Games you were hyped for the most that let you down.
>>719539927They leaned too much on cartoony feel for my taste. Like RA2 was pulpy and no so realistic as well but overdone it with RA3.
>>719540203yeah, everything that made RA2 cool was absent here, also chink faction, fuck that
>>719539839This and Command & Conquer 4
they actually pulled it from the stores because they were too embarrassed to sell it
>>719540453First time I even hear about this game. Is this Warhammer 40k?
>>719540545yup
Massive waste of potential.
>>719540562Weird that it doesn't have name of the universe in the title. From what I saw it looks like a basic action game with Batman-like combat.
>>719540729Honestly odd that more platformers don't have character creator. Seems like a no-brainer to me.
>>719540770pretty much, there are some investigative aspects of it and a heavy narrative as it follows the book it was based on pretty closely it is just let down by a developer that promised way more than they were capable of delivering
>>719540921I dont care about that. We could of had another Sonic game on the same level of seriousness as Adventure 2 but instead we get a bunch of nonsense.
>>719539839Spore, no contest.
Fucking HIV
>>719541173I'm yet to play it, why people shit on it so badly? There must be something good in that game
Starcraft 2
>>719541215there is, the first 5 minutes you play itafter that it is all downhill
>>719541215There are entire documentaries about the disappointment of Spore on youtube.
>>719541215For me its good until you start village mode
I actually bought the physical copy at the premiere. I didn't finish any map.
>>719541618>>719541461>>719541254Thanks, I will try it out one day
>>719541208NWC and the series were doomed anyway no matter what NWC would do because of 3DO budgetary issues.
>>719542048I dont think that reasoning would make me less angry as kid
Buggy mess with massive empty map that plays nothing like the previous games. I never finished it even tho I beat every other PB's game with the exception of Risen 2 and Elex 2
>>719542290Honestly as a kid at first I was mindblow over how neutral creatures can now move on the world map and how you can have army without hero and hero without army. I wouldn't say the amazement lastest long tho.
>>719542684AoW did that a couple years before I swear you HoMMfags (more like HoMO) are so fucking sheltered
>>719539839After the Bieber reboot, I look at DMC4 more positively. But man I hated it back then
>>719539839>ITT:Personal biggest disappointmentsAll modern games/thead
>>719544212You have to have some expectations to be disappointed.
>>719543801I didn't say Homm4 was the first strategic game that ever did this so I don't know what's your issue. It still remains that these changes were revolutionary, although not necessarily positive, for the series.
>>719542561Same.What a piece of trash.
>>719541208I'm still upset canonically everything from Fortress with the exception of a couple human heroes and hydras got destroyed. I'm still upset we never got another swamp faction. Fortress was the coolest faction in H3.https://youtu.be/UDB1b1tvBBw?si=u8-M1HDcq9cmTzmL
Empire Earth 2 was a massive disappointment
>>719539839
I thought it was going to be on par with first one...
>>719539839Were the first two even good?
>>719546834How so? I thought it's fine.
>>719547520And somehow the 3rd game is even worse. They really should have stopped after the first one.
Every HOMM after 3. Final fantasy 15, warcraft reforged, cyberpunk, path of exile 2, every new mmorpg after 2008
>>719547792And unwrite the child from the game.(I know who he is, I will never use his name because)
>>719539839Starcraft 2Diablo 3Dying light 2Mount and blade 2 bannerlordFallout 4But the biggest piece of shit by far is Starfield
>>719547989im surprised you were hyped about Starfield after how shit fallout 4 was
Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha SapphireCould have been the greatest games in the series but instead they were barely a sidegrade to the original trio and were a harbinger of what was to come for the next 10 years
>>719547880It's funny how there's three Fuga games, and none of them answer the question of how the world inevitably transitions into Solatorobo. The third game literally just ends with no closure for the series whatsoever, and then pulls a retarded bait-and-switch for a different series altogether.
>>719548302Socks is ancestor of Merveille, that's enough.
>>719539839Dragon age 2 is the obvious choice but it doesn't feel personal enough so I'll say dungeon siege 3I played and loved dungeon siege 2 so much and then 3 comes out and it's completely different and casualized into absolute garbage
I’d have to think about it but off the top of my head the number one disappointment is probably starwars battlefront EA from 2014 or whatever it was, I never even played the sequel since the first game showed me what their hand they were playing was. After that I don’t know maybe:Ninja gaiden 2 vs ninja gaiden 1/black atmosphere and gameplay was too differentNinja gaiden 3Halo 4/5Mechwarrior 5 after the superior mechwarror 4 experience and its expansionsLost planet 3Deadspace 3Metal arms glitch in the system 2 never being madeI’m tired that’s just what comes to mind
Age of empires 3OblivionHalo 2
>>719548473Yeah but we've known that since the first game
>>719539839>Sims 4>Simcity 2013>Rome 2>NFS: Most Wanted 2012At least Rome 2 redpilled me to not pre-order a game again.
>>719549375ALSO Socks is the inventor of the mecha leg you can see in the post credits scene.Best course of action right now is dismiss these shonenshit filled games and fill void with the most wholesome and bittersweet fiction you can come up with for the crew. Don't get your hopes up for the visual novel games. Noir story doesn't have a happy ending either
>>719549780>Could have just had one Fuga game and let it become its own cult classic like the other LTB games, with people discussing it for years to come>Nope, shit out two horrible sequels that add nothing and just end up feeling like misery porn for the writers, while not even having the common decency to wrap it up by the end>The 3rd game literally came and went, with no one even bothering to discuss it outside of just reiterating that it didn't need to exist and was a pointless sequel to 2I really do wonder what the Japanese reception of 3 was. Also it's really obvious just from the box art of the three games that the first is wildly different than the later two. They clearly had a better idea of what it was they were doing. Then 2 and 3 were Shonenslop. Fuck sake.
>>719550115The post-war fuga world is such a mine for ideas about art, politics, adventures, magic, technology, literally anything!! (Just now I was brainstorming Kyle's adult life as a painter. Anon was upset about added 'affair' to his life, so I just retcon the affair was simply a painting of the Emperor's daughter who asked for it herself to celebrate 20 years of peace, and the newspapers fluffed it up as affair)
Mario Tennis Aces has the blueprints to be a fantastic game. The fairly universal praise of its demo and the gameplay back then even here is proof of that. Making an RPG story mode is also very cool & full of potential. The latter ended up being completely superfluous & underwhelming, while the game itself launched with pathetic amounts of content, and very weak Mario-ification of the genre, hence why the much more basic, yet infinitely more charming Power Tennis, 64, and even the RPGs can be argued to be better. It's really unfortunate.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9i-4foLur0gremember the disappointment with halo 2 when the e3 demo looked better than what we got
>>719549458Quite surprising EA hasn't done anything with SimCity series over these 12 years. Like I would at least expect some low effort remaster of SimCity 4 or mobile game.
>>719550570It's a good example of less being more. The more we got with the characters, the worse it became, with 2 being the most egregious example. Although 3's bad end future timeline is a really fucking close contender.>Establish in the first game that you can save every character, even the one who seems destined to die>Throw that out the window for 2 by taking control away from the player, forcing a character to die for the sake of plot contrivance, and then later "revive" them (They may as well be a simulacrum at that point)What the fuck were they thinking, man
>>719539839Hard mode: No sequels, remakes or spiritual sequels
>>719551479
>>719547989Starcraft 2 was great campaign is fun just ignore the dog shit story. Co-op commanders might be the most fun experience Blizzard has created in a long time but abandon it.
>>719547743completely different from the first and tried too hard to be like Rise of Nations
>>719551479I've actually got an answer for this: Biomutant. Goddamn I wanted that game to be something special but it just sucks ass. Everything about that game feels as though it was made by four different dev teams that had no communication with each other. The ear-grating narrator occasionally tossing out quippy one-liners and remarks during combat that are so completely tone deaf in context of the game. The combat itself obviously trying to imitate DMC but nothing really feels very satisfying and it's all just really floaty, with these big floating cartoon text bubbles popping up every now and again that just end up feeling ridiculous. The quiet adventure music contrasting horribly with both the narrator and the combat, and for a game like this, the music needs to pack a punch, and it just doesn't. It's one of the most bizarre games ever created, and not in a good way. The makings of a real interesting and fun game are there, but this definitely isn't it. It's like it's trying to be a Rocket Raccoon game, but with none of the charm of that character.
>>719551324 Simple answer: they weren't. Anyway I don't want to derail this thread further because it's not a thread for us. I will save my ideas for Friday . But if you're interested in them right now I have a twitter. Will be posting frequently. I promise.
>>719552581Fair point. I just needed to rant. I'm just truly baffled by CC2's decisions.
>>719539839how could you be disappointed by 3 when 2 was already two castes down the shitter.>>719540729or the last 10 games for sonic fags>>719552431was this the first furry scam, kek
>>719539927Honestly its not that bad. Red alert 2 is a 10/10 game it'd be hard to match or surpass. This at least tried even if it went too far in every direction. Gameplay at least is fine
>>719548204If all it would take for these games to be amazing is battle tower than the base game can't be that bad. Only autismos really focused on that
>>719554272Game was fun. Despite its flaws I still think it's a shame it didn't turn into bigger series.
>>719551479I was one of the guys that fell for the hype.
>>719551750 No remakes or sequels? Then it's got to be a game like E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy. Total jank, made by some devs who were clearly either geniuses or high off battery acid-probably both. But damn if it isn't ambitious. The mechanics are barely held together by duct tape, the English localization reads like it was run through four different translators and a meat grinder, and the plot feels like you're reading a dream journal written by a schizophrenic cyber-thaumaturge. But there's something beautiful in that chaos. No suits, no market tests, just raw unchecked vision. It’s like if Deus Ex and STALKER had a kid and abandoned it in a warehouse full of Warhammer 40k manuals. You won’t get that kind of flavor again.
>>719539839StarfieldBut I still maintain that there was no way to know it was gonna be that shit before launch, the people saying it would be shit were the tasteless tards who don't like skyrim or even oblivion.I was especially excited for ship interior decoration that they totally dropped the ball on, no mans sky just added it so I might try get back into that a bit
>>719539839Nobody wants to admit it but all of /v/ was hype as fuck for Starfield before it came out. Everyone here besides me was convinced it was going to be amazing and "Bethesda is so back."
>>719555626I love Oblivion, Skyrim, and even Fallout 3. I still knew Starfield was going to be shit.
Brute Force for og xbox, thought it was going to be as good as halo but with crazy good squad AI. Ended up being a solid 7.5, completely forgettable. Only cyberpunk has let me down to such a degree
>>719539839Dragon Age II was so bad that I, as a child, swore to never again buy a new bioware game
>>719555626>But I still maintain that there was no way to know it was gonna be that shit before launchyou are the definition of an NPC. Jesus fucken christ lol. How the fuck do you even exist?
>>719555626>I still maintain that there was no way to know it was gonna be that shit before launchdude
Lego Star Wars Skywalker SagaAvengers 2020Just about every game I was excited for as a kid was at least great. I generally don't hyped for games these days, but I let myself get swept up and the games were extremely mediocre. At least I got a refund on TSS thanks to Steam. People justifiably ragged on Avengers, but I'm a little surprised by how positively TSS was recieved. It's such an undercooked mess.
>>719539839You already posted it, so i'll have From Dust as a close second
>>719539839sporediablo 3huxley
Granted, I knew very well it was gonna be a shitshow, but goddamn it, I love Payday 2 too much and I just couldn't miss this trainwreck. 2 years later and not even the shills can bother reporting on it and they've all since backed out of their initial stellar reviews at launch and have distanced themselves from Starbreeze. Remember kids, with swedes, you lose.
>>719541461there are entire documentaries on youtube about how every game before 2005 caused existential dread
>>719552159what was the first one like? I never played any EE but I liked rise of nations
>>719555626>But I still maintain that there was no way to know it was gonna be that shit before launchLMFAO this is why this shit keeps getting made. AAA industry will survive thanks to guys like this
>>719539839Tiberian Twilight was actually originally intended to be an online game for the Asian pro-gaming market. The game was later forced to become the conclusion of the Command & Conquer: Tiberian series in an effort to boost sales.[9] It was the first game in the series to implement a form of digital rights management (DRM) that requires constant Internet access; this type of DRM is controversial in that it can be used to target the used games market as well as ensuring that households must buy a copy per person.
>>719555795
>>719539839No more heroes 3.I don't care about most Suda games and self referential shit means nothing to me.But the biggest sin was fucking cucking players out of cool alien bosses with 3 different fake outs
>>719549187AOE3 was fun as fuck online and skirmishes. I agree the singleplayer story being cringy fanfic is bad, when we coulda had awesome realistic battles
>>719541208it's a good game, but flawed definitely. the early 3d never looked good, not even back thenbut mechanically it was great, the story and the music were amazing
>>719552431I remember that i had some fun with this game but it got boring pretty quickly and then i rushed it so i could bet the gaem.Don't even remember any bosses (if there were any), just random exploration around a relatively empty world.Oh, and some factions that I didn't even entertain and some sort of weapon crafting system where you just put the biggest number and some kung fu shit on the background.
>>719556553But that game was cool as fuck
yall niggas suck at this.
>>719553841>>719546834I must be the only one who liked EE2 over EE1 because different regions had their own architecture and units.
>>719539839Guild Wars 2
>>719539839Yep, I loved EEI and II. I still remember the internet rage over the dogshit that was EEIII.
>>719556553>thought it's a strategy god game the like of Black&White or Populous >it's actually a physic-based puzzle gameI was so disappointed.
>>719551750Has any of these "X killers" ever succeeded? I can't think of anything.
>>719539839Believe it or not it was Metal Gear Rising>One of the few games I have ever pre ordered, it was supposed to come with the steal case and ost>Get the game, the ost cd is missing>beat the game on the same day I got it.As a poor third world fag I was immensely disappointed, the game is not shit but it was way too short and expensive for me at the time.
There were others (like Borderlands 1), but this stands out as the straw that broke the camels back. To the point that I actively stopped pre-ordering games and listening to gaming journalists.
>>719539839FFXIIIThat shit was so bad I haven't touched consoles since. I can't believe they made multiple sequels as well.
>>719552687Smarr indie studio prease understand
