Weatherwise, autumn started early where I live (about a week ago), and it's been really nice right after the summer was so unusually brutal here during July and August.

>Meteorological autumn

This concept is cute in theory, except it's handled wrongly. If you want to simplify seasons to begin at the first of the month, you CAN, but the way we actually do it is one month too early. Current meteorological seasons as we do it now are a giant fucking farce.

Winter is December 21st-ish, right? And we say "just make it Dec 1st, so it aligns better with the subjective weather we feel", except that's WRONG. There's a delay between when a season starts, and when the weather begins to actually change, it takes TIME for the Earth's climate to heat up/cool down after a season initially starts. The prevailing weather patterns you would expect are all shifted by a month. The ACTUAL meteorological seasons that align with global weather patterns as we SHOULD define them should be April 1st, July 1st, October 1st and January 1st.

So why don't we do it this way? Literally just because people don't want Christmas to be an autumn holiday. But it fucking IS if you go by the actual weather. It's fucking bullshit

>Pumpkins are getting ripe
I planted my Pumpkins too early, and I've already harvested them all. Amazing muffins, though. Good time. I got a Pumpkin Spice Latte as a gaffe but now I've fallen in love with them. They're really good, and accentuate the fall that much more.

I'm an Australian.
We don't have halloween, and when it comes around it's in the middle of Spring.
Our autumn is just wet because most of our native plants are evergreen.

Small Town autumn Americana in late october when the decorations are going up is the most charming, soulful setting possible, and I've always been sad by the fact that I never got to experience it as a kid.

What exactly counts as an autumn game?
Summer games are vidya with deserts
Winter games are vidya with snow covered lands
Spring games are vidya with lush greenery

>and I've always been sad by the fact that I never got to experience it as a kid.
Halloween is genuinely one of the best things I can remember from when I was a kid. The school parties were always the best part, especially if Halloween landed on a Friday. I don't know if it's because I'm an adult now but it feels like Halloween is kind of dying nowadays, at least where I live. Less and less kids are going trick or treating and there's less specials on tv. Makes me a little sad.
>>
>>719588456
I really assumed your kind would have pulled a Kwanza and make up a holiday where you paint faces on animal skins or something that's just an excuse to throw costume parties and stay up all night watching horror movies.

I will also say Plague Tale: Innocence is a pretty good game for early Autumn. Woodsy, and some lead up to the actual horror season. Can't speak for the sequel because I've yet to play it.

Before October I'm probably going to put a lot of time into Hollow Knight and its sequel, as well as Metaphor. The heavy seasonal gaming doesn't start until October 1st for me, and I usually like to start it with an annual play of Pumpkin Hill.

They have a very distinct flavor. Its like trying to describe the taste of lemon or mint to someone who's never had one. I suppose you could say they're similar to carrots or sweet potato, but I find the comparison to be woefully insufficient. In the same way you could say a lemon is similar to a lime and an orange, but would never be able to nail its specific qualia.
>>
earth's rotation is a bad basis for defining the seasons, we need something universal
let's instead look at how distant earth is from the sun
currently we're right at the mid point between aphelion and parhelion, and moving closer towards the sun
hence we're in the middle of spring
australia was right i'm afraid

In the past people described the seasons by looking outside their village, seeing the weather/conditions, and saying to themselves shit like "Sure is Winter".
That's real.
People also looked up at the sun and gave religious significance to its procession. You could chart out when the solstices would happen. You could chart out when the equinoxes would happen.
That's real.

racing games are amazing for both autumn settings and 'comfy games to play while it's autumn outside.' off the top of my head:
>need for speed 2, 3, high stakes, porsche unleashed
>need for speed hot pursuit 2
>need for speed most wanted (2005 version, mix of american PNW and rust belt autumn)
>forza horizon (the first one, great midwest fall season)
>forza horizon 4 (has all four seasons and they're all great feeling)
>GRID
>DIRT 2
>gran turismo 1, 2, 3, and 4 and probably later ones too (3 is the comfiest but doesn't have the track actually called Autumn Ring)
>american & euro truck simulator (2) (not racing games but still vehicle based, need a mod for autumn but feels the closest to 'NFS Porsche but new' i've ever found)
>assetto corsa with whatever mods you want
