but why?

It's an underpowered toy

if i wanted an overpowered toy i'd use your mom's dildo

It’s the best choice for a few reasons.
>maximizes battery life compared to running at a higher resolution
>most modern games that people want to try on Deck will struggle running above 720-800p on its now dated mobile chipset. Even with PC hardware like the ROG Ally or Lenovo Legion Go, performance for modern games at 1080p or higher won’t be guaranteed. It’s for the best in this case to make it retard proof.

ok but why so close to 720 and not just 720
its right there

>x64 cpu and not a snapdragon gen 3
Sad.

Maybe they couldn’t find any good 720p panels for their use case at the time it was manufactured. That or they wanted to take advantage of its 16:10 aspect ratio to have a wider viewing experience compared to standard widescreen, who knows.

Just like how computer monitors are 16:10 and not 16:9, the extra height is better for a monitor. Most games have no problem scaling to the 800 lines.
It can't run modern 3D games at higher resolutions anyway, wrong form factor for that. Ive used mine for many thousands of hours, primarily for coop FPS games like L4D2 and DRG, and thats really the sweet spot for which types of games you should play on it.

In the age of dogshit PC ports I wish this was true. Basically anything made in the last ten years is 16:9 capped requiring external fixes

It was released in 2022. It's the first major PC handheld. Steam Deck 2 should be 1920x1200.
>>
What's with all the negative Steam Deck threads today?

The extra space lets me stick a performance overlay in the gap without having it cover the game's content
>>
Doesn't matter, it's still 10/10

What are you even talking about, faggot. PlayStation and Xbox are dead, why even try to force this Switch vs Steam Deck thing when not even Nintendo nor Valve consider each other competition and just do their own thing?

Great balance between resolution, screen size and battery life.

Tbh part of the reason i swapped a steam deck oled for a rog ally is the resolution. Even on a small screen 720p looks rough nowadays

its better for retro games
