can just do everything a planetside base can do. They added ship customization but it's basically just swapping a couple parts on your ship and you've got to grind crashed ships and pray to the RNG God that they have the part you want. They added corvettes which are fully customizable ships but building a corvette is buggy as shit. Sometimes parts will just randomly disappear from your inventory and you need to buy them again. Also getting parts aside from the basic parts is basically done through a trade offer RNG system. But hey, if you build a corvette you can do space walks. Like you can exit your ship and float around in space in nothing but your suit. Except there's nothing to do in space and it quickly becomes apparent that they didn't really think the whole space walk thing through because if you try to do something like exit your corvette near your freighter and try to enter your freighter via space walk you'll just clip into the freighter's model and possibly get stuck. Haven't tried it with a space station but I'd imagine the same exact thing would happen.

Didn't improve anything. Exploring planets still sucks. The issue with planets was and still is that there's nothing to fucking to do on them except zap rocks and scan a few plants, animals, and rocks. That's still the case. Like I said, it's just a meaningless change to fool retards like you into thinking they're fixing the game when they're not.
>corvettes
Shit's so half finished it's not even funny. Building a corvette is a fucking nightmare due to the fact that parts will just randomly disappear from your inventory due to how the parts' rotations are saved or some shit and there's a bug that can cause your entire corvette to disappear altogether.
I'll be generous though and give you a C- for effort though.

I don't understand why people play it. The game is still pretty mid. It lacks any sembalnce of balance and progression. Start before you even get to build anything is way too long, you have to spend time going around stupid random POIs digging in random points to unlock different coloured walls, fix pods to get your inventory space up or random bases to even unlock crafting recipes which are rudimentary and you can buy those resources anyway, grind alien interactions to learn the languages.
I'm not entirely sure what is supposed to be fun about that game. It's not a very good builder, combat ground and space sucks and exploration is shit because it's randomly generated things spaced out too far to walk. I suppose some gimmick planets look fun on screenshots

>The game sucks.
i played it for the first time last year after hearing about all the updates and it was okay. i was underwhelmed. some of the gameplay loops were fun like the econ and the resources and crafting but the exploration is really weak which really sucks for a space exploration game. you feel more terrain variety in an hour of minecraft. the planets don't feel distinctive enough, it's mostly just different colors and resources.
still i think it's cool that they supported the game so much for so long.
>>
>>719518949
>Derelict freighters are the closest they have gotten.
It still cracks me up how they hyped derelicts up to be like super dangerous ships to explore and how dying in them is super serious because then that derelict ship is gone forever.
Except it's basically impossible to die in them. Yeah your environmental protection drains faster but so what? You've basically got hundreds or even thousands of sodium on you at all times plus there's canisters of sodium just floating all over the derelicts. You really don't even need to bother with the heaters throughout the derelicts. Just pop some of your nigh endless supply of sodium when your environmental protection gets low. Also literally none of the threats on derelicts actually pose any threats. Turrets? Just peekaboo them to death. Egg sacs? Just shoot the damn things and then shoot the babies that pop out of them. They deal tickle damage and die in a couple hits so sneaking around egg sacs is pointless. Jellyfish? Just shoot them or ignore them. They can't hurt you unless you touch them and they just drift around slowly and aimlessly so the only way to get damaged by them is to deliberately get damaged by them.

You can ride in a corvette together. The problem is that building a corvette is a nightmare. Basically corvette building is bugged and parts will randomly disappear from your inventory if you add and then remove them. Expect to buy a thunderbird living compartment four times just to place one.
>>
>>719539926
the reason this happens is because every time you rotate a piece it becomes a 'different piece' in inventory and wont stack anymore, and doesnt show up in piece picker while building
however
you can get around this by pressing E while aiming an existing piece to 'duplicate' it. this WILL pull from the 'bugged' items

>even if you like him
idk, he overhyped the game bigtime but it's nice to release 10 years of free expansions especially when you have zero obligation to do so. especially when you have reasons not to do so, like becoming a multimillionaire overnight and everyone publicly vocally hating on you.

>you have to admit it's a terrible precedent and a reason gamers keep getting fucked over.
he was wrong to overhype the game but imo it's more gamers' fault for preordering and buying on launch instead of waiting for real information. nobody forced them to buy the game. they chose to do it.

Oh he's got plenty of obligation to do so. For one thing, NMS tarnished the ever living shit out of Hello Games' name and they've got their upcoming game LNF coming up. Got to rebuild their reputation so that it's not immediately dead on arrival. Then there's the fact that Sean's lies and NMS release were such a shit show the devs were actually receiving death threats. I'd imagine the other developers weren't too happy about that which is some pretty strong motivation for him not to just take the money and run. Also I'd imagine Sony wasn't too pleased with how the game turned out. They made a big show of it at E3 after all. If he'd just pocketed his earnings and left shit as is they probably would have come for his ass.

NMS has been in a very odd situation since its launch. I was mostly frustrated each time I tried to engage with it. I’ll spare you the essay and just say this:
They had a bad start and wanted to redeem themselves, so they started throwing things at the wall to see what stuck. The problem is, they never stopped, and what was already stuck just crusted over and was never touched again. So now you’ve got a massive pile of stuff on the wall for free, and every fan points at it and says, “Look at this huge pile of content you can play!” Sure, you can’t deny it, but that doesn’t make it less of a pile.

In less crude terms: the game has random content attached to it, but nothing truly connects in a meaningful way. Systems were implemented but never expanded, refined, or integrated. The whole automation update they released early on is still the same half-baked system it was at launch, thrown in mostly because Factorio-style games were gaining traction.

Overall, the things you can do might be worth its $20–100 price, but it’s frustrating to see so much poured into it without meaningful reworks, interconnection, or any clear plan.

I’d even bet two copies of NMS that they’ll barely touch modular ships, and half of the old content won’t interact with them at all. I’d be genuinely surprised if, for example, we got a larger landing platform in bases to actually park a frigate there.

P.S. Yes this was the short version.
>>
>>719540274
It’s a pile of literal shit they compiled over 9 years. It has shallow, walled-off mechanics that barely touch each other or result in basically the same outcome.

Trade can be done, yes, but with dedicated trade commodities that have no other usage. You could trade crafting materials or base resources, but that’s not netting you profit.
There is no trucking, as any traveling is done by semi-loading screens to get you everywhere quicker. It’s basically Starfield, but you can press escape anytime and marvel at the emptiness.

Travel for trade is also literally circumvented by just porting from station to station and selling everything until the market runs dry. Then you need to look for another random star system with a special tag that dictates what they need and sell, creating a three-step loop of different demand producers.

Bounty hunting is tied to quests, so yes, you can do it — but it’s all bare bones. There aren’t really any intricate damage or weapon mechanics. Damage is damage, and that’s it as far as I know.

Exploring is also kinda meaningless. Each planet has some attributes, like three minerals, and some have oddities increasing or enabling the spawn of certain items.
Most items boil down to “worth money, can sell.” Some are collectible for the sake of collection, others are outright gateways to upgrades and become worthless afterward.
The most effective way to negate 99% of the game systems is to find a planet with a certain base resource that’s worth the most, build a clunky mining system where you just place a “drill” in mid-air above a valid “zone” and connect them with literal light beams. Then you just wait until your storage is full — which, by the way, is basically a three-building setup: power (solar, generators, whatever), the drills, storage, that’s it. Sell off your mined resources and have infinite money. Congrats, the game is solved.

no but you can fly around galaxies and star systems and visit planets and space stations. flying around was always fun. there are also terrestrial vehicles like buggies which are fun too. planets are mostly empty though. sometimes i saw some cool structures or settlements but a lot of them were copy paste. some of them have npcs walking around and flying ships in and out of the area which was kinda cool. it's also kinda cool how you can go around the whole planet. the lighting changes too. looks nice and can be fun but again the planets are mostly empty.
>Does it have factions i can interact with?
there are different factions and you have to "learn how to speak their language" to communicate, which encourages you to explore more and find more of them to learn their language. interaction choices were minimal from what i remember.
>Can i become a space cowboy and hunt down bandits for bounty?
i remember there were proc gen missions for clearing out pirates or robots in specific places. i don't think i saw any bounty hunting mission though.
>Can i become a space trucker and deliver cargo from one space station to another?
yes. piloting the ships and doing deliveries was a fun part of the game. but i don't know if you can have a fleet of freighters for the trucking. i just did it with my one ship.
>Can i become a mercenary and work with one of the factions while they wage war?
no. at least i'm pretty sure you can't. i didn't get far with the faction stuff but it didn't seem to me like that would be a thing.

it's still just worse minecraft
>ALL npcs are glorified word stones
>still only 2 enemy types
>space combat is still just hold S and fire
>literally no new building materials added in 5+ years, still just the same look as subnautica bases
>all randomly generated animals look the same
>>
>demo shows beautiful cohesive planets with huge dinosaurs interacting with foliage and each other
>released game has a garish random number generator planet with autism potato head creatures with the gripping gameplay of shooting rocks

This game is far more boring that it has any right to be.
Is it
>over reliance on RNG for "progression"
Could be, but what else could they use to pad the game out and would it *really* make much more difference?
>tie progression (ship upgrades, item/suit upgrades ect) to some faction rep. fex put space weapon upgrades behind pirate reputation or something
Cool but this is still shit because grinding rep is boring af and this system is even more limiting than the RNG one
>Achually...
The whole game is kinda boring. Even pretending that the shoot lazer into rock part doesn't matter (it does) all the combat is snore fests and the space combat is the worst I have ever seen.
no none of the custom settings will fix this.
>but even worse
exploration is fucking boring
It's all just RNG generated, withing safe limits mind you, gotta keep those hands inside the ride at all times afteral, same looking planets that after seeing 20 or so they all start to blend together.

Bros... How do we fix NMS?

Cyberpunk plays better but the promises of old school RPG went unfulfilled and its just little bit smoother than the release version. NMS has a lot of content added and they made the game they wanted to make. Dont really like either of those games but cyberpunk is good for 1 playthrough and nms is good if you like wandering and exploring virtual landscapes and doing whatever the fuck you want
>>
>>719512987
This game has exactly the same problem as Sea of Thieves which is there was never any game at the center of it all so the developers kept adding arbitrary mechanics and arbitrary collectathons and arbitrary currencies to cover that fact up, but there's still no game there. It's more of a pitch for a video game than it is a video game.

This worth it on sw2 for like 15 bucks? I really just wanna explore and fuck around in space. Base building and other minecraft ass shit like that doesn't do anything for me.
>>
>>719545878
>I really just wanna explore and fuck around in space.
15 bucks? yes, maybe. depends what you're expecting. don't expect to see cities or a ton of buildings on planets. if you'd be satisfied without them then i say go for it.
check out these screenshots from one of the latest updates.
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/275850/view/631167270993789626 planets also have day night cycles depending on your location on the planet and you can see other planets and stars and shit in the sky. there's not a ton to do on the planets especially if you don't give a shit about base building, but you can still drive around or run around or fly your ship around which are fun.
>>
>>719545652
I wish the devs tried to make NMS2, with mechanics from NMS, but also with a game.

dont make it so you can only use the spaceship 4 times before you need to refuel it(you have to refuel it in other ways too), give the player access to a scooter or some kind of mobility improvement within the first ~2 hours holy shit the game is so slow
>>
>>719540807
they have repeatedly revisited much of the content
most obvious was base building. At first you could only build in designated areas. Later literally anywhere - but only a few bases. Now functionally unlimited.
That is certainly one of the bigger, but underwater exploration and building was launched years back. In worlds they dramatically expanded underwater biomes.
Outlaw systems.
Settlements.
All of it has not only been introduced, but revised. Sometimes repeatedly.

What you're saying simply isn't the case.

What you SHOULD say is that despite all of the work they have put into ANY of these systems - whether by introduction or revision - it is all still very shallow in its constituent parts.
>>
>>719546998
Well you are right. They did re-touch some parts but they still remain horrendously shallow and unconnected in any form or coherence.
>>
>>719514757
So basically they released very bare-bones game (while lying about some features being present) and now the slowly trying to finish it?
Where's the redemption part?
>>
>>719514827
For me the problem isn't that there's no purpose, it's that none of the games systems have any depth or interesting gameplay to them. Everything is just draging icons around in the ugly inventory screen or holding E.

>>
>>719546918
You can get a car but you kidna have to know to beeline it, tech tree is semi-hidden and you have to go to the spaceball to see it, you still need to grind caches because it's a lot of tech points and until you gacha a bunch of speed mods it's kinda slow anyway. Also you can only use it on a planet you have a carport on and I think there's a tech that allows it from anywhere but much deeper in.
The driving experience is not great either.
