Reviews are in. Remember how combat in the demo got old fast and the enemy variety was very low? That's the whole game.

Is shit.
>>
Whoa, what a surprise. Is this even going to be considered a cult classic or hidden gem years down the line?
>>
>>719546642
I could tell it was trash from the 1st minute of playing it.

>Marketing is all about difficulty and no handholding exploration
>Exploration is actually pretty straight forward and combat is easy as shit

pretty good for a studio's debut game
>>
>>719547115
Yeah, pretty good for an AA all things considered. Still, gonna play silksong first. September is so good thus far.
>>
>>719546642
thanks for making up an opinion for me. I guess I can cancel my preorder now

How insufferable is this board gonna be when an indie game drops next week and is the best thing we’ve had in months
>>
>>719547115
Um Silksong bros?

Which one?

Looks like one of those games that magically draws in the loudest people with the shittiest taste who will prop it up any chance they get until the year is over
then it'll be forgotten about

>the story and atmosphere is phenomenal, reviewer kept playing for it alone but disliked the ending for some reason (it's a happy end for MC and the fat bastard gets shot in the head)
>some puzzles are actually challenging, you can get stuck, some NPCs will die if you don't solve their quest because the solution can be very obscure
>there's a dozen maps separated by loading screens, some are more linear, some are more open wordl-y, a chunk of them gets open at the same time so you're free to explore in whatever order you want
>solid combat fundamentals and good itemization, but low enemy variety, this includes a small number of bosses
I dunno, still sounds pretty decent to me.
It's going to be on torrents in a few hours, but these retarded niggers really should've released it globally a week before silksong or something.
>>
>>719549004
This week
>>
People complained about enemy variety in Prey and that game is 10/10. Just saying.
>>
>>719550105
Yeah. Low enemy variety can be remedied if the rest of the mechanical toolkit is solid, and the specials you get from weapons and drone look fun.
The game also apparently starts throwing more enemies at you, together with crowd control abilities to handle them.
>>
>>719549258
Literally nobody knew Silksong would be releasing this week until basically the last second. And regardless of whether they delay or don't delay, it would still fuck them over.
>>
>>719547115
Unfortunately the actual gameplay is painfully boring and shallow.
>>
Seems to me this is a slowburn horror/point-and-click adventure game that happens to have decent action combat. SoulBorneSekiros are going to hate it.
>>
>>719547115
I dont care if the combat is shallow and repetitive. I only care about the exploration and detective shit. I played the Sinking City and I love it. No way this is worse than that. This to me just seems like a retard filter.
>>
>Download the demo a few days ago
>Decide to play it today
>No license error
>The demo is no longer available
>>
I can absolutely guarantee all the bad reviews are retards playing it like it's Dark Souls
>>
The ending is very rushed. Its just like games over now bye and nothing really happens.
>>
Something I dont get is that its a country at war but you NEVER meet a single hostile human who tries to shoot you. It just seems a bit hard to believe. You only fight the weird monsters but not 1 human ever tries to engage in combat with you despite there being 2 factions at war with each other and you in the middle so both of them should be a threat to you.

I'm not gonna read the positive reviews, only the negative ones
this is the worst one and it's music to my ears
every single thing listed as a negative is a positive for me

very excited!
>>
another review I just read
>complains he had to take notes
>complains side quests can be obtuse and punishing
>complains it doesn't have enough teleport/fast-travel assist
amazing

most of the reviewers online are the usual souls shitters like fextra and cowboy etc, just as I expected, and they're all as shallow as expected

the only valid criticism I'm hearing is the lack of enemy variety and combat being repetitive or basic even on hard

>navigating through a Zelda dungeon or the Spencer Mansion from Resident Evil with all its odd keys and locks and repetitive hallways, but not having a map to refer to and remind yourself what you found and where
Jesus fucking christ I'm glad I ignored journalists long ago if that's what constitutes getting lost, confused and needing a map.
>>
>good puzzles
>dogshit combat

THEN WHY BAVE COMBAT TO BEGIN WITH
>>
>>719556260
My rule is any game that doesn't have handholding I'll ignore journos
>>
weve reached soulslike oversaturation
i just can not get interested the new silent hill as well its gonna flop soooooooo hard
>>
>>719556662
combat has never been good in any zelda game, yet it still gets a free pass

The combat is good. Only the enemy variety is bad.
>>

small studio pls understand
>>
>>719557318
Who cares, combat is not the focus.
>>
>>719558038
There's plenty of it judging by the reviews. An even split of combat and puzzles.

50 people team, developed over 5 years. He says bosses are expensive to make so they chose to focus on other aspects. Another thing he mentions is they're doing zero outsourcing and there's a lack of expertise to make those kind of combat systems in Montreal so they had to start from scratch and learn but it's so costly and timely. And they're giving players self-serve sliders because he's not entirely happy with balance. He's aware and honest about how it's their weak spot. It sounds like excuses but one thing he doesn't say, but should be obvious if you play "the best soulslikes", is how a lot other teams have no issue stealing animations from fromsoft as their starting studying point.
>>
>/ourguy/ JJB is involved
Wait a minute, when did this happen? I thought he was just an artist and now he's directing whole games.
>>
>>719558397
Yeah that's still very small especially if you don't already have the assets from previous games. For instance, Namco doesn't want to redo their Tekken animation skeleton because it would ruin them lol.
Based on the demo, they managed to cobble up a suprisingly un-offensive version of souls combat. They even have Ki pulses, I'm impressed.
>>
>>719546642
This gives me Dolmen vibes.
>>
>>719546642
Played through most of the game. Liked it. Feels like how silent hill f should be. You'll see.
>>
>>719546716
>Marketing is all about difficulty and no handholding exploration
>Exploration is actually pretty straight forward and combat is easy as shit
That was exactly the impression I got from the demo
The game puffs itself up as this intimidating experience without compromise in combat, exploration or even storytelling but it was all empty bluster and the game is actually normie friendly and straightforward
>>
>>719554160
Npc in game/notes you find say that people in your outfit are not to be touched/let them do what they want for reasons
>>
What engine is it and how is performance?
>>
>>719560325
slop engine 5, surprisingly good perf
>>
>piratechads will get it before paycucks
lol
>>
Hmm. So the only way /v/ will talk about the game isnt when I am passionately explaining why it has to be the saviour of the action adventure genre, and modern AA/AAA game design in general.

But instead when they can shitpost about reviews...im surprised there isnt a review score being shitposted about yet. But I guess thats to come.
>>
>>719546716
>3-4 hours into the game you've fought like 80% of all enemy types in the game
>game is about 25-30 hours long
lmao
What the fuck
>>
>>719562103
first one is unexceptionable but that second one is a good thing. Why does a game need to be 60+ hours and waste my finite time? 30 is perfect.

I'm not playing Souls-likes for the combat.

The demo was a quarter of the size of the full game. This was obvious.

What not even close. I just played through the entire game
>>
>>719548915
Wu Chang was pretty good, liked it more than Nioh and Khazan's battle system
>>
>>719564567
I didn't change armor nor sword for the entire playthrough of that Impermanence game and had an invulnerability button. Don't even try to compare its combat to Nioh 2.
>>
>>719563393
which game is this? does it have good level design?

The combat is the least interesting part of the game
