Sonic 06 is unironically not a bad game. It has long loading screens and certain mechanics feel like they weren't thought through, but that doesn't automatically make the entire game terrible.
I voluntarily started another run of Sonic 4 E1.

The game has so many fundamental flaws that even if it was actually finished, it would only be okay at best.The fact is, Sonic '06 was released in the state that it was, and so you can't just judge it the way you "wish" that it was released. The game is blatantly half finished. The load times are literally hours long, and are a legitimate detriment to the overall experience. Just because you can tolerate them doesn't mean that everyone else can. Some of the mechanics aren't just not "thought through", they're downright broken, anon. Busted. Especially on the PS3, which is like half of the game's playerbase. And yes, when you add up all of these negative things, it does in fact make the overall experience unenjoyable, or, you know... a bad game. Maybe not the worst game ever. Maybe not even terrible, really. But Sonic '06 IS a bad game, make no mistake. And it's okay to admit that. There is a reason why people reacted the way they did to the game on its release, and it's not only because of "Sonic is LE BAD" game journos. The fans were feeling this too, at the time. Whatever you think about the Werehog, you don't turn around and make a game like Unleashed, where they clearly dumped millions into production values and game polish, if the previous game wasn't that bad, anon. You don't scramble to try and make the best Sonic game you possibly can in the years that followed Sonic '06 if the game wasn't "that bad." Maybe you weren't there for when the game released. That's okay. But do yourself a favor and look into it a little. See what fans and even journos alike were saying about the game on release. Get some perspective that doesn't come from zoomers on /v/ projecting their idealized version of the game onto it.
