What is it going to be? A linier epic first person slasher? Is there even stuff like that? They all 3rd person, rise: son of Rome is the only thing that comes to mind.

Something similar to Battlefield 1 but in ancient times. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=E4g3zBscANI&pp=ygUSYXV0b21hdGljIGJhbGxpc3Rh

Trying to form a Testudo with a bunch of retarded randos while an elephant fucks your shit up would be fun.

Battlefield, at its core, is a FPS franchise. You may as well ask if a "Tony Hawk's Battlefield" game could work. People that play Battlefield want guns.

Wasn't there going to be a CoD Rome game at some point?
>>
It would need to be massive battles. Like 500 player matches minimum. I'm sure Romans had small skirmishes, but that's not what people have in mind when imagining Roman legions battling. But battles would probably look like shit and just be disordered blobs because nobody will stay in formation

Medieval era is much more fitting for small skirmishes like raid and villages and stealing the livestock lmao

I have an idea for maintaining formations, though. There would be a dedicated button that you hold down that would generally slowly return you back into formation. Like if you run ahead of your unit to cut somebody down, and you end up like 10m ahead and cut off. Here is an example of how it could work
>hold down RT to return to formation
>the system calculates the nearest open spot in your formation
>it's behind you, and a bit to the right
>your avatar begins to slowly walk backwards
>after a few seconds, you're back in formation and your shield locks with the two allies beside you and the animation of it gives weight and impact
>you receive a status of 50% defence bonus in formation
>in formation, you autowalk with the unit forward

And also, the formations would actually look like formations. They would intentionally not look perfectly ordered with exact spacing, but they would be made to look as much as possible like a real formation

it wouldn't look like 100 people trying and screwing up to guess the spacing. Officer units would be able to order different formations, like a loose formation, and anyone holding down the formation button would automatically move to the proper spacing in the formation

A general would give orders, to locations, to attack or defend. Officers would make micro adjustments. Individual soldiers can do what they want, but the bonuses would encourage them to stay in formation

Maybe the bonus of formation would be a footing bonus instead of just defense. Like you can easily get knocked down if you're not careful or if you're outnumbered. Like if three guys charge at you, it could be very easy for you to get knocked down. And if you get knocked down you're like 80% probabilty fucked.

Nigha this ain't what I'm talking about, you can only have so much of "crossbow n shiet" so there will be a fair amount of melee, but how would that work. How would multiplayer work, how would campaigns work, how would combat work, there is too many variables and not many solutions.

My best vision for this to be similar to Mount and blade, have certain army skirmishes with quite a few bots and objectives to fill the filed. Have similar directional combat not too complicated. I do question tho how it would look and feel in first person which is the biggest concern here.

Every time

It could work as a melee slasher where you have a bunch of AI minions on the maps and the players are just giga chads. For Honor did something like that but it was generally too small-scale focused to feel big.

Chiv and Mordhau wouldn't really work unless they added bots and added more players.

Warbanner/Mount and Blade have terrible combat and are more RTS/sim focus.

nobody would play because theres no guns, even BF1 had to have automatic weapons for people to play
>>
>>719600517
That is a fear of mine yes. Giving every class at least some ranged weapon might help though. Javelins, slings etc
>>
>>719600517
I'm sure some Mountain Blade enjoyers will give it a whirl. So long as Butterlord continues to shoot themselves in the face there will always be an audience looking to fill that void.
