BS2 plays faster due to being a solo romp, and outside gameplay also feels a lot more tonally consistent from the word go with a better hook and interesting areas, whereas the first game starts out by throwing you into a forest filled with random premade assets and the silly Souls homages are extremely obvious. Even H-scene writing is improved and helps flesh out the protagonist better. BS2 is also much more difficult overall. If there's one consistent negative thing about both games it's the questionable balancing, and fights often devolving into one side or the other getting curbstombed on the first turn of combat depending on which level you happen to trigger the encounter.
I got to floor 900 in the chaos dungeon before I got Black Slash. I think this shit singlehandedly extended my game time by 5-6 hours.
