I understand why to some more oppressed countries and ethniticies it can be stressful and annoying if people who fucked them over in past makes stereotypical stuff of them. Especially if it's demeaning or degrading.
Some are more tolerant of course than others.
As a Finn it's fun to see anything Finland mentioned. But if a Finnish(or especially Swedish) game studio made a stereotypical Sami character in vidya, I wouldn't be surprised if they would call it out.
Japanese seem to be happy and don't think too much about that kind of stuff as they seem to be just more interested in representing other cultures and countries, even if they accidentally make them bit controversially. Just that nippons don't really think about it too much it seems, but I doubt many there are ill-meaning. RE5 is best example, white guy going around shooting Africans while "saving" them. I have finished it so I know it's not about that but man playing it in "current year" made me laugh a bit.

Some stories are just most popular than others, some disney movies like Black Cauldron also lack the sauce that other movies had, when it comes to female popularity it's largely due to how they're characterized and how much screentime they have, Alice for instance has a deadly combinatino of being a character from a very popular book, having a really cute design and being on screen at all times, meanwhile Shanti has four minutes of screentimes at best but good god does she make those count holy shit.
Some of them are simply too old as well, like Princess Aurora or Cinderella, they can't compete about the more "recent" girls like Belle or Ariel because the boomers who probably fapped to them are dead by now and there isn't any generation turn over to keep those girls popular.
Last but not least, you have furries and furries are VERY vocal and proactive when it comes to these things, so characters like Lady Marian enjoy a very specific boost that normal human girls don't really have.
