I find it strange that this absolute clunker of a game – and there is literally not a single thing in it that works right – still somehow manages to be a comfy, unforgettable experience I keep coming back to. I think the game captures the sense of isolation really well. You do feel truly alone, stranded on an island with dinos. The game’s sound design is really good actually, and the melancholic narration by Richard Attenborough genuinely makes it feel like part of Jurassic Park lore. It still has that magical atmosphere of the first 2 movies; if nothing else, you should go listen to it on its own - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6fgLbSw7Ao

The janky physics-based gameplay actually plays into that sense of isolation really well, even if unintentionally. Because it’s so hard to execute virtually any action, and they don’t work as intended half the time, there is zero sense of empowerment you usually get in a video game. Sure, you have a weapon, but you can’t actually rely on it. Hell, even picking a weapon up can be an issue, let alone using it consistently. It is extraordinarily realistic in that regard; you’re always on your edge, a single raptor can spell your doom.
The ambition was great, and though it didn’t work out in the end, you can’t help but admire it.
Also, looking down at booba to see your health is a very kino UI.

Fun fact: this game was among the first, if not the first game to use bump mapping on textures.

Perhaps it's unforgettable precisely because it's a clunker that plays like no other game.

I feel like the failure of this game is why we didn't get any more actual Jurassic Park games after Operation Genesis.
