>>719632081Don't touch the handheld games. 1 and 2 are definitely "you had to have been there" types of games, but you may still be able to appreciate their magic. Origins and Legends are very good if you can get over the occasional Wii U legacy gimmick.

The only thing you could argue it's better would be the soundtrack, and that one is still a matter of personal taste because the jaguar soundtrack has a completely different style rather than being better or worse.

One of the things I really liked about Rayman 1's gameplay was how integrated the enemies were into the platforming. I haven't played that many sidescrollers, but the only area in Hollow Knight that sort of felt like it was Crystal Peaks, hope Silksong is better.
