What causes this
>>
People who only watch other people play video games
>>
>>719607164
I'm a huge Treasure fan
I've only played Ikaruga and Sin & Punishment 2
>>
>>719607164
That dude does not look huge at all
>>
>>719607164
Social media.
I will say I was already deeply invested in Drakengard 1 before I touched it thanks to Nier, and now can safely say I am not a huge fan afterwards.
>>
>>719607805
very few drakengard fans actually like the game.
>>
>>719607164
What exactly do you mean? I played Prince of Persia, I played Hitman - I was a fan, before starting Assassin's Creed for the first time. Sure, I didn't know I'd turn out to be a diehard XCOM fan before starting it the first time, but you can review art, lore, animations, ideas, mechanics - all the things that make a fan - before seeing them in action for the first time.
Or do you mean how FromSoft fans watched Bloodborne "let's plays" for 10years before it got ported?

There must be at least 12 separate series I pretend to be a huge fan of on /v/ where I've never played any of the games for more than like 30 minutes.

I've never played OoT or Majora's Mask but I constantly argue on /v/ about which one is better than the other
>>
>>719607585
Play light crusader. It's comfy once you get used to the isometric view and controls.
>>
>>719607164
A lot of critically acclaimed games used to be difficult to find, so it was easier to join the fandom as a secondary
>>
Moralfagging unable to pirate and feeling they need "permission" to play the game
Look at oblivion remaster

How many played that only because it was the new shiny?
They only played it because they felt they had Bethesda's "permission"
Then you have another version of this
/v/ le ddit and youtube/twitch same community across it all /v/ will deny it but it's true
How many people on here especially h
Who goon to fucking FNAF/poppyplaytime/Undertale/etchaveplayed the fucking things?
It's a paraeocial relationship with the games.they never play it but 'like' the game
There's other versions out there of this same illness like a strand yet it has ruined gaming more than a stupid ass fandom
Look at Monster Hunter. Capcom thought the paraeocial retards who only got into it from the above sources and either suck or don't actually play it and made the game thinking they would buy it and out number actual fans
Look how that turned out

MM right?
>>
>>719608292
Usually. I just pick one based on how I'm feeling.
>>
>>719607585
I refuse to believe out of the five people who have played Sin & Punishment 2 there's one of them who hasn't at least played the first.
>>719608002
In the show fans' defense, the writers never played the games either.
>>
>>719607880
It really takes incredible willpower to not immediately drop it after mere minutes of the very first level, that ear-rape of a BGM alone is grounds for breaking the disc in half.

games are fashion to alot of people
>you ever play ____?
>no
>oh man you got to its so good
then those people either out of some subconscious guilt of not already being aware of _____ or purely wanting to know look it up, then a small percentage actually play it while a majority watch lore/explanation/build videos.
for as much profit games make and its current popularity a shocking low number of people actually play (genuinely engage with, not mindlessly indulge) videogames.
like how some people claim to read many books or know alot about cars or sports or whatever really, its the illusion of grandeur people are chasing, to be more valued in the eyes of others, actually playing a game is too difficult for many people, either skillwise or simply laziness.
"Im apart of this fandom!" they yell when they have a whopping 3 mins of playtime and watched a streamer actually play it for 6 hours.
its really why streamers even have any relevancy, youtubers too, you think that 200k video on a niche game is hitting those playcounts? no but it'll definitely lead to sales bump as people still want to feel part of the crowd, a fanbase, a community, a need to be someone to anyone, "I paid money, I'm now a valid member of the community, praise me for my taste" sort of thing.
its a old tradition, just more visible to anyone now

>one of them who hasn't at least played the first
One was localized, the other wasn't for 20 years. It's not that hard to believe, c'mon.
>>
>>719608396
I got up to the second flying mission and put it down. One day I'll suffer through it. One day.
>>
>>719607164
Masturbating to the porn for years. Been meaning to emulate it for a while but could never find the time to until the official remaster on pc.
>>
>>719608041
Thats really sad. I can only imagine the pathetic life you live.
>>
>>719608507
The first game released on Wii in America two and a half years before the sequel (seven years after JP release, not 20) and is still officially available on NSO while the sequel can only be played on Wii(U) or via emulation.
>>
>>719609046
That's why I said "localized"
>still officially available on NSO
Yeah, 20 years after released it was actually translated. Dolphin is probably still the best emulator out there and S&P 2 fucks hard on KB&M
>>
>>719609175
You underaged faggot, the game has ALWAYS had English dialogue and text. Only the subtitles were ever in Japanese and they still are in the current version. The NSO release isn't localized, it's identical to the Japanese N64 and American Wii release.

You sound pretty upset, nerd. Sequel's still better anyways.
>>
I enjoy shmups casually but I'm not autistic enough to "get good" at them. If I'm gonna spend hours memorising patterns I'd rather learn a song or something. This isn't meant to be derogatory to people who enjoying doing that. I'm just not gonna do it myself.
>>
>>719611172
>I was wrong and doubled down on it so now I'm gonna pretend I never cared in the first place
Let me guess, you spent that half hour in between replies looking up gameplay videos to try and prove me wrong, didn't you? By your own admission you didn't play the first so you wouldn't know that it's better, and now I believe you since I know you're an emu babby who either wasn't aware or wasn't alive when the games came out.
>>
It's so weird that people who enjoy watching video games get played but not actually playing video games are viewed with more derision than people who like watching sports be played but not actually playing sports. I watch FPS streamers the same way my grandpa watched boxers, just hoping to see one of them call their opponent a nigger.
>>
>>719607164
cool box art
i wanted to play ikaruga too after seeing it on xbox arcade but it turned out to be some fucking space invaders ass shovelware
>>
>>719612706
The barrier to entry is "Do you have hands?" as opposed to "Can you run 50 miles carrying another person in weight?"
>>
>>719608041
That's really based. I can only imagine the awesome life you have.
>>
>>719612831
To play soccer, all you need is feet. If you're too poor for anyone nearby to have a soccer ball you can use, you live in a third world nation where you can just kick around the severed head of one of the millions of unwanted brown children.
>>
>>719608506
This is evidenced by just looking at steam reviews and seeing all the people giving a thumbs up and declaring it a 10/10, and then have 40 minutes of playtime
>>
>>719612967
All you need is feet? Why aren't there any fat fucks on the soccer field then? Why is it that you need to be fit to compete?
>>
>>719613089
Why isn't everyone with hands an esports professional?
>>
>>719607668
no, you got it wrong.
he's a fan of the game called "Huge Ikaruga"
>>
>>719613132
No practice? No drive? Certainly not because it's too physically demanding, you can look at EVO to confirm that.
>>
>>719607585
Play mischief makers or I will fucking shake you
>>
>>719612996
Steam achievement percentages as well, Baldurs Gate 3 for example, for a game that sold millions and consistently has a playerbase of 30~40k to this day, 10% of players didn’t even finish the tutorial, while only 20% actually beat the game

Playing a video game is too hard
>>
>>719613292
I don't put much stock in Steam achievements.
>>
>>719607880
This. The game managed to capture the feeling of going insane at the inevitable end of the world so well that barely anyone actually wants to experience it.
Imagine making an art piece so effective everyone who's vocal about it being good didn't truly like it.
>>
>>719613737
No it's just shit and anyone that convinces themselves it's good is delusional.
>>
>>719607585
Play Sin & Punishment on N64. banger
