Why haven't you gotten a Steam Deck yet?
>>
>>719623371
Is Deck a full blown PC or is it limited in any way compared to a custom-built PC?
>>
>>719623371
Because I know I'd end up using it for 5 minutes, immediately think to myself "this is stupid", and walk 5 steps to my pc
>>
>>719623745
It's a full blown PC with a console-like frontend for convenience and instantaneous sleep/resume. Basically the best of both worlds.
>>
I got an OLED one second hand off ebay and it's genuinely one of the best gaming things ive bought. It help that i travel a lot on international flights so i get to use it, but even at home ive been using it more than the PC for gaming. For example, i started playing Wuchang on pc (pirated ofc) and at some point i said fuck it this would be much better with a controler so i moved the whole installation folder and save files to the deck and just carried on there.

I got the 1994 Jurassic Park arcade game working on it not too long ago. Figuring out which version of MAME could run it was kind of a pain, but its neat to be able to play it again.
>>
That frame generation whatever-the-fuck utility thing is like magic. The amount of games that I was hardware-locked out of on the Deck I can now run seamlessly at 60-90FPS,.

Madness.

I don't really need one. I don't really game on handhelds much anymore and I'd rather just use my PC.

I would like one and i can easily afford it but id rather wait until we get something closer to a switch lite in size even if it means less performance

RMA while it's still possible for you.
>>
>>719624791
Those are just Linux quirks. While every update fixes something it also breaks something else. The search function in my file browser stopped working a few months ago for example.
>>
Maybe when Steam Deck 2 comes out. Sounds comfy just to lay on my bed and play shitty indie games
>>
>>719624985
This is true, and I use Linux. Just about once a month I have to figure out why one of my basic functions has stopped working temporarily, having changed no configurations. Updates that are supposed to leave configs alone often don't and reset any minor tweaks I've done in programs, too. It's a constant battle when it comes to updating, but you get quicker with fixes once you've learned what's happening.
>>
>>719625147

>>
>>719624791
RMA. Highly doubt that's some random linux quirk, unless maybe you've been extensively using desktop mode to fiddle around with things. Never had anything like that and haven't heard anyone else have anything like that until your post.
>>
>>719626014
Yeah that basically sums up the Switch 2 fanbase. Imagine blowing 500 bucks just for Bananza and 60fps TOTK. Meanwhile it does 360p 20fps on AAA titles.
>>
>>719624038
Yeah. By far one of the best things about the deck is the support it gets from the community enabling black magic shit like this. Just a bit of software can basically make your deck feel like a deck 2.

Last Epoch
Playable. 30FPS at lowest setting, drops to 10-15 when shits happening
to
(2x boost) 90FPS at highest settings, with no artifacts (that I can see)

POE2
Same as above, but needs 4x boost, and slight blurring / pixelation around the character. Drops to 40FPS in grassy maps. Improved slightly by moiving game off SD card, not sure why but whatever

Far Cry 5
Just about 30FPS at lowest settings, looks like shite
to
>100 FPS, max settings, no artifacts whatsoever.

Haven't tried with anything else yet. I have death stranding and elden ring on here though so ill give them a whack at some point.

I have this but with analog stick. Cursor starts moving when I press the three dots button Happens after an update and goes away when I recalibrate dead zones.

Deck 2 is an absolute instant day 1 buy. Unless there's some crippling defect with the hardware itself, the games, support, features, etc. it comes with by default makes it a no brainer.

And it will still be nowhere near worth it as it becomes more and more obsolete hardware wise over time than it already is. If this was golden age nintendo, might be worth it, but it's modern nintendo, basically the equivalent of ea or the like. What they make now is just slop and they actively shit on their users.

>>
>>719628859
>it's modern nintendo, basically the equivalent of ea or the like
This. I wouldn't go as far to say that most of the new games are bad, but they fail to live up to expectations set by previous entries within each IP. Just a bunch of redundant games that deliver less content and are afraid to take risks.

>inb4 what about XYZ
Exceptions exist. Even companies like EA will put out something surprising every now and then. For example, I don't love the direction they took with Bananza, but I respect the risks taken and can appreciate why someone would enjoy the overall experience. Now compare that to the slop that is New Horizons or any modern Mario Sports title. Mario Party isn't much better. Splatoon is rehashing itself into just another terminally online grind fest (with a worse art direction).

Unless you're playing just to record clips, it's still gonna have the latency of the captured frames, aka it will feel like dogshit. What's the point of seeing 100fps on your screen if you're still getting 60ms of latency? Might as well use cloud streaming at that point and get longer lasting battery.

>>
>>719623371
I had one, but sold it after the game I bought it for (FFXIV) had a graphics update and no longer ran at 60 FPS.

I also didn't like the 16:10 aspect ratio.

I'm playing a lot of Warframe now, so I'm thinking about buying an OLED Steam Deck. (Original was the OG LCD version)
>>
>>719643008
I haven't felt any latency. inb4 the latency is there, I know but I ain't feeling it
guess it depends on the type of game being played.
Also it depends on what the scaling is, most games only need 2x so the latency is that of a 30-45fps game, which is fine.

The issue was so common the switch got a redesign of its insides. OLEDs and later models have different shoulder button designs for this reason.

I have to admit something. I don't mod my games. I'm fairly new to PC gaming (I have a laptop and a Deck), so I'm not all too familiar with how to mod games. From what I understand, I have to browse the game's local files and that's where I can put in the mods. But where exactly do I put in the mods? How do I troubleshoot if any issues arrive? How do I edit the files to create my own mods? These are questions I often ask myself, leaving me fearful of making any mistakes. Course, I know what the answer really is. Just do it. Break shit and learn from it. I just need to put the paddle to the metal and mod my games. That said, I also need to find a decent guide for modding games and find the right game to mod.

>Can I ask if there were any games in paticular you had in mind?
Due to their popularity in the mod scene, I'd like to try DOOM and Skyrim, the later I've never played before, but I understand that at this point, Skyrim requires mods. I was once interested in modding Borderlands 2, but that was before the whole Anti-cheat situation, so that's a bust Fuck you Randy Pokémon's another popular game for modding and I'm a fan of the GBA and DS era, so that's a good start. I also had an Action Replay, so it would be familiar with me. Finally, I have some game files that I want to try out. Transformers Fall of Cybertron, Devastation Internet Archive, as well as the original Fallout which I already ported to my 2DS.
>Also what're your gripes with ChatGPT? Is it privacy, or it's accuracy?
Mainly accuracy. I've used it for guides and it's either lead me through circles, the advice is far too broad, or it's inaccurate. Also, I admit, it still feels dirty to use it, even despite colleges giving up and letting students use it. As of now, I just use it as a quicker Google for synonym checks.

I have some bad news for you, going by Valve themselves, Fremont is just some experiment, some testing prototype they're working on, very early development compared to the Ibex, Deckard, Roy, Steam Deck 2, and Half-Life 3. Given that Valve said that the Steam Deck's dock is enough for a home TV experience, I wouldn't be surprised if this home console gets canned all together and Valve just makes a better dock for Deck 2 that's similar to functionality to that of the Switch 2's dock. Home consoles are a dead market.
