I've had my 360 controller for 11 years and had to change it a few months ago. LB button worked half the time, A button worked but lost its "click" and the joysticks were completely worn out. It's the longest I've had a piece of hardware and I probably could've repaired it myself but I'm too lazy and got pic related. I have the feeling that it's going to last way less time for some reason.

>>
Is there a controller that uses standard rechargeable AA batteries and will also charge them if you plug in your controller?
>>
>>719581382
I still have mine even if I'm not using it. It's quite overpriced now since the SAARs released way better controllers but it is still a very decent controller.
>>
>>719581453
Funny thing is Elite controllers lasts way less than the standard Xbox controller.
Nonetheless you're still a retard for buying this.
>>
the PS5 controller is probably my favorite
I like playing lots of different games and it's like the only controller that's good all around, partially due to the d-pad actually being usable for things and not a complete afterthought like it is on literally every single xbox style controller
I'm tempted to get a dualsense edge but it costs like 200 dollars and still only has two backpaddles instead of 4, but at least it's the only controller to have truly solved the stick drift issue
>>
Hows the gamesaar nova lite? Got a bunch of 360/ps4/5 controllers but ps4/5 controllers work half the time due to BT issues and 360 requires the additional dongle, should i get a nova lite or just get 2 logitech f310s for the same price?

I'll admit the dpad isn't as good as the PS4 controller's dpad but it's better than basically every other full controller on the market, it's only beaten by stuff like the 8bitdo m30
the sticks are replaceable on the dualsense edge, although you can argue that sticks are replaceable on any controller if you just know how to replace them but actually finding replacement parts can be a nightmare for lesser known models

Just ordered this from Aliexpress, really hoping it's good. All the specs are high end, except polling rate which is mediocre, but it's chinkshit so you never know

>the sticks are replaceable on the dualsense edge, although you can argue that sticks are replaceable on any controller if you just know how to replace them but actually finding replacement parts can be a nightmare for lesser known models
No need to replace them if you buy a controller that doesn't drift.

>>
>>719583747
>but at least it's the only controller to have truly solved the stick drift issue
The dualsense Edge """"solves"""" the stick drift issue by allowing you to buy replacement sticks for $20, except they're always out of stock so really you'll have to buy them for twice that off a scalper, and the replacement sticks also have the same planned obsolescence so they'll just break again
>>
>>719585441
anon, all controllers will drift eventually
having the part be replaceable is the only way to make sure it's not a problem
>muh recentering spring
yes? it's more of a wear part than a sensor/potentiometer
all sticks are on a fixed life expectancy, that's why until the last couple of generations of consoles every console game had fucking huge deadzones and no deadzone options
if you want your controller to last forever, pick the one that can be repaired. This is one of the reasons why the AA batteries were so beloved on 360 controllers.

I don't think you can go wrong with either, but with how good the price points are on Cyclone 2 and Nova 2 Lite, I have a hard time recommending Flydigi these days unless you really want six extra buttons.
I think Vader 4 has a better gyro than any Gamesir controllers, but I don't use gyro nearly often enough to tell, and if you're coming from Xbox I assume you don't care either.

>>719589213
For 70$ it has a lot of issues.
Random disconnects.
LOUD buttons.
The face plate buttons can fall off and be lost.
The button mapping software is so bad it has a chance of blue screening your PC.

Apparently a lot of people hate picrel's clicky d-pad, but that was one of the things that drew me to it. Of course, I don't play things like fighting games or Contra, which is where a lot of the complaints seem to arise. For the 2D games I tend to play, I think my ideal controller would be a DS4 with backpaddles and the Ultimate 2's tactile d-pad. The Pro 3 seems close to that, but the form factor doesn't look quite as comfortable as a DS4, from what I've seen in the reviews of it I've watched.
Fair warning if you're in this thread looking for recs: you should probably avoid the Ultimate 2 if your hands are on the bigger side. I've got small hands and the controller is just about the perfect size for me and would still be comfortable for someone with hands a little larger, but if you've got a pair of meathooks you'll probably end your gaming sessions with cramps. For a direct comparison, it's around the same size as, or perhaps a touch smaller than, the original Switch Pro controller.
>>
>>719589213
Haven't run into any of the commonly cited issues >>719589762 with one, Dinput is oddly slow to connect but has Steam Input. Controls feel amazing. Buttons are about the same volume as the Pro 2's overall which are only mildly louder than a SNES controller's buttons. I don't bother with the button mapping software because Dinput/Steam Input.
>>
>>719590038
>The Pro 3 seems close to that, but the form factor doesn't look quite as comfortable as a DS4, from what I've seen in the reviews of it I've watched.
Pro 2 and Pro 3 completely ruined a Dualshock 4 for me on account of the taller and larger face buttons. I've actively tried to go back to a DS4 at a couple points and just couldn't do it, I thought the Pro 2 was better in nearly every department.
>>
just bought this. i love this dpad. half circles in fighting games are no longer filtering me

>>
>>719590527

>>719590559
That natively supports it? No.
Your best bets are either modding or buying a modded DS4 (recommended), or buying whatever chink controller and the respective Brook adapter to connect it to a PS4 (+$30-40 over just the controller iirc)
>>
>>719581367
How are the ergonomics on this controller? It looks kind of flat.

The grips are pretty substantial for its size. It feels closer to a standard controller than SNES or Saturn to me, and the shape's more comfortable for me than DS1-3.

Huh, that's not bad actually. Will have to look into this controller more.
Looking for a good controller for 2d platformers like Silksong.
>>
i got memed into buying that 10€ gamesir controller, ended up preferring it to almost everything i own lmao it's basically a better ds4
>>
>>719592072
There are prebuild options but that's even more money added on top of an already expensive controller and you're not actually saving yourself any work or technical knowledge (they charge $50 and you're putting PCBs, membranes and buttons into a shell with a T6 and T8 screwdriver, this is maybe ten minutes of your time and a monkey could do it)

It is not a Vita style d-pad, it is a d-pad split into four separate buttons; HHL is fond of the split mod to try and salvage the Gamecube's rather dogshit d-pad, and offers something similar for Switch Pro controllers as well to my memory
>>
>>719591925
Interesting, it even has the classic-style triggers by the look of it. If I didn't already have a good gamepad I'd get one.
>>719591808
Just get a fightstick, that's the best way to play fighting games, you're always going to be disappointed by a gamepad in some way, especially if you can't use the dpad. You can even build your own, and it's not terribly difficult to do.
>>
it's a good controller but i miss my dualsense, I switched due to better connectivity. my biggest problem is the loud ass buttons but I love being able to use rechargeable AA packs
overall I've had it for a few years and am very happy with it. I use it constantly and have had no issues
>>
>>719592815

>>
>>719592139
I can certainly easily recommend it for anything d-pad related. I put it through its paces with DPs, half circles, crossup tiger knees, lunatic Touhou 19, Retro Studios DKC games, and claw gripping in Nightreign and Bloodborne. Haven't had it let me down once yet.
For negatives, my complaints:
>Bluetooth range is extremely short, so if you're doing something like Moonlight streaming to a TV in a different room, you can't connect directly to the host device
>Switch mode is very laggy with DS4Windows and sends some unrelated inputs to the PC even with HidHide. Might be because it's actually (partly?) spoofing Switch 2? Wired works normally.
>Zero extra buttons, but that isn't surprising at this size.
>>
>>719593649
>Switch mode is very laggy with DS4Windows
*over Bluetooth
Wired Switch behaves like a wired Switch controller, can be overclocked from 125Hz to 166.67Hz, works normally with DS4Windows, and is responsive despite the low polling rate in that specific mode.
>>
>>719593812
>>719593649

Is "pairing" the controller the same as using it over bluetooth?
>>
>>719595439
Yeah. Wired is plug and play, no pairing process involved.
>>
>>719596474
Okay, because the Switch 2 has both "pairing" and bluetooth. So I wasn't sure if they were different ways of connecting it.

>6 extra buttons
>Native gyro-to-mouse over dinput
>Good gyro-to-mouse over xinput via Flydigi Space Station
>adjustable spring tension
>better d-pad shape for intentional diagonals
>back buttons may interfere with grip
Cyclone 2
>2 extra buttons
>lower latency, but both are low enough I'm not sure you'd notice a difference in 99.9% of games
>Switch input has full 1000Hz and responsiveness over both wired and dongle; Flydigi doesn't have Switch over dongle, and wired is 125Hz
>dinput is read as a DS4 and compatible with DS4Windows

Xbox Elite's main gimmicks are swappable d-pad and four back paddles
PS Edge's main gimmick is 2 back buttons and making the drifting sticks modular so they can sell a $0.05 part for $20 and people will both buy and praise them for it
Whether first or third party, I don't think there's anything over $70 that has features that justify the cost. They're just consoomer bait at that price point.
>>
>>719602275
So it's not like they are faster or have less latency or anything. It's all about replaceable parts and gimmicks?

I remember seeing some loud shills for the budget models before the Ultimate 2C came out.
D10 interested me and I probably would've bought it if I ever saw it at a reasonable price, but I only ever saw it at $60-80 when Cyclone 2 was on sale for $25 so I ended up redeeming instead. Recent tests make me suspect that was probably for the best, I often use wireless dinput/Switch modes so I don't like seeing numbers above ~9ms there.
The d-pad was mainly what interested me. Is it as good as it looks?

>The d-pad was mainly what interested me. Is it as good as it looks?
I'm probably not the best person to ask. I hardly ever use the D-pad.
I've never had any misinputs, but I don't use it often. It is very tactile, so it's hard to even do a misinput.

>I only ever saw it at $60-80
I got it for 40$. So it was a good deal.

I have no idea what I'm looking at with the chart you posted.
Is that good or bad latency?
>>
>>719603869
It's good latency on wired xinput, bad on everything else.
>>
>>719603996
Is it really, though?

For the switch it's 19.02ms. Which is 0.018 seconds. Pretty sure that's not even noticeable to the human brain.
>>
>>719604418
The bigger issue to me is the jitter. 11.44-38.8ms introduces variable timing, which means anything that requires precise execution is now up to luck, even if you can hit the timing somewhat reliably.
I did actually have an experience switching controllers in platformers earlier this year where a similar difference stuck out, but in the majority of use cases I would agree it's not noticeable and won't impact the bulk of games negatively.
>>
>>719604848
I wonder if that explains why my inputs on Stellar Blade felt so inconsistent.

What controller would you recommend? Just curious, since you seem to know what you're talking about.

If it's just for small form factor it still didn't hit any niche for me that Elves 2 doesn't fill, and if I had to pick something else I have some curiosity (but zero use case) for IINE Retro Pocket and Shanwan Q38.

Yeah, that's what I kind of figured. I've never had much faith in 8BitDo. Thanks for the heads up. I'll probably just try it a little bit to see how it feels and then send it back to Amazon.

I am 100% getting the new Gulikit TT Pro. It looks so nice.

I used the EasySMX X20 for a bit. I find all the clicky sounds fun and relaxing to press, but as for actually using it, it's a bit meh.
>There's a macro and turbo button where the start and select usually are so that takes some getting used to.
>The mechanical face buttons feel mushy after the tactile bump. The sticks feel stiff and the tension's high for my liking. Also the magnetic stick caps are a bit tall for me even when I adjust them to be lower and they keep coming off when I carry the controller around in my bag while travelling.
>The trigger locks feel nice at first but when gaming there's almost too little travel and not much feedback.
>The charging port on it is quite a bit recessed and the USB-C charger I use with other devices doesn't fit. It does come with a cable that fits but I just happened to not have a USB-A to C wall plug...

For the SN30 Pro or the Elves 2?

Either way seems like a moot point, for me at least. Because I'm only using it for 2d platformers and fighting games.

Anyone know if the Gulikit Elves 2 has software that can turn off diagonals?
>>
>>719609993
Gulikit doesn't do software.
Elves 2 Pro seems to advertise that functionality, but the advertising doesn't mention the button combo for it and I don't see it mentioned for the regular Elves 2.

I see, thanks.

I've been looking at a lot of controllers over the past few days and they are all starting to blend together.
I could have sworn I read something about a controller where you can turn off diagonal inputs.

Elves 2 Pro and the upcoming TT Max have that. Gamesir has it on several controllers; I believe Cyclone 2, Super Nova, and Tarantula Pro, maybe among others.

The dpad looks like it'd get in the way of the stick.
>>

I've heard the Elves 2 Pro has a good number of issues and is actually worse than the Elves 2 normal.

>the upcoming TT Max
Looks like this is coming out in October. I may get this and just live with the Elves 2 for now. Because the TT Max and Pro look really nice. Like a Switch 2 Pro controller.

the xbox 360 controller dpad was kinda good, but youre right. it was still asymmetrical

my last one lasted me over 5 years and it had some pretty serious falls.
Somehow with all the bullshit Xbox gets, their controllers are actually good and quality (as long as you dont buy the elite)
