Do you like Karting games? Which one is your favorite and why?
>>
mario kart, anything else feels like a thai konck off
>>
The only good one is mario kart and even the latest is pretty shit

I grew up with Mario Kart, but I feel it really went downhill after DS.

Played Crash Team Racing casually on PS1 and when Nitro Fueled came out I went all in and became pretty good at it. Since the game kind of died out because of the bad online and loading times I looked into Speedstorm (fun but pay2win), Kartrider (pretty skill based but has some online problems and cheating), Karters 2 (it's great so far but it's Early Access) and Crossworlds (just ok). So right now I'm kind of disillusioned with Kart racers, I'm banking on Karters getting updated or Nitro Fueled getting a PC port.

WHO?!!?!?!?
>>
Karting games aren't meant to be skill based, they are for family and parties. If you want skill you should play racing Sims.
>>
>>719557948
i will not play your shitty iRacing
>>
>racing game
>but let's use the slowest moving vehicles
>and let's race on tracks with the widest turns

Back at the start, I never understood the people who would rather play SMK over F Zero. For fuck's sake, you only had 50% of the screen in the original SMK.
>>
>>719557142
Mario Kart 64
Mario Kart DS
Sonic and All Stars Racing: Transformed

This is it for me. Honorable mention to CTR on the original PlayStation though.
>>
>>719558018
This is why I like CTR, they may be karts, but they are fast as fuck and they have the tightest turns, with mechanics and physics to really let you take risks when approaching them.
>>
CTR is the best kart game for the PSX, but that console has many other great ones. That generation was the golden age of the genre.
If you have a PS2, Pac-Man World Rally is a great one. Unfortunately, I don't know of any other good kart games for the PS2.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is excellent and probably the best kart game for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Blur is pretty good, too.
>>
>CTRNF is forever stuck on last gen
>not a single decent kart racer in development or announced
it hurts.

Karters 2 is basically NF's spiritual sequel and is currently in active development.

Pretty sick game right?
>>
>>719558515
when's it coming to consoles? seems like something that might have dead online real quick unless there's crossplay.
>>
>>719558890
It's alright. The RC cars handle like they are on ice and you can lose control at any moment which makes cornering a bitch and a half.

>when's it coming to consoles?
The Steam workshop modding is a pretty big selling point. I don't think they would be able to implement that of they decided to launch it on consoles. I doubt any of the companies being happy with Mario, Master Chief, Kratos, the sex dragon from Palworld and Uma Musume characters racing together on any console.

i have a steam deck but haven't used it in ages. if it runs good on there i guess i could play it since it's not very expensive. is the online dead in early access? is it matchmaking or servers?

>>719560085
I've been playing online recently, never had problems finding at least 6 more people to play with say any given time.

I appreciate the accuracy but, eh. Unless there is a drift mechanic I am somehow missing, the controls are a bit of a turn off to me.

They're fundamentally different games. SRB2Kart is Mario Kart but faster and slightly more tightly designed (by default, anyways; every server runs a fucked up combination of custom gameplay mods). DRRR has a lot more unique shit going on and kind of works like F-Zero with the Rings system, plus it has a full singleplayer GP campaign with unlockables all over the place.
I'd wait for 2.4 to play it, though, because they're overhauling a bunch of mechanics to fix some issues with the item balancing and adding Proximity Voice Chat.

>>

The "2d on 3d maps" aesthetic never felt right with me, for the same reason I could never get into SRB2 or DRRR, or Mario Kart 64, for that matter.
>>
for me its ctgp-7 on my phone
>>
>>719567216
If you turn on Hardware Rendering mode it actually replaces all 52 or so of the base characters with 3D models, along with all the items and such. I just left it off while recording those videos because it's both slightly unstable (some stages have dev textures visible for whatever reason) and almost none of the modded characters support it.
>>
Karters 2 mentioned!

Would any anons be interested in playing together? There's a CTR thread on >>>/vm/1846438 that also included TK2 on its roster and I've been wanting to play it with more anons.
>>
>>719567694
That's a good start for me. I'll wait until the new version like you suggested up top, thanks anon.
>>
>>719562187
How much does one of these cost? I really want one too play around with for 15 minutes then never use it again.
>>
I downloaded this mod/fan game for mario kart Wii called retro rewind and it kicks ass. It’s got every track in the series(sans world and maybe arcade?) and you can jerryrig it to work with a racing wheel. The only problem is I don’t think the SNES or GBA tracks are anywhere close to scale because the turns are insanely sharp

There's an option for 3D models and even some modded characters get some if they're high effort enough.
A few things to note
>The tutorial sucks and some important mechanics are never taught to you (such as the fact releasing a drift in the air makes you fastfall)
>The game's unlockables get cyptic as shit eventually, but starting blind still holds some easily accessible secrets that make it worthwhile
>Both games have high skill ceilings but SRB2K's lower skill floor makes it preferable if you have a group of people to shill it to. SRB2K is devoid of singleplayer outside of TT while Ring Racers has so much it can last you possibly near triple digits if you're a completionist
>>
>>719570347
They're actually revamping the tutorial entirely in 2.4, which is another reason I think he should wait to play it.

MK64 is such a weird beast as it gets cocksucked to high heaven but there are contemporaries that butt-fuck it. 8dicks edition might be mid but it doesn't have much in terms of competition whereas 64 fucking sucked but SOONAYKINGU!!!! or some shit

>>
>>719580151
Original or NF?
>>
>>719580197
Both are fine honestly. NF made blue fire easier since you can chain it with jump boosts without losing it but added bad loading times.
>>
World is the best kart, “intermissions” withstanding. There should be a queue without them, but the item play in this game is solid enough that they’re not too bad. And the base machanics are by far the best, with the interplay of drifting, rails and walls meaning there’s more decision making about routes than before. And KO Tour is better than any other alt mode in the genre
>>
>>719567892
Is it possible to join with an emulator?
>>
>>719581332
I agree with you on everything but the items part. Items are terrible in World, more players mean more shit happening, and sadly it ends up with first place managing to get a lead because they escaped the initial chaos, and the only player being able to stop them (2nd) can't because they are the target of everybody behind still in the pack. This isn't an MK-only problem, granted, but I've felt it way too much in World.
>>
>>719581559
I'm not well versed in pirated steam online gaming, but as far as I can tell, the game uses Photon Servers and not Steam, so maybe?
>>
>>719581753
I think items have their issues in World for sure. What I meant was that I think the items work well to keep things engaging for “intermissions”, as, along with traffic and boosts and whatnot, there’s a good amount to consider and time to assess what items your opponents have and stuff. Front running seems super mixed in this game. I think it’s really fest or famine, depending on if/when the blues and lightning come. The biggest issue with the game is people holding onto lightning until the end of the last lap imo
>>
>>719582296
CTR, anon. I only have a pirated switch copy.
>>
>>719582531
Oh sorry, I thought the post was about The Karters.
Don't you get banned from going online with a pirated copy? Unless there's a patch to that, I wouldn't know. Have you ever tried going online?
>>
>>719581753
My biggest problem with the items is definitely how common lightning is. I swear it never happened as frequently as in this game.
>>
>>719583082
Getting zapped while you’re off course and going from a potential top 3 to 12+ os brutal and way too frequent
>>
>>719583057
I haven't. No direct connection?
>>
>>719583712
Might be able to connect directly with other emulators, like Dolphin does for up to 4 player splitscreen. But for Online you will need to join the servers.
>>
>>719557142
