What's the best controller for 2d games?
I've never had a good experience with 8BitDo. It's always loud and clicky, and the "HD" rumble is always really noisy. But 8BitDo is what I see everyone suggest.

And PS5 controllers a good option?
>>
Dualsense is okay. Diagonals on my BDM-010 aren't easy enough for me to recommend it for fightan or shmups, but it's good for most use cases. I haven't used a quieter controller, so if you hate loud and clicky it's a good choice regardless. Supposedly DS4 has a better d-pad, but I haven't had them side by side for comparison.

Gulikit Elves 2 d-pad is great and will serve you well for anything, from platforming to bullet hell to soulslike claw grip. Most Saturn style or mechanical d-pads will fit the bill so long as you're fine with potential quirks.

>Gulikit Elves 2
This actually looks pretty nice. Like exactly what I watch.
Was planning on using it for platforms like Silksong.

Thanks for the suggestion. I appreciate it.
>>
i still use my original dualshock 2 and i will continue to do so until it breaks

>What's the best controller for 2d games?
I think some disc shape, xbox series style d-pad.. I call them S/X d-pad (short for series S/X)
>>
>>719531540
My only issue with play station controllers is that no other games use the Square, Triangle, Circle button formatting.
>>
>>719531658
Those are good for games with diagonal movement.
But it really just gets in the way for games that are mostly platformers.
>>
>>719530836
8bitdo's m30 controller is pretty good and cheap. No rumble or clicky buttons
>>
>>719531792
I think most games benefit from being able to do diagonals more, than one that blocks diagonals too much. There exist controllers that block diagonals, but unless you're constantly playing only games where you want to avoid them, their d-pads get boring really quick

Does yours feel like a cheap piece of shit? I have a bluetooth one that feels perfect and a 2.4ghz one that feels like a dollar store toy

clear plastic always feels cheap, but it's heft and build actually feels nice on the hand. I have the wired one too, but a 7 foot cable was just annoying. they both feel pretty much similar to me, but im not nitpicky, and I grew up using dollar tree controllers, so

I've seen lots of people say 8bitDo controllers die after like 6 months of regular use.
>>
>>719530836
Isn't this pretty much the best one?
>>
>It's always loud and clicky,
Old retro controllers ARE loud and clicky, SN30 Pro and 8bitdo Pro 2 and Pro 3 are only marginally louder than a real SNES controller on button presses
>>
i wish you could go to like a gamestop or something and try out 3rd party controllers to see how it feels, i dont want to spend 50 bucks on a controller only to not like it and never use it
>>
>>719532640
I fucking hated this thing. Awful diagonals on the dpad, at least for platformers. Completely failed my basic test of "can you effortlessly move forward and pogo/upward slash in hollow knight with it"

It's so beautiful I want to buy one just to have it
>>
>>719533152
Why does controller need to be loud and clicky? Ultimate 2 is quieter than Pro 3, why did 8bitdo want to make Pro 3 louder than Ultimate 2? I don't understand
>>
>>719533048
Probably if you use it like a spastic it will.
>>
>>719532680
My cheap feeling one is the white one and my good feeling one is a black transparent one. It's a shame because they never made the white one in bluetooth
>>
>>719532827
I will never buy any modular controller or anything like this. It just seems like a ticking timebomb and probably not as well put together as something thats not modular
>>
>>719533152
when people say clicky they mean microswitches instead of rubber pads
think a dsi or xbone d-pad
>>
>>719533193
Do it. It's like $25 for a 2.4ghz and $30 for bluetooth

Was good enough for Panetheon 5 so probably will be good enough for skong
>>
>>719533152
I guess it's not really THAT sound.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/iZFSDTDLih0

But it's still way worse than the Switch 2 Pro controller. Which is probably my favorite controller ever.
>>
>>719533026
They recreated the micro switches on the dpad. If you like clicky shit, this is a must
>>
>>719533026
does this actually use micro switches or just normal generic analog stick? coz that would feel horrendous if it's analog
>>
>>719533247
This turtle beach is cool af, I'd probably buy one if it had support for n. switch
>>
>>719533307
I bought the Ultimate 1 right before they released the Ultimate 2. I still use it but sometimes I wonder if I should get the 2nd version.
>>
>>719533350
It has clicky micro switches like the original
>>
>>719533307
8Bitdo Ultimate is comfy af ergonomically, and those leds are also really cool and well implemented
>>
>>719533239
>My cheap feeling one is the white one
is that the 7 dollar ones from aliexpress? every time I tried to order one, my order gets cancelled.
>>
>>719533374
It's a comfy upgrade. I had my Ulti 1 basically since it came out and it endured hundreds of hours between release and Ult 2 coming out so I bit the bullet. If yours is still that fresh you should just wait for a sale or wait for them to come out with some cool colors
>>
>>719533203
not that anon but I think it's typically true the more you feel a click, the more you will hear it, and vice versa. You want the membrane thingy to actuate instantly and decisively and that causes a vibration that's going to get transmitted to the air. I guess you could insulate or block the sound after that somehow? But it's a button with a thin plastic cap, what are you going to do. But the easiest way to make it quiet is to just make more mushy.
>>
>>719533374
Check some youtube review/comparison, from what I remember it wasn't probably that much stuff that's new
>>
>>719533350
It actually is a microswitch "analog stick" like the original SNK controller.
>>
>>719533558
I don't know if it's mushyness or because the face buttons aren't flat, but I kinda prefer the face buttons on both ultimate 2 and tarantula pro, than the ones on 8bit Pro 3 which are flat and more clicky
>>
>>719533448
It's >>719532236 but in white. It was more than $7. Can't remember how much
>>
>>
>>719530836
Sega Saturn controllers have the best dpads.
The next best thing are found on Hori controllers.

None of the big 3 are good at all (Nintendo, Sony, M$)

Reminder 8BitDo Pro 3 supports Steam Input in D-Input mode on the controller. Meaning you can customize your extra buttons. Even Pro 3 has it but it's only for back buttons.

so convenient

This is also good for just 2D games only, but if you are doing more than 2D games, I would go with a Pro 3.

How are the ergonomics on this? Do your hands ever cramp after holding it for a while?
>>
>>719535094
This kind of thing is obviously a commute or backpack controller and handles benefit 2d games as much as 3d ones for general use. If you want nostalgia factor you might as well get a snes replica
>>
>>719531731
>My only issue is that I am severely retarded
>>
>>719533048
I've had mine for at least three years, and my only complaint is that the software for remapping buttons is SO shit that it actually crashed and bluescreened my computer twice.
>>
>>719537094
Irony. Considering you're either retarded, a phone poster, or both. Because you can't even format greentext correctly.
