How bad is it for gaming?
>>
Why you want 75% of your games work?

and not 100%? (windows)
>>
sometimes its good, other times its bad.
>>
>>719524954
Depends on what you're playing. Better than windows for most of the games I'm playing, really sucks for one of them (EFT)
>>
>>719524954
The dualshock 3 isnt great for pc gaming. Its easier to use microshit/chinkshit with xinput.

Unless you swap to linux where the drivers are already in the kernel. Using old/niche controllers is much simpler on linux. As a bonus the switch pro controller will sometimes not work to piss off the tendies and send them back to their containment console
>>
which games don't work on linux?
>>

nta but i don't need to play every pc game in existence, not like modern windows can do that anyway since they need to emulate dos

Fortnite

Battlefield 2042
Apex Legends
League of Legends
Valorant
Rainbow Six Seige

I get a lot more stutters in Linux but I'm tired of dealing with Microsoft changing shit without consent all the time so it do be like that I guess

Option on.
Which, sort of amusingly means technically those games work perfectly fine on linux too.
They're just "designed" to ban linux users.

I know this is a bait thread but I'll complain here anyway
until recently linux was actually easier for playing old windows games without any compatability issues

But wine 10 has brought in this dogshit wow64 mode as standard and now some 32 bit only games dont work properly because it doesnt detect that theyre 32bit

Anyone else had this issue? Homm3 is the most recent one I had problems with
>>

Works fine for literally everything that isn't a modern multiplayer game with kernel level anti-cheat.
Battlefield 6, Anything Riot, Destiny 2, that kind of shit.

I need to find a brand new Sony Dualshock 2 controller from a reputable outle before the last one I got several years ago wears out from daily use.

Please help me. They've become so rare and expensive, and used ones always feel wrong with loose or mushy buttons. /v/ please, I can't game without my Dualshock 2, it's all I know. I'm serious, please
>>
>>719524954
They made it gay to use Linux.
>>
>>719526679
The funny thing is half of these games worked on linux for years, but then they decided they were going to make even more intrusive malware "anti-cheat" programs that wouldn't work on linux. Just imagine what type of awful shit these programs are doing to people's computers. It's not like it's impossible to make spyware for linux but these companies want full access to everything at the hardware level.

You should just use something like lutris where you can pick and choose which versions of wine you want to run for each game.
>>
>>719528124
I feel nervous dropping that much money on "like new" because the one time I did it, I got a square button with a slight stick to it. Just enough that I always noticed it and it drove me crazy. Then I wound up spending 90 bucks on a brand new one that happened to be on Amazon and it worked great for many many years. But they never last forever, not with the amount of use I put into them. I fear ky current one might start having problems soon
>just take it apart and clean it
Every time I try that I make things way worse. Why can't sony just make more of them?!
>>
>>719527501
Freetards really should just stick to stuff like ffmpeg
>>
I was having an issue on Windows where certain games would cause my screen to turn black, my drivers to shit themselves, all inputs to lock up and force me to hard reset the PC. Sound would still work for a little bit though. Tried a bunch of fixes but couldn't find anything that worked nor could I nail the exact problem.

Never had this problem again after I switched to Linux.

>>

>>
>>719524954
Try as I might I just can't modded Skyrim to work on it. I might be retarded, but it is one of the reasons I dual boot Windows and Linux, which really just means 99% of the time I'm on Windows
I didn't really have any issues with any other games I tried though, unless I wanted to mod, but even then things usually worked without a hitch
>>
>>719526687
If you want windows that doesnt constantly change, install w10 iot enterprise ltsc, it's good until 2032
>>
>>719524954
it's fine so long as you don't really care about multiplayer games
>>

https://www.protondb.com/
You can answer that question yourself.
>>
>>719527989
Why not buy good third party controller instead? Third party controllers are now better than first party, they're not only drift free but the tech itself is also better, and so is battery life (especially against dualsense, 8hour ds vs 20+ hour on 3rd party)
>>
>>719528756
Based, I'm taking the tape off my webcam and aiming it right at my crotch so bill gates can watch.
>>
>>719528931
Issue with protondb is how lot of games have bunch of mouthbreating retards that can't troubleshoot properly or just tick everything and complain that don't work instead of just setting up launch options.

Big issue comes from newer games not older ones.
>>
>>719529047
I'm extremely skeptical about wireless and I really, really like the form factor and balance of the dualshock 2. But in an attempt to be reasonable and not terminally autistic: What is the best third party controller that's very similar to a dualshock? Or any other controller that's just like the DS2 really, since I have to face facts, they will only get harder to find in perfect condition
>>
>>719529047
I agree with the autistic anon
Genuine Dualshock 2 is one of the most comfortable controllers and modern first/third party products feel like shit compared to it.
>>
>>719529294
>I'm extremely skeptical about wireless
It's only really a problem if you wanna be able to use said controller on PS5 or xbox series console, but if it's for switch/2 or PC usage (and android) then there is no problem. Look a third party design you like (4v8 d-pad) , symmetrical (ps style) vs assymetrical (xbox) also depends on what game you play/preferences. I honestly don't think you can go wrong if you spend some time looking controller vids, researching different third party controllers available etc.

>What is the best third party controller that's very similar to a dualshock
my personal opinion, Gamesir's Tarantula Pro (not many ps style controllers to begin with, though). Same company's T3s looks cute also (sadly don't have one, yet?) and if you want wired/cheaper then their Tegenaria Lite is killer. Though if you want a slightly different take on PS style symmetrical controller (while waiting for gamesir to refresh the Tarantula Pro with new design/tech, anywhere late this year or early next year), you could also experiment with the new 8BitDo Pro 3, it's not quite as comfortable as Tarantula Pro, but it too gets the job done.

>>719529506
I personally haven't tried the PS5 style controller, and haven't played around with many of the 1st party controllers (other than switch pro 1 and 2). I think it's true there might be many 3rd party controllers that might "not make the cut", but you have to try eye for one that has the aesthetics you like, and also good plastic/materials.. like maybe the pattern/paint needs to look good, or maybe you want rubber for some reason. Generally speaking I don't think you can go too wrong if you buy controller from 8bitdo, gamesir or flydigi vader pro
>>
>>719527989
>>719528328
If you're absolutely set on using hardware that old, you'd better put in the effort to learn to repair properly. That's the only way to ensure you'll still have one to use.

>>719529294
I don't think anything copies the ds1-3 form factor, and pressure sensitive buttons are nearly nonexistent. If you're married to the DS2 feel I don't think you'll find anything that compares.

If you're willing to try third party, Gulikit Elves 2 keeps symmetrical layout with Saturn form factor, which is probably as close as you'll get. Gamesir Tegenaria Lite is more like a DS4, but wired and very cheap.
>>
>>719529259
>Big issue comes from newer games not older ones.
The first old game I looked up required you to convert audio files to have any dialogue in the game. It probably has fewer issues with modern games if anything, barring anti-cheat stuff.
>>
>>719529740
vader 4 pro is great and works great on linux (as long as you make the file to give it permissions for dinput) but vader 5 pro is coming out in a couple months with 2 extra shoulder buttons on top and either hall or tmr joysticks.

If you wanna use windows, why not use windows 10 enterprise iot ltsc? That one has far less spying and telemetry than win 11, and its end date is 2032.

People have said it a few times already, but basically:

Windows:
-All modern games will work without too much hassle. On linux, sometimes you need to wait for a new proton update to make newer games bootable or playable without crashing or glitching.
-Easy to double click and install mods and other applications.
-Multiplayer games with anticheat work
-Nvidia GPUs work better with Windows, you get better performance overall, higher 1%s
-Raytracing works better and faster, some newer games are forcing some level of raytracing nowadays.
-New technology like Smooth Motion only works on Windows first, then linux gets it a few months later, but even then it's not something that will always work. This is particularly important for emulators as you can practically double your FPS on things like Ryujinx or Yuzu.

Linux:
-CPU intensive games tend to get a slight edge but 99% of the time you get the same or some fps less than Windows.
-Emulators will work slightly faster, but with smooth motion it doesn't matter anymore.
-You get to customize everything about the OS like colors and how the windows look and how the animations work and you can add funny fonts, etc.

I searched for freelancer... got no result for the game i was looking for

swat 4 .. same thing, nowhere to be seen

So basically if I want the linux library I can just use my existing switch 2? I'm good, thanks
>>
>>719530076
It IS the fault of linux. They should suck it up and include proprietary codecs.
>>
>>719524954
Pretty good.
>>719525002
Windows doesn't even have 100% compatibility SAR.
>>719528931
>>719531610
A wangblowsdb would look just as bad, a lot of older games needed mods to work back then, let alone now.
>>719532240
They can't really suck it up if they need to license those proprietary codecs from someone like Microsoft who will just say no.
