Developing a video game is a fixed cost. There is no per-sale marginal cost. So if more people are going to buy it you can set the price lower and still break even. Most indie games will have fewer sales so they have to charge more for the same dev effort

The kickstarter unironically raised like 1/4 the production value of the game, and it doesnt change the fact they worked for 3 years without a salary (a single decent salary is less than the kickstarter btw (ari used to make 5x as much) ) and released it when they had practically no money left

Well. If I could project 10 million sales with confidence for my indie game. I too could sell it for like $10 or $15, or like in this case $20.
But if I can only expect like one to two thousand sales total. Then that'd mean I'd be pretty deep in the red if I sold my game for $10.

Hollow Knight grossed over 300 million dollars over its lifetime. Even if a big chunk of that is taken by steam, Nintendo, Xbox and all the rest, Team Cherry turned a 50k dollar investment of money that wasnt even theirs into a 6000% profit margin

It's 100% artstyle > graphical fidelity
They've got a workflow that gives them both high quality + rapid turnaround
This is partly because 2D is inherently simpler, but still

No Metroid or Castlevania was ever intended to take 40 fucking hours so I don't know why so-called Metroidvanias always need to be so long. Its not the same if you have say a group of 5 or 6 guys working on a game with no big support from microsoft or snoy or whatever and not big hype like silksong so their game wont sell close to the sales of silksong.
