What is your opinion of these? I weighed the pros and cons, and while they're flawed, they seem to still be the best option among all other versions.
Best is debatable but all solid versions of said games. Can't go wrong with playing them.
>>719583081Arguably the best version of FFIII. I'm not a fan of the worse sprite quality for the SNES games though, and the non-sprite based particle effects they added look tacky: https://youtu.be/4-rjsLazp1Q?si=U4ZmuTu4Nt291NqF&t=97
>>719583081For FF1-5, they're the best version. (FF4 and 3 are in a weird place though because this is about their base version, because they have an "alternate" version of themselves in the 3D DS versions that are quite a bit different, and sort of justify their own existence)For FF6, it's debatable and between the original SNES version or Pixel Remaster.
>>719583081they are fine because they actually fixed the games.
>>719585265I prefer GBA for V since you get the bonus dungeon and extra jobs. It is subjective if that extra content makes up for the loss in music quality. IV and VI are also missing their bonus dungeons but I don't remember liking those as much.
Fine for 1 and 2. The only good version of 3. 4 depends on if you care about the sequel. 5 and 6 are second to the GBA.
PSP and GBA versions are superior remakes but Pixel remaster isnt bad since they offer QOL.
I find it annoying that they had the chance to make definitive versions of each game and they didn't. They're fine, if a bit overpriced. 6 looks really ugly too.
>>719586361I absolutely detest how the PSP versions look. Look like RPGMaker games.
>>719586361PSP version of IV has a horrible bug where enemy attack rate is determined by it's speed stat.Which is fine for like the last half the game but the first half enemies just don't ever really get a chance to attack. You actively have to stall the battle to see the Mist Dragon's gimmick.
>>719585343In what way did they fix them?
>>719587137nta and I didn't pay too much attention to fixes/changes, but Relm's old gamebreaking bug with Sketch is noticeably fixed and works now.
is it too late to give up on ff6 ds?
>>719583081They lack all content. They are shit.
Balance is really fucked for I and II. Only option you have besides a fan translation of a Famicom game for actual FFIII and you could argue it actually is better balanced or at least doesn't penalize you for using its main system feature anymore. I pretty much have no idea what the fuck version of FFIV you should play besides not FFII US or Easy Type because there is so many differences between versions. V and VI have the most work done with the game system and updates yet remain the most pointless because everything else was being brought up to FFV Advance graffix anyways so it's pretty debatable if they have better graphics at all, they still suffer from universal problems like throwing out enemy action sequence scripts and uneven scrolling, and those 2 games have a bazilion rom hacks already.
>>719587287When was the last DS game to come out nigga
>>719583081they arent the best versions because they arent even in competition.
>>719586621
they are nice one stop shop for the gamesbutgba 1, 2 5 and 6 were betterff3 ds was the best version of itpsps was ok, nothing to shit yourselves oversoundphiles can fuck off
>>719587346 They don’t “lack all content,” they just streamlined a bunch of side stuff and removed the bloat. Honestly, the bonus dungeons in GBA were just lazy asset flips with no real design behind them. The PRs keep the core experience intact while fixing bugs, translating properly, adjusting balance, and improving UI. Not saying they’re perfect (looking at that auto-battle nonsense in II), but calling them "shit" is just reactionary.
>>719587576I like how you say I'm wrong then move on to prove me right.
>>719587576The character scenarios in IV's bonus dungeon were fun. Some more than others, I'll admit. The REST of the bonus dungeon was trash.
>>719587532Hold up, is Pixel Remaster for FF1 just reusing some sprites from the original release of The After Years?
>>719583081they're made to be utilitarian and they're good in that regard I guessI don't like them very much, the framing of everything in general is very poor, I don't like the flashy effects and all those little things. I think that, artistically, they're a downgrade. They're fine though if you'd rather play with more quality of life stuff and play through the games quickly, that's the point of these remakes I guess.
>hate original things>hate reusing assets of things you lovedno winning
>>719583081They have so many mods that they're probably 1:1 with the original versions by now.
>>719583081I liked them a lot, probably the variants I'll replay from now on.
>>719587763Field sprite is different, but otherwise: Yes, the white and black mage are the same. Which, imo, is fine. I wish we could get a new, more traditional FF using generic classes like that...
>>719587763They slightly changed the shading but yeah. They reuse from all over the place, there's a lot of enemy sprites in I-III that are shared with one of the gacha games. One of the things I has going for it is being the only remake that still has the 3 head sprites for the mastered jobs though.
>>719583081Depends on the gameFF1, 2 and 3 the best versions are the PR.FF4 i dont know because i consider it garbage, but people are fond of the NDS remakeFF5 is definitely the best version. Forget about the GBA "extra contet" it is shit.FF6 is debatable. Personally the extra content i think its pretty good and kinda needed, and i do prefer the original music/gloomy look, but the original music is still in PR and the gloomy look can be modded in.
>>719587915I thought modding stalled pretty quick when people realized they couldn't add new content, just edit what's already there.
>>719588612>FF4 i dont know because i consider it garbageFuck you.
>>719588645i hate that shit so much, overrated as fuck with just a couple of good moments.
>>719588645he's right
>>719588809Its still better than 2 or 3.
