Anybody feel like game music is an afterthought now in the majority of new games? Western, japanese, whatever they all just forgot how to make music? Did all the composers leave the industry?
>>
ratchet and clank 1 was something special
the soundtrack is pure SOVL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Go4_grJPFiQ

This one kills me the most

>Small character wielding big guns
Why didn't this get more popular!?
>>
>>719576940
No. It's just that most of it's generic orchestral slop because that constitutes your game being "high quality art".

>Anybody feel like game music is an afterthought now in the majority of new games?
No?
This came out like two years ago.

it doesnt help that a lot of soundtracks try to specifically appeal to brown people these days.
>>
>>719576940
Good music is patriarchal and white supremacist or something...
>>
>>719576940
For western audiences the more "game-ish" a game is the less artistic it is. Therefore gamey music that loops and has hooks and a real beat is less artistic than film scores or regular music that is featureless enough to superficially resemble film scores

E33's soundtrack was pretty great.

ive never heard anyone complain about music sounding too video gameish. but thats certainly what marketers think.
>>
>>719580053
Even veteran composers like Grant Kirkhope make the mistake of overusing orchestra to overpower a main melody. Its not used when appropriate and thats the biggest problem with modern songs. Its like if Mario Galaxy never dipped into synth or midi.
>>
>>719576940
The shift started when voice acting was introduced and it's been pretty much at the same spot for 15+ years

Have you ever considered that overpowering the melody with orchestration might be part of the point of a given track?
Uematsu was already attempting similar shit with MIDIs in FF7

A few games with decent, distinct music come out once in a while but yeah on a macro scale vidya music is fucking dead.

I bet you are the fan of Hans Zimmer's works.

Most video game composer are just trying to copy the feel of the overall industry instead of trying to create something actually good.

SF and Tekken, two iconic franchises, have such bad music now that they just give players a jukebox which is also becoming a trend with other IPs too like Sonic. Like we have to invent worse music to justify paying a composer but heres the older better music you can listen to. Companies love to cut costs but not in this area weirdly.

Ace Combat still makes sure the music is just as good if not better, Ace combat 7 was delayed for a month so the final boss music could be perfect. I don't have the screencap of the interview even though it's been posted to hell and back.

Medievil remake may not be to your taste but its 10 times more faithful music wise. And you can unlock the PS1 version of the game too if you want. Which no remake is ever gonna do again.

Scarecrow fields is such a perfect track for that game, if it were the only music track and played on every level of the game there isn't a single level where it wouldn't fit perfectly.

Did nintendo fire all their composers after wii u?

Crafted World was a better game, but it always makes me laugh remembering how Woolly World's composer shat on its OST. He's not getting work with Nintendo again lmao

>>719579114
They're just appealing to the exaggerated swagger of black teens
>>
It's still funny that some of the best vidya music tracks came from people who had no background in music, like R&C trilogy composer and Nobuo Uematsu.

Well whoever Good Feel hired for Bakeru did a great job considering that game isnt a nintendo game and clearly had a low budget.
