Recommend games that take place in underground environments. Stuff like Underrail, Arx Fatalis, Sunless Sea, Ultima Underworld.I need more subterranean exclusive games!
Underrail Infusion is going to be so good.
What's that old indie game set in caves? Narrative Tunnel? Abyss History? Oh right, Undertale.
Honorable mention to Metro 2033 and parts of Last Light but it goes up on the surface too many times to be enjoyable.
>>719540189Core keeper, dungeon keeper games, war for the overworld, diggles, worms series, dungeons series, legend of grimrock, dwarf fortress, metro to an extent atomic heart, craft the world, deep rock galactic, empires of undergrowth, exanima, lotr return to moria, red faction armageddon, dunno what else. Just listed some of the games i played and had that theme
>>719540189its called the 404 challenge
>>719540602That brings back some memories
>>719540512One more i forgot. Barony
>>719540189Lego Rock Raiders.
>>719540642Barony is decent enough, but I prefer Legends of Grimrock. That's a good one.As for Empires of Undergrowth, the concept seems cool but it's so bug-centric and too much surface action.
>>719540189Abiotic Factor>There are parts where you think you're outside in the night air>It's actually a huge cavern and the "stars" are just some bioluminescent creatures on the ceiling. Then again you do find portals to the surface, but those usually lead to alternate realities.
>>719540189King's Field/Shadow Tower
>>719540750>>It's actually a huge cavern and the "stars" are just some bioluminescent creatures on the ceiling. That’s awesome. I’m a sucker for such details. Loved that bit of environmental storytelling in Sunless Sea too.
>>719540512Atomic Heart takes place underground?
>>719540189ExanimaSui Generis when?
>>719540720I love bugs. Grounded is my gotyay and smalland and empires are great and quite challenging
>>719540339praying it's good
>>719541142in 40 years
>>719541142I have played Examina for some years now, but I never fully enjoy the physics based mouse movement combat. I never get my swings in compared to Mount and Blade, Arena, Daggerfall
>>719541193Styg will definitely deliver
Old font was better
Die By The SwordGrimrockBoulder Dash
>>719540413Cave Story?
New
>>719541663>>719541550new font fits better with the new 3d look imo, but old one feels classic
>>719541629Peak!
I will probably never play this game but its aesthetic has been stuck in my mind forever
>>719540642Barony is really good
>>719540189Avernum: Escape from the Pit
>>719540189Not all levels but the Tomb Raider series, probably the first is most underground
>>719541897Is this good? I’ve heard about it for a long time but the Avernum trilogy seems very basic.
>>719541127Memory is hazy. I remember it being in undeground complex. You went to surface for like 10 minutes then back into the hole. Or maybe wrong game
>>719540189Animal well is an option
>>719540189Has there ever been a city that was built inside a massive cavern?
>>719541009I felt as though they don't tell you shit in Sunless Sea without you having played Fallen London first, or unless you are really taking notes as you play.
>>719542028The is a village in china that is built in a giant cave.
>>719542028Ask any dwarf, ratman or dungeon guys from homm series
>>719540189Crystal Caves
>>719542060Never even knew what Fallen London was when I first started playing Sunless Sea, but I was drawn in by how odd everything was.
>>719541897damn i haven't heard that name in a while
Lemmings takes place mostly undergroundSame with Descent
noita, unless you go up and explore outside like a normie
>>719541629I used to play alot of Boulder Dash as a kid.
>>719542070Which city is this?
deep rock galactic
>>719542478
>>719542518
>>719542478Is this fun?
>>719542154Played a lot of Lemmings in my youth.
>>719542598yeah. class based 4 player co-op pve horde shooter with fully destructible procedural generated caves and exploration and mining mechanics. it's had a lot of time for the devs to iron out and expand on everything so it's got a lot of solid content in it now. came out of early access around 2022 I think.fun even with random public lobbies if you dont have friends who will play it with you.
>>719540189OP's photo is from Vagrus the Riven Realms btw. Great setting if you like reading and some trading gameplay in a world somewhat similar to the Age of Decadence and Dark Sun.
>>719542598no it's dumb and insane like all modern games
>>719543364What's that supposed to mean?
>>719542573This would be cool if it wasn't World of Warcraft. Basically just the DnD underdark though, down to the spider element.
>>719542028there was an underground city in cappadocia, turkeyyou briefly visit it in AC revelations
>>719540678This game has a criminally good soundtrack honestly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alC-5eOPO_E

>>719543737very cool looking
>>719540189I guess Avernum, but i've never finished it>>719542028
>>719544676Why can't we have this today! The underground calls to me.

>>719541927booba
INFRA
>>719546465>INFRASeems to take place above ground mostly?
>>719540339>>719541193I hope we get actual roleplaying and not just builds
>>719546805What would roleplaying in Underrail be like
>>71954671875% of it is underground
>>719547391Nice!
Red faction.
>>719547708Fantastic series. Shame the last one sucked and the entire IP is shelved.
>>719540189Touhou 11: Subterranean Animism
>>719547863Great soundtrack on that one.
>>719544159Played through it about a year ago. The campaign is not finished but I overall enjoyed it.
>>719540189Steamworld DigDome Keeper
>>719541127>>719541946It's kinda 70% underground/30% spent on jogging/driving between different facilities and whatever the fuck DLC2 was
>>719548121I will have to give this a closer look then
>>719540189hollow knight
>>719548770why spoiler it?
>>719540189Spelunky La-Mulana, although only a few areas are natural cave formationsWuppo. I don't remember exactly what the split between outside and underground is, but there is a really cool bustling cave city you spend a lot of time in.
Sell me on Underrail, I've kept putting it off for years since I heard somewhere its mostly pointless sewer mazes.
>>719549643I heard La Mulana can get extremely obtuse.
Arx Fatalis
dungeon keeper 3
>>719549916Oh yes. I never finished it, but I got more than my money's worth. The good thing is, it's so massive, and yet packed, there is a huge number of leads to pick at until the very late game. It's an adventure like no other.
>>719540189Dominions and CoE have a cave layer
>>719540189Donkey Kong Bananza
>>719549745Depends on what you like. What makes Underrail appealing for many are the sheer amounts of builds available to the player which makes no playthrough the same. There's not much to RP about in Underrail except for the choices you make, as there are factions and such, but the setting and atmosphere also helps the game a lot. All in all, it depends on what you look for in a game. Keep in mind it is quite difficult.
>>719544523literally, literally, LITERALLY a 30 second scene in an 80 hour gamemight as fucking well look it up on yt
>>719550961So? There are plenty of other encounters like it. Sunless Sea is suffused in atmosphere and esoterica.
Baldur's Gate 2 the part in the Underdark.
>>719540339This looks nice.
>>719540761PC release when...
>>719551018like that specific one, no. there aren't
>>719552432Never heard about this before for once.
>>719540189Minecraft into the betweenlands modpack. You start in this underground dimension and have to progress through the modpack to get back to the surface. The mod "betweenlands" is pretty big in itself and has really nice sound design. It has some quirks (Some mobs are really strong but there exists some sword which one shots them, making combat boring but this sword necessary for a dungeon). Pic related is the skybox, everyday when you wake up you hear lots of rumbling and crackling and the skybox actually changes its crack shape. Pretty kino ngl
>>719553274That looks really cool honestly, but I am pretty sure I lost my minecraft account after yet another forced Microsoft migration.
>>719553354I use prism launcher and have heard of this method some people use to create offline accs. I haven't tried it myself though.https://rentry.co/Prism4Free
>>719553581Most interesting, thanks for the link
>>719550175Already in the OP.
Just bought Underrail. Wish me luck.
>>719540189WoW new expansion is all about that
>>719555664Problem is that WoW sucks.
>>719555371Good luck. Don't invest overly into speech or intimidation.
>>719540750>where you think you're outside in the night air(You) might, if you're legitimately retarded. Nobody else does, though, as it's very obvious that it's an underground facility.
>>719542028Lemuria from Underrail
>>719552045at this point just emulate them
>>719556045well at that point you might as well say Core City too, Junkyard, SGS, Hexagon
>>719556134Such a hassle these days after Zoomers made it mainstream.
anyone else ever have that dream of being in some kind of underground cave with the monorail and yellow lights on the roof
BG2
>>719559447This section was fantastic imo
>>719540678Reminder that this game got a full remake that adds a new campaign, a level editor, and dozens of QoL features, and also doesn't crash every five minutes. https://baraklava.itch.io/manic-miners
>>719542028not the town itself but a lot of buildings within the town of Coober Pedy are underground
>>719559691Whaaaat. I had no idea, this is awesome!
>>719542598Yeah, really great thing about deep rock is you usually have a pretty nice experience even with randoms.
>>719559767It's one of the most high-quality feature-complete rereleases I've ever played and it's for a game that like ten people care about. God bless the autist community.
>>719541897I'm retarded and I wanted to try this game out again and I downloaded fucking Arcanum. Only your post made me realize why that game didn't look familiar at all.
>>719560684Well, Arcanum is excellent so.
>>719560684do you have pits of avernum?
>>719546805>I hope we get actual roleplaying and not just buildsNever happening, bro. It's a game about build autism, not roleplay.
>>719562539is that you Styg?
>>719540189Earth 2150: while the entire game doesn't take place underground, you can build caves, structures, and have underground battles.
>>719540512Core Keeper looks pretty as fuck but it's a really weak and shitty terrarialike.
>>719540189Portal, 2 especially with the Old Aperture.
>>719541142Is it worth buying despite being eternal never-ever? Some EA games work just fine despite being technically not 1.0, I'm wondering if this is one of them.
>>719540189The Metro games, Hollow Knight.I really like that picture btw.
>>719564138It's from Vagrus the riven realms if you're interested in more of that style.
>>719543245Thx for the sauce, anon. Looks interesting. And the art I found on search looks fantastic.
>>719564298Lel, just thanked another anon for explaining where it's from, thx bro.
>>719540189Breath of fire dragon quarter
>>719564532>>719564642>>719543245>>719564298Erm, what the hell? The game looks cool.
>>719564532>>719564642Np, I really dig the style too.
>>719540189Lost In Vivo, I think. Your dog falls into a storm drain, so you climb down to save it. Then, weird shit happens.
>>719564138Sure looks underground to me.
>>719565124I love me some storm drain kino
>>719566194Thats Exodus and Exodus sucks. The only good Metro games are 2033 and Last Light.
>>719566342>best game in the series>sucks"moshi moshi, yes this is /v/"
>>719546805I honestly think that underrail infusion is going to be like pathologic
>>719566640What, how
>>719566485Next hot take: Witcher 1 is the best game in the Witcher series.
>>719540189I was recently made aware of this gamehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOI2lQLQxUc
>>719567761I agree with you.
>>719566194Kek, yeah that's Exodus. Haven't played it yet, Metro 2033 and Last Light mostly take place under ground with a few expeditions to the surface.>>719565067It really does, gonna keep an eye on it, might be my next vidya.>>719565093The art alone is kino, gonna be saving a bunch of it into a folder, lel.
>>719542598DRG is a top tier co op game. It's made more like an old school game.>host your own games>mod support>only several gigabytes in size
>>719542598hell yeah it is

>>719540189>live in a basement, play in a basement, never go outsideso comfy, it's like being hugged by the earthtree huggers can fuck off

>>719566963styg wanting time limits on quests and generally wanting ppl to just go with what they get
>>719569748I envy you
>>719555371did you get the dlcs?
>>719540189Donkey Kong Bananza is like this, and it’s pretty much going to be GOTY.
>>719569879That can work if done correctly, but Styg is all about suffering so we will see...
>>719569946I got Expedition. The other one didnt seem worth it judging from the reviews.
>>719568827Love the art here, I have to keep an eye on this myself.
Did jannies fucking autosage the thread?
>>719570489Heavy duty is cool and adds really fun weapons and a neat extended dungeon to fight for your life in (or stealth thru for lore with a specific build lol) but if you don’t know you’re going to like the game I would hold off on it. I do think it’s worth eventually getting if you end up liking the game, but expedition is the better of the two dlcs.
>>719570823how bizarre
>>719570957Nvm false alarm it seems
>>719540189Silksong nagger
>>719563403I think so, it's a good irishman simulator until you learn how to play and not bad after and they seem to still be alive, just slow.
>>719571160feels surreal that it is suddenly so close
>>719571249I was expecting a Witcher 4, Elder Scrolls 7 release date in 2028. I owe some apologies to the believers.
>>719570693Some real good shit.>>719571249The Silksanity is over.>T. Missed out on all the WAITing and still hasn't finished Hollow Knight.

>>719571392If you said to someone in 2011 that TES VI wouldn’t be out by 2025 their eyes would pop.
>>719572617Inexcusabley bad, if I was a shareholder I would of lost my shit. Instead of giving people what they wanted they just produced more and more shit.Seems only fromsoft can keep 90-00 game developer production, and even they are slipping.
