Worse position for who? They both print money and will continue to do so. Maybe a bit more of the market share actively calls out Pokemon, but not in so much as it has ever affected sales. So as for their positions as active, ongoing series, that's ensured. For the consumer? You guess is as good as mine, both franchises fucking suck right now.
I don't know but Zelda really needs to change up its aesthetic already. Counting trailers, we've had BOTW style since 2014 making it 11 years and counting and the next game could well be another 4 years off

Zelda cornered itself with the open world meme, the OoT/ALttP formula was more viable and had much more longevity, the important part was the dungeons and story so as long as you could come up with 8 dungeons, an overworld and a gimmick to make it interesting you had a game. With open world, especially the way BotW did it it's much harder to come up with a sequel, if you make a new map but keep the structure and core gameplay, even if you add gimmicks to it it's still a rehash because fundamentally you're still clearing Bokoblin camps and doing the same shrine puzzles in a giant map filled with nothing but shrines and korok seeds.

Emerald made it better but it's usually seen as a step back from gen 2.Gen 4 was disliked on release because D/P sucked dick but Platinum fixed it and HG/SS were excellent so overall opinion is positive.Gen 5 was liked since day 1 because of how big of a step up it was in terms of scope and narrative, Pokemon finally became a proper RPG. Gen 6 and forward were always dunked on and opinions aren't changing anytime soon. One exception is LGP/LGE, gen 8 and 9 and especially that godawful gen 4 remake retroactively made people warm up to them. I think people also understand that it was a spin off trying something different in retrospect rather than the latest Pokemon game on the latest Nintendo console.
