You don't lose any levels upon death and can reclaim all of your souls and humanity, if you reach your bloodspot. Also you will probably spend all of your souls the moment you reach a bonfire, so at max you only lose a single run worth of souls on death.

The designated "poison" level has mobs, which reliably teleport multiple anti-poison and anti-toxin items in your inventory upon being killed. They also do not respawn.

You are the Chosen Undead and by the end of the game players usually have a character so powerful and are so skilled, they kill the end boss first try. As well as most other bosses in the endgame, because you literally have 20 Estus Flasks at that point.

The only thing that is true for Dark Souls is that the game is harder the worse you are at it. If you don't explore, don't unlock shortcuts, miss secrets, don't read item descriptions, refuse to learn about the game's mechanics, refuse to stock up on supplies, then the game is extremely hard, because you basically refuse to engage with half of the game.

The myth that Dark Souls is hard is negatively impacting the experience for new players, because many problems you can face in Dark Souls can be solved by reminding yourself that "this is a game and there is no way the developers intended for things to be so frustrating and hard". As soon as you realize this, you will go to an easier area, if enemies are too hard. Or realize there is a shortcut (so you don't have to go through blighttown on the way back up).

Learning new things is hard, just playing a game that isn't an a first person shooter, a Diablo-clone clicker or the MMO they've been playing for 10+ years is hard for most people. Dark Souls was unconventional and fresh, it also didn't hold the player's hand. This is enough to be considered hard these days.
