2013 was an excellent game desu. The story developed nicely while bit by bit as the mystery of the island was revealed and developed upon and I personally really felt the numerous times where you think oh now we are out of the worst and shit goes back to bad. Environments, excellent, the numerous eras makes for a varied and nice environment along with the island itself.Rise was not as good, partially honestly because it gave the most vocal demands after 2013 what they wanted. There is no fun in gathering specifically this or that hide to craft this and that, it is just chores as was the sidequests for the people.Environments, ok, not quite as good but fine. Sadly I felt the story wasn't as good, lacked a lot of suspense and the mystery, well I felt you could clearly figure out connections even if dimwitted or just outright see it for what it was. Big loss for the game.Didn't play shadow as it happened so can't say.

I think that, until this day, the nu-Lara trilogy is the best thing we have with arrow and bows in game industry. But the game gives you more than 2 fucking dozen weapons and shit and if you just wanted to just try them all ONCE you would have to switch through 3 or 4 weapons PER COMBAT ENCOUNTER and by the end of the game you would barely used them all once. There is a 3 or 4 hour long stretch where you can't use any guns and have to use knife/bow and there are like 3 combat encounters. Imagine a classic TR that is very focused on jumping/climbing puzzles, and that's fine, but it gives you 5 guns of every type. That's Shadow.

The new graphics are a sidegrade I'd say, sometimes they look very nice, other times the textures look wonky as hell and they messed with the lighting for no reason as far as I can tell. The cutscenes also look way worse with lipsync and they did some weird AI shit to the FMVs that makes it look like ass in places. I'd recommend the original visuals with the mod that unlocks the fps because for some fucking reason they locked it at 30 but the new visuals are honestly just fine if you prefer them. Modern controls are crap, switch to tank immediately. Some people insist that if you get good with them you can do some hyper precise skips and shit you can't in the originals but for me it's not worth the headache of figuring them out.They did add a few nice QoL features like shortcuts to select different weapons without having to go into the menu, added the ability to flip while jumping to TR1, added boss health bars, and an option that makes it easier to pick up items without having to precisely walk right on top of them. They also added a weird little pop-up interact icon in front of levers for some fucking reason, turn that shit off immediately. NG+ is also improved, using the save crystals from TR1.Overall very solid and fun aside from a few "why would you fucking do it like this" moments. Classic visuals, unlock the framerate, get rid of the stupid interact icon, and I'd say you've got the best version of the games. There's a mod called Gold that apparently makes the modernized graphics and sound way better but I haven't checked it out yet.
