I think the RPG genre made a mistake normalizing the romance stuff. It drew in a much larger audience, but it made the genre much more feminine and hollywood. I don't exactly hate romance being featured, I just think it reoriented the genre in a cringe way, and the nerds who make these games always have a very cringe perspective on what romance looks like.

I usually ignore romance options altogether, but sometimes this means friendzoning pushy companions. I like being able to build wholesome friendships with companions though, frens are gud.

The Tali romance is not bad but it gets overhyped because everyone goes gaga over the qt3.14 quarian GF.
