>>719623465>What I don't get is why anyone gives a shit either way. We're living in times where people seek to optimise their gameplay in basically any way imaginable. Better mouse sensors, more responsive keys, macros, higher quality mousepads with much more space so they can use lower sensitivity and cut down on overshooting targets when they flick. Higher refresh rate monitors with higher resolution, better colors and contrast. All of these seemingly small things do add up to making you perform better in FPS games. If you had none of those things and you were using some $5 mouse with a piece of shit keyboard that can't even register more than 2 keys being pressed at a time on some 5 inch wide mousepad using 60hz in 2025 you're under some severe handicaps. Sure you might somehow have talent but you're fucking yourself by not investing in the hobby. You can't tell me there's a single perfomative hobby out there that doesn't involve investing money into better equipment.

>>719623913This is why I choose not to use numpad. I'm sitting there with my hand on my mouse. My left hand is already on the keyboard. >>719628965i've yet to meet someone who can actually touch type the number bar faster than the numpad. that's the real reason why they never went out of style for office settings where you're typing a lot of numbers into spreadsheets compared to gamer keyboards where they try to remove everything that isn't essential to their wasd dominate keyboard. i seriously recommend you go to a site that trains typing speed on numpad, you don't really feel how much easier and quicker it is until you're actually just doing it, then when you have to enter a long number or many numbers you'll just default to using the numpad because you know it's less hassle.
>>719630472>pic from 2016sameI don't even have a problem with it because I don't play any games where it matters, but people deserve to know. Especially since it's like twice as expensive now as it was then
>>719633001>i've yet to meet someone who can actually touch type the number bar faster than the numpadbecause every scenario where you're typing numbers will have you using a numpadno one is going to grind the number bar for the hell of it
I don't get the point, in what scenario will I be typing a lot of numbers but not need the () keys and therefore the number row
>>719633338Data entry. Aka, the reason keyboards exist.
Numpads are great for immersive sims with keypads since you can use the numpad to feel like you're actually typing the code on the keypad
>>719626560>when you place your right hand on the keyboard in a natural position do all your fingers fall on the middle row keys or do 2-3 of them go to the top row?Why would that matter? Sitting is already unhealthy as fuck, you fatty. The way you have your hands on your keyboard is already bad for your hand, it doesn't matter where you would put it.
>>719621120ahhhh the amount of games I've had buttons that are easily accessed and already hot keyed and mapped while my friends spend time rebinding keys since they don't have a numpad. All the space I could be saving I know oh my goddddddddddd so inconvenient.
>>719633069>Especially since it's like twice as expensive now as it was thenYeah, the one in my image is simply a 104 key Ultra Classic, I am using a New Model M now, and I paid $100-120 each. I had to double take the page I linked when people were complaingin about $200. Is that a Zenith on the left. HnnngAlso, you ever publicly share your music?

>>719621120Can someone explain me why this thing goes from 7 to 3 but phones go from 1 to 9?
>>719633904Keypads are designed to be used with every finger. Phones are designed to be used by thumb.
How do zoomers type signs like ™ ¼ 2 on their keyboards?
>>719633338i agree that the numpad should have more symbols, like an extra column to the left on the numbers for ( ) ^ _, then it'd be even more perfect.
>>719633904Hand motion: you use the ten-key typically from the bottom up and using all 5 fingers, whereas a phone is typically used with both thumbs from the sides. Now rotary dial was where it was at.

>>719623496>buy a $5 office keyboard>abuse the shit out of it>buy or steal another one from work and keep going Better than paying $90+ for some piece of shit controller that uses the same bargain bin components that every manufacturer pulls from.
pretty much every single mechanical keyboard without a numpad will be programmable and you can have that numpad back by just putting it on a layer that goes on your left hand keysthe more compact design actually results in less hand movement than on a full sized board
>had 1 job for 1 summer when I was 18 that involved taking payments so I got used to typing numbers on a numpadSorry you're some stupid fuck that can't use one of these. It's objectively way faster than using the row, which also requires 2 hands, or hunting and pecking.I also use the numpad for keybinds that are rarely used like "start recording video" or "spit on OP's sister" or whatever.
>>719621368I don't disagree but I hate this idea that it's only useful for work. Do some of you fucks just never type numbers or have a complex password that has a lot of numbers in it? Num pad is just too efficient. Also it's just super convenient to hotkey shit to. I also use an 1800 format keyboard so I don't have a navigation cluster anymore, but I still use Home and End a lot, so right shift + 7 or 1 is a godsend.

>>719636317I have no clue. I truly though the price was still around $100. lol I would still have my 2016 Ultra Classic if my dad hadn't destroyed it out of spite. The New Model Ms(I have one from July 2022) are even better, though. Less flex and the keys are more precise, so they definitely cleaned the tooling or something. My only guess is greed enabled by the covid excuse.

Something I never see people mention about the numpad is that once you figure out how to quickly switch between NumLock you can cancel out any need to use the number row OR the arrow keys. Hell, you can even rely on the numpad for navigating web pages.
