It shouldn't be possible for correctly made hardware to be damaged by any sort of use case coming from any software, therefore this just means that the hardware (or its firmware) is broken in some way. No storage device should suffer any sort of damage just from being used in a particular way, that just means it's poorly made.

It's like people crying about games "bricking" their graphics cards, when in reality the card fucking dies because it's not cooled properly, or the PSU is bad, or in more rare situations there was some actual mistake when they designed the board and they used some sort of sub-par part that's not good enough for the use case. Some game rendering 3D graphics can't damage a correctly made graphics card, just like reading and writing to a correctly made storage device cannot damage it either.

Great thing about SSD is that it only allow for so many rewrites before it will just simply give up. That might sound bad but compare to a HDD which simply having your computer case tilted ever so slightly one way can completely brick it within it first use due to it being completely mechanical (as in there are moving parts within it that record data). Downside with SSD is that the data is stored electrically so while more immune to physical defects also means unless you have it plugged in there is a risk of losing data where HDD in theory can keep data virtually forever as long you don't fuck with it and it is left in a good climate. Ideally you would only buy a SSD the moment you decide to use one as age is generally bad for them, so don't buy one and keep it as a backup expecting it to be any good a decade later. Pros and cons to each but for gaming SSD is straight up better, more so if you are on /v/ and likely on your computer daily for hours at a time. Because SSD only allow for so many rewrites you can easily check the health of it with a program. If the program say it is good then it is fine.

Shader caching is genuinely a non-issue on newer hardware, upgrade yo shit. I know this from experience from using a crusty i7-2600k system up until 2022. I hated how long it took to cache shaders. I'm running a more modern build now, and shader caching-heavy games like Shokuho (Bannerlord TC) is very snappy with the caching. I know for a fact the game SUCKS to play if you try this on a old cpu. Those players stare at a shader caching screen up to three times longer than players like me.

For AMD, get anything Ryzen 5000 series or later, for Intel it's anything 12th Gen or later.
Don't be like retards thinking their old CPUs are still good, because everything older than I recommended is not worth it anymore unless its some sort of retro/media center build.

You run a Ryzen 7000 series x3d cpu that gets too hot when you rebuild shaders for updates, so your solution is to just stop updates to stop rebuilding the shader cache? What about when your graphics drivers update? I figure some games may run fine with old shaders, but lots tend to need a rebuild of shaders after you do a driver update.

Your previous post I replied to (assuming that's you) was worded in a way that made it seem like you were a poorfag. I still think it's a bit goofy you complain about the caching on such a setup though. Pair that with other good hardware and it theoretically shouldn't be an issue, unless you got it configured in some way or just maxing too many settings.
>>
>>719580386
When did I say it gets too hot? Literally what are you talking about. Why would I want to wait a few minutes every time I open a game I haven't played in a while? Plus the shader cache always misses some shaders and makes the game start stuttering again while playing.

>Even the best hardware can be broken by faulty software If unchecked long enough
There's no such thing as faulty software which damages hardware, with one exception which is software-adjusted hardware parameters (voltage, clock, fan speed, etc.) which can lead to the hardware operating outside of spec and perhaps being damaged that way. But we are talking about storage devices here, I am 99.99% certain the OS does not adjust NVMe or SATA operating voltages in any way whatsoever, so there is actually no way for the OS to damage a drive. If reading and writing to a storage device in a certain pattern causes it to break, then the storage device is poorly made.

There's basically no way for any OS to kill drives unless the drives are already bad and the OS does something to trigger a bug or failure condition in the hardware itself. You're a fucking retard if you think mythological "faulty" software is damaging your hardware rather than bringing it up with the hardware manufacturer who sold you faulty crap that dies while being operated within spec (for example: Intel's relatively recent debacle with degrading CPUs despite operating within Intel's own spec. The video games and shit which were causing those things to crash were the symptom, not the cause).

We're at that point with Linux today unironically. Just install CachyOS (ignore any other suggestions) and check the box during install (or at first boot after install) for gaymin features. Then signin to Steam like normal and you can start playing immediately. CachyOS is so good that their customization were actually taken by Valve to roll into SteamOS. Rock solid OS with all the features you'd want in a desktop experience.
You could even just get their "Handheld Edition" version of the OS which removes the requirement for checking a box to get the extra gaming features preloaded. It has everything outta the box and starts you in big picture mode, but you can just exit that and use the desktop. Ready to go with a simple install. Easier to install than Windows. Supports Nvidia too with full features like DLSS.
https://cachyos.org/download/
I use it on my livingroom PC which is an Ryzen 395 system with 128GB of unified memory. It is perfection. HDR works outta the box too. Great for my use case which is a media center client (connects to my Unraid media server) for streaming 4K HDR Dolby Atmos pirated media and for light couch gaming with my wife.

>Some game rendering 3D graphics can't damage a correctly made graphics card,
Define 'correctly made.'

Remember Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 melting graphics cards because of uncapped rendering and thermal protection not kicking in to do its thing due to the thermal load ending up in a few volatile hot spots only?

What? If uncapped rendering breaks a card that's a problem with the card.

>Bricking
I really wish tech journos would actually tell the truth for once. The issue is bad, especially for tech illiterate people, but it's not bricking shit, the drive isn't broken, it's basically "frozen" to put it in normalfag parlance. If your drive does this and doesn't recover itself on a reboot, you boot into a live USB of Linux and just mount the drive. You don't have to do anything special at all, just have the drive accessible and that fixes it.

This bug is flooding the write queue with a gazillion empty writes, which is causing it to shit the bed and lock up. Sometimes the reboot doesn't purge the write queue, mounting the drive in linux flushes the queue automatically

When I was around 10 years old, my dad brought home a new external hard drive. It was the biggest we had ever seen. I hadn't even heard of this prefix before. We named it "The Big Gig" and it was 1GB. It was the size of a physics textbook. We thought we would never be able to fill it up.

This shockingly isn't as bad as the female Blizzard employee video that's essentially the same thing.
All she does at 'work' is paste UPCs onto merchandise.

this has been known since window 10. it is a firstly a core issue with how windows stores memory and drive space for "faster" functionality. This got worse with Windows 11 and all the shit coding from developer, NOT JUST VIDEO GAMES, requires a ton of read/write to perform basic function is causing the life space of SSD to just fucking evaporate.

This is a little off topic for video game, but I have been crying and screaming about this for over a decade. my infrastructure gig is fucking secure as I have reduced the need for ssd while still having just slightly lower data transfer speeds and high uptime for my company.

FUCK MODERN CODERSIN THE PARALLEL PORT!!

There are times I want to peer into the offices of microsoft just to see what the developers are doing when they add new features on top of the legacy codebase.
>>
I have an IQ of 600 and I did not install Windows 11 precisely because of how much Microsoft wanted me to install it. Just like I didn't get the fucking jab that somehow wouldn't save me and only saves my neighbor. Cry about it NPCs.

We, fuck Russians to be 100%. War or no war, those inbred, barely functioning, chronically drunk, slovenly, bootlicking, cantankerous, miserable, and hollow husks which we try to call "human beings" are literally the dregs of Asia that no one wants to touch besides China who is helping to tank their economy even further with the tremendous loans being fed to Russia by them.

Again, this is not even bringing any geo-political bullshit into the mix. Russians are just that fucking broken as a people that even amongst family members nothing is sacred, and one can be expected to be thrown under the proverbial bus by their brothers and sisters that are blood-related for a phenomenally meager short-term improvement on any sort of living condition.

Their history and culture are some of the lowest forms of living and being perpetually under the boot of whoever might be higher on the societal ladder to the point where they couldn't save themselves even if they tried. It is hard-coded into their culture from nearly 900 years of indentured servitude to be subservient mindless drones whose only enrichment in life is getting drunk and/or high as a kite on whatever they can get their mitts on, propping up their 'leaders' in an ad nauseam fashion mindlessly, and putting on their rose-tinted goggles of back "in the glory days" when the Soviet machine was little more than a nuisance and the only card they had to play was Mutually Assured Destruction just to say "We are here! Don't forget about us!"

But we all know how that turned out, and they're getting their asses handed to them by some podunk ragtag group of slavs trying to be better than Russians ever dared to dream.

I really don't understand the time punch system. It seems like corporations think they are getting their moneys worth but are just wasting time and money. As long as the work gets done who cares the specifics? Most days my job only gives me one hour of work to do. So most of my day is spent listening to audio books and walking around to stay active.
