Has the Gamecube's level of power been overstated in the modern day? People point to the specs that because "the number is higher" it is automatically better but they rarely break down the details. They'll point to the 43MB of RAM and decry the PS2's 32MB, but 16MB of that 43 is too slow to be useful for anything except pre-caching and sound storage meaning it only has 26MB of useful RAM. They'll point to RE4 which has more twigs in the early areas of the game but the PS2 port was hastily rushed out within a few months after an entire development cycle of having no plans to release on other consoles. This is without mentioning the dire state of any open world game on the console which is always the worst version by a massive degree.

Yet there's tons of examples of it struggling to run PS2 games. Crash 4 runs at 30fps and has almost every effect disabled compared to the PS2 and Xbox which are firing on all cylinders at 60fps locked.

I think this is because the proliferation of emulation, people can run 4K gamecube games on a raspberry pi, yet it never crosses their mind that such weak modern hardware has no trouble running these games because the original platform was also very weak. Yet I've seen gamecube fans say it's more powerful than Xbox.

I think your question is too specific. In reality, most people think of all three 6th gen consoles as having equal power when your webm clearly shows that ports could differ significantly between them.
>>
i can imagine a number of reasons why a console made before diminishing returns resulted in a standardized architecture for all consoles would have difficulty playing a game made for a different console using a different architecture
>>
Theoretical power isn't best exemplified by sloppy multiplats

Remember how the PS3 cell was basically a "supercomputer"?

ok now post Metroid Prime

A baseline of software portability is a significant measurement. The Xbox version released 6 months later, the GC version a year later yet the extra year to program a completed game for another platform managed to deliver half the results.

games run best on the hardware they were made for.
>They'll point to RE4 which has more twigs in the early areas of the game
the entire fucking game looks blatantly worse on PS2 and you tried to diminish it by saying gamecube "has more twigs in the early areas of the game". you can not handle even a single gamecube lead platform game looking better than on PS2.
stop defending the console your mom bought you 20 years ago like a fucking wounded animal and grow up. each console had strengths.

The gamecube's greatest strength is how easily emulated it is giving people a taste for 6th generation games, unfortunately an incomplete taste and lame users lacking curiosity has kept that taste almost exclusively to nintendo games.
>>
WoC is a bad example as it's a beta pushed out as a "finalized" game

mgs3 mogs the entire shitcube’s shovelware library in visuals easily
