As in, occluding light propagation more. Like how they did in, wait for it, Bloodlines 1. No one knows how to make fun realistic lighting because it's demanding.

The diamonds could work but there are too many of them and the health bar needed to be more stylized. Probably red at all times and have it be slightly animated and wispy. Devs need to start designing around pc layout where the sneak symbol and directions at the top left and the health bar aren't so fucking big, throwing in an option for tv plebs.

What looks jank about it? The guy playing seems terrible at first person combat. I was reading an interview with the devs and they mentioned how they wanted to make a game where enemies attacked you at once instead of waiting their turn. I think some people are used to those games where enemies stand out waiting until other enemies finish their attacks.

I specifically remember people on /v/ complaining about the old warehouse footage where enemies stood around attacking the player one-by-one. End of the day, you have to have a vision and stick to it because the truth is that first person combat is one of those things that people don't "get" until they actually play it. Look at the upset people had over Doom Eternal and its glory kills.

A bunch of footage released the past week. The Paradox stream is interesting because they show what happens when you just wander around town before you're meant to. Long story short, VTMB2 looks absolutely incredible. Some people are still coping about it because they're mad that the studio made the game they wanted to make instead of the game Bloodlines fans wanted or expected.

Expect a Metacritic score in the mid-to-upper 80s. The Chinese Room are going to become the new untouchable darlings like Bloober Team before them.

They didn't cut "33%". They developed two additional playable clans as DLC. What they actually did, if you scratch the surface was take the planned Malkavian standalone DLC and put it into the base game. Originally there was a multi-hour-long DLC planned for after release where you would play a Malkavian detective. Halfway through development, they realized Fabien wasn't working, and came up with the idea to merge Fabien and the Malkavian detective into one character. So they added hours of content into the base game, in the form of the playable flashback sequences.

Mid-80s seems very reasonable. It's going to be praised for the story, writing, atmosphere, choices that matter, as well as the creativity of the combat. But it's gonna be docked some points for the obvious cut corners around the open world and the promised 25 hour length not quite living up to expectations.

The post is correct, though. Anyone with sense wondered where the fuck these "you play half the game as a Malkavian" sequences came from. Turns out, they came from the planned DLC. The game was pushed back a year to rewrite the story around the new structure and to complete the content. This created a problem because they no longer had a story DLC for the Premium Edition like they'd planned.

PC Gamer compared 2's combat it to a turn based game played in fast forward. When you hold right mouse button, time slows down. So you have time to plan out what you're going to do. Combat is thus a kind of speed ramping stop and start.

You are right, allow me to elaborate.
I think it's because the animations look like the canned stuff you can import from Mixamo as a placeholder and everything looks very stiff and generic as a result.
You can also see in the first video that enemies can't be interrupted while in the middle of an animation which leads credence to my theory about the canned animations because this would require custom animation trees.
Also, enemies are sponges and that feed animation is just painfully bad compared to the one in the first game.
The screen is also absolutely cluttered with visual effects and particles and it looks really bad.
As for the UI, I don't think I need to explain it. It looks just like any other game released since 2020 and it sucks for all the same reasons.

The problem is that the game is too egregiously similar to Bloodlines 1. It deliberately mimics numerous plot beats and archetypes from Bet of the Night to the pawn shop to DON'T OPEN IT. There is not way to mistake the game for anything other than Bloodlines 2. It's like watching Terminator 2 and trying to pretend the film isn't obviously rehashing the first movie in an action framework.
