LTSC makes linuxcucks absolutely SEETHE because it completely defeats the point of Linux. People don't want to use autismOS that makes everything ten times more tedious, they just want to use their PC without being bothered by Microsoft, ideally while still using Windows. LTSC gives them that, so if LTSC was well known and widespread, Linux desktop would go from that 1.8% it has on Steam straight down to 0.0018%.

It's a catch 22 really
You want Linux to have a bigger install base because it means more support from groups who now see an interest + more users reporting issues that can then be solved whereas before they'd have gone unnoticed or unreported.
But that also means a bigger install base of normalfags and retards that'll eventually ask for measures, or at the least tolerate measures, that will ruin Linux as a whole.

Fact is systemd latches itself into far too many parts of any given OS which is against the concept of the modularity/freedom of choice you're suppose to have. Ship's sailed regardless. This is a lost battle that's 10 years old, it is what it is.

So we are talking minimum 5 more years on win10 for me?
>>
>>719628703
It's supported until 2032, over six years of support still. By that time I might not even be playing vidya anymore, internet might no longer exist, desktops might be completely abandoned for new technology, or I could internally self combust out of thin air. Not really a problem to discuss now, it's something to worry about in 4-5 years. As of now though, rationally W10 IoT Ent LTSC 2021 solves all the issues I have with Windows 11, without any of the massive annoyances and drawbacks that alternative solutions like ChromeOS Flex, Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE, Arch, Gentoo etc offer. I just want a system that just werks and that lets me play GOG games and mod them without hassles, while avoiding any AI, ads, nagging from MS. Best thing is that MS has to support so many boomer companies so NT kernel has to be hyper compatible between W10/W11 causing everything to work still despite W10 coming out in 2015 and W11 24H2 being reworked in rust
>>
>>719627376
No they fucking dont. Its always a pain to to run games with the endless tinkering.
>>

you just add games to steam and enable proton
>>
My win8 laptop from 2013 finally can't play any games anymore (graphics card is shitting the bed, and steam somehow kept updating until it stopped working even though the client won't load). It's not worth it to keep dragging it along, so I'm upgrading to a tower. It comes with win11, but I'd definitely prefer to use Linux if I could.
I've had Debian on a dual boot for a long time, but I'm not super picky on distro. Do people actually use steamOS? I see a lot of mentions of Mint here too, which I liked when I tried it maybe fifteen years ago. Any others I should look into?
>>
>>719629467

I wonder what video game Brian is reading about?
>>
>>719629276
It's gotten better, it's just not there yet, I imagine During 2040-2050 Linux should be usable for at least singleplayer games from mainstream stores like Steam/GOG/Epic without much trouble. As of now, Lutris from Flathub can get all the dependancies and optimizations you need for vidya, and be a pretty just werksy experience at least for GOG games from my trying it out, it's not close to usable yet because of all video/audio artifacting issues, and most importantly case insensitive vs case sensitive trouble bricking many mods and amateur shit. But I'd say most of GOG and Steam games are nowadays playable on Linux. Just needs to cook for a few more decades, from my testing Cyberpunk werks great with RT disabled, VTMB werks great if enhanced audio thing from UP is disabled, KotOR works great beyond main menu being glitched.
>>
>>719628780
i don't use HDR so i can't comment on that

Nice, thanks, I'll check it out! Hope I can get a tiling WM in there without causing issues with the games. I'm guessing I might have to keep the Windows partition for Skyrim with all the mods, but we'll see.
It's been dizzying getting reacquainted with everything after being out of the loop for over ten years. I had to ask some friends about stuff like OLED monitors, because the technology didn't even exist last time I bought one, and I couldn't for the life of me tell what was actually important vs just gamer hype.

I actually had a similar issue where I couldn't install Windows 11 upgrade even though it was theoretically supported. I guess they really don't want you using Windows 11 on a computer that didn't already come with the latest version.
